Firepaw trailed after Harespring, his tail dragging in the leaves and grasses as they went. The last thing he wanted to do right now was hunt, but his mentor was insistent. If anything, he'd much rather scour the territory for traces of Hornetpaw but, if he couldn't do that, couldn't everyone at least let him sleep in the apprentice's den in peace? It seemed as though he was being dragged onto every patrol that was sent out and he was just...tired of it. All of it. If the ground broke open and swallowed him up, Firepaw would welcome it.

He stared at Harespring, yellow eyes narrowed, and couldn't help but resent the warrior for bringing him out and wasting his time with something so trivial. Every moment he spent not looking for his brother was a moment wasted. It didn't matter than Harespring was his clanmate, his mentor, or even that he'd lost kin too in the past few moons. Right now, he was just a cat getting in the way. Firepaw couldn't do much, but he could at least try to find Hornetpaw. He could at least protect what remained of his broken family.

Harespring knew that Firepaw wasnt doing the best, especially since his family disappeared. The pale tom could relate on some manner considering all of his siblings met their fate all around the same time. It was hard, but it was something they had to push through. They still had to help their clan, while continuing on their personal paths. [color:1d4c=dark orchid]"Alright we will keep this to a shorter patrol. Just a couple pieces of prey each and then we can go back."

Firepaw cut a scathing glare in Harespring's direction as he spoke and, without a word, followed his nose towards the nearest traces of prey-scent. Fine. If Hareapring truly wanted to waste his time with hunting, he'd get it over with as fast as possible so he could go back to doing what mattered - protecting his kin. Somebody else could hunt. They could scour the territory until their paws fell off for all he cared. He crept through the undergrowth, eager to be away from his mentor's gaze, and traced the scent trail to a small clearing where a plump squirrel was searching the leaf litter for food. Easy enough. It was hardly even paying attention.

Surely, if he caught his share, Harespring wouldn't mind if he split off and continued the search for his brother, right? With that thought in mind, Firepaw barely wasted time stalking the squirrel, his paws quick and quiet atop the forest floor. Perhaps too quick, though, for before he could even pounce, Firepaw clumsily stumbled over a hidden root and, faster than he could comprehend, the squirrel bolted straight up a tree. With a furious snarl, the black and red apprentice slashed his claws across the soft ground, sending a spray of both leaves and dirt into the air.
