The midday sun shone down upon him Cloudpaw. He made sure to find a nice, flat place to spar with soft grasses. "This will be our first spar, but don't stress about it! As long as you keep your claws to yourself, you'll do just fine. We're just going over the basics."
Spiderdance widened his stance and lowered his head, dropping into a defensive posture. His maw split into a playful, mysterious grin. While he would make sure his apprentice would get a good lesson out of this, he couldn't help but think of this as a fun game. "I think it's the most fun to learn as you go, so go ahead and try to land a hit. Do it any way you like, I'll give out tips as we spar." He wanted to see what actions naturally called to Cloudpaw first and work as he went.

Cloudpaw had been quick to follow her mentor out into the territory, eager to begin the day's training. Sparring practice would be fun, she thought, and Spiderdance seemed just as eager to begin as she was.
Claws sheathed, right. Something the queens had often warned the kits about too, but it made sense. She wasn't fighting an enemy... Not yet, anyways. She was here to impress, not to break rules or let overzealousness ruin the attempt to teach her sparring.
For a moment, the apprentice blinked at her mentor, sizing up the older tom carefully. He had the size and strength advantage, to be sure. That meant she would need to be strategic and not just rush in. He was probably expecting her to run at him, claw or bite maybe... Cloudpaw leaped instead, aiming to bring her mentor to ground like she might a rabbit. Maybe if she found a secure grip on his pelt, it would actually work.
Cloudpaw used Leap and Hold for -15 ep, dealing -4 damage. Spiderdance is pinned for one turn.

Spiderdance reader himself to dodge back, but he underestimated just how speedy a Windclan apprentice could be. She barreled into him, the tom tumbling onto the grass with his apprentice pinning him down. "Perfect start!" he praised. If this were a real fight, he would be a dangerous opponent for a young apprentice. She had the forethought to nullify some of that danger.
"However, you have to be careful not to let me out of your paws!" He twisted, aiming a light kick to the calico's hind leg in an attempt to knock her off balance. His strike managed to hit, giving Spiderdance just enough wiggle room to weasel out of her grip and get some good distance between them.
"Try to keep a cat pinned on their side or on their belly if you can. They can't kick you if their legs can't reach you!" He offered a bright grin.
Spiderdance used Duck and Twist for -10 EP, managing to break the pin and deal 7 damage!

Cloudpaw beamed under her mentor's praise... And so his kick caught the young she-cat off guard. "Foxdung." She grumbled, "My fault for letting you go so easily." The little calico added with a huff, swiping at her mentor with a sheathed paw. Still, she'd take his advice to heart. Next time she'd be more careful in how she tried that move.
