Moonkit tossed in her nest with Nectarflower to her back and her littermates surrounding her on every side. She grunted in annoyance at every stray paw or tail that caught her in her ribs or cheek and sat up, squinting against the bright light of the nearly full moon. Though she hadn't slept at all yet, it was still nice to cuddle with her family while they rested. However, the charm quickly wore off so, with a huff, she stepped carefully over her siblings, tail lifted so she didn't tickle their noses. It was too cramped in here for her to do much of anything.
There was this one spot in the camp, a rock or something Nectarflower had shown her a while back where she could see over the lip of the hollow and out onto the territory. It was nice to look out at the land like that when she couldn't sleep at night. Cautiously, Moonkit picked her way around the other kits and, just as she thought she was out, her paw landed on something soft, and dark. Flinching, the she-kit looked down and lifted her paw. It was a tail. With a wince, she looked up at the cat who's tail she'd stepped on and swiftly realized it was no kit.

Leopardpaw hadn't expected to be stepped on, especially when he had just returned from Moonhigh patrol. He was so tired, and had accidentally headed towards the nursery instead of the apprentice's den out of habit. He hadn't even reached the nursery when he felt small paws trampling all over his tail. Quickly, he yanked his tail upwards and out of reach for whatever menace was awake and about at this time of day... or night. The black apprentice blinked sleep out of his eyes as he tried to focus on the silvery thing at his paws that was looking up at him with horrified green eyes. Wha- was this a kit? One of Nectarflower's newest litter, he guessed. The kit certainly looked young enough to be from the new litter. What was she doing out of her nest at this time, though? Leopardpaw put on his sternest face and looked down at the kit. "I don't know what you think you're doing out here so late at night, but the Camp is no place for a kit to wander about without a warrior's supervision. What if a hawk were to swoop down and carry you away? No cat would know you had gone missing until morning came, and by then it'd already be too late."______________________________________ |

Moonkit stared up at Leopardpaw, mildly mortified, her ears slicked back against her head at the older tom's stern expression. He wasn't all that much older than her and her littermates but had swiftly graduated to the apprentice's den regardless. Hopefully, she'd be following his pawsteps in a moon or so, though. However, she wasn't a very big fan of his tone. Leopardpaw had always gotten on her nerves a bit - even as a kit - so she'd tried to avoid him when she could. So, composing herself, she narrowed her eyes at the black tom.
"i can't sleep." She meowed plainly. Leopardpaw was hardly a few moons older than her - she saw no reason to let him boss her around. Besides. hawks? Psh, they slept during the day...probably. If there was anything she needed to worry about, a hawk was hardly one of them. If he was going to try to scare her, he'd have to do better than that. Regardless, the threat gave her pause. "and you worry too much. besides, what if you kept me safe? i'm sure you could do it." She insisted, playing into his ego. "i just wanted to look 'round anyway - i wasn't even gonna leave the camp." She was just bored and couldn't sleep.

Leopardpaw scoffed at the kit's suggestion, his tail flicking crossly. Who did she think he was? "I'm no where near capable of taking on a hawk all by myself-- meaning of a hawk did descent upon you, I would be of no use," He pointed out plainly, "Besides, even if I just leave you alone and go to bed, don't you think if you're missing when the Clan wakes up I'll be the one getting into trouble?" But Moonkit seemed determined to tumble about the camp, as if that was meant to help with her inability to sleep. "Whatever. If you're not going to bed-- and I most definetly will not be able to make you-- I'm staying here until you do. I have a responsibility, you know, to make sure no harm befalls any of my clanmates... and unfortunately you're part of the bunch, kit."______________________________________ |

Moonkit flicked her tail crossly at Leopardpaw's fussing silently wondered why a more fun apprentice couldn't have spotted her. She wasn't sure which apprentice would've made for a more interesting night, but surely any of the others would've been better? Though, she could make this work too. At least Leopardpaw wouldn't be up her tail. From the sound of it, he'd just been keeping an eye on her...from a distance. "okay!" She meowed eventually. And, with a longing glance towards the far edge of the camp, began to shift away. "i'm just gonna go over here then..." She wasn't gonna do anything bad! Just climb atop that great, flat rock and take a peek over the lip of the hollow! What was the worst that could happen, anyway? It was just some sight-seeing.

Leopardpaw bit back a hiss of frustration as he watched the kit immediately head for the edge of Camp. What was he thinking, saying he'd stay here and watch her? He was tired from a long day of patrols, and would be up early again tomorrow for more lessons. He couldn't afford to be late, or even worse, fall ill and have to skip several days of training. But someone had to watch Moonkit, and there was clearly no one else around but him. So he had no choice but to stay here.
With a grumble, he trailed after the silvery she-cat. With ease, thanks to his long legs, he hopped onto the rock, sitting down beside Moonkit with his tail wrapped around his paws. From here, the vast moor was hidden in shadow, with nothing but outlines to indicate that there was something there. What did Moonkit even want to look at? The blackness?
Leopardpaw tipped his head back, gaze instead fixing on the sky. The sky was cloudy tonight, and most of the night sky was covered in wispy stuff, but here and there he could spot a star or two blinking down at him. That's right, StarClan was watching. Unwrapping his tail from his paws, he stood up and looked down at Moonkit. He easily towered over her, mostly because of his height and his early growth spurt. "Come on. If you're not going to sleep, there's no point gwaking around camp. I promise, it's no different from the day Camp, except now you can't see a tail-length ahead of you. What do you want to do? I'll see what I can do."

Moonkit glanced at Leopardpaw from the corner of her eye, expression flat as he settled down beside her. What did he have over her and the other kits in the nursery, anyway? What made him so much better than he was made an apprentice sooner? They were basically the same age and yet he still treated her like a kit in their first moon - it was infuriating, really. He must have thought himself so special when Tigerstar made him an apprentice first and why not? After all, it must be great fun to boss around all of the kits still in the nursery.
After several long moments of, frankly, awkward silence between them, Leopardpaw stood up, forcing Moonkit to crane her head to look at him. One brow raised quizzically, she listened as he spoke, certain that he'd be sending her back to her nest. However, that wasn't the case. Somewhat shocked but not wanting to let the chance pass her by, Moonkit hauled herself to her paws and peered out into the heavy darkness surrounding the camp. What did she want to do?
What would Leopardpaw even let her do? He seemed stricter than most apprentices his age, but maybe she could get away with a little adventure outside of this sheltered hollow. "take me outta the camp." She meowed firmly, the words less of a question and more of a suggestion. He'd offered and now, she wasn't going to take no for an answer. "doesn't hav'ta be far, but since ya offered...might as well make it somethin' fun."

Of course Moonkit wanted to go out of Camp. Leopardpaw's ears flattened; why couldn't kits just listen to the rules? He never broke or tried to break any rules when he was a kit. He had understood the dangers outside of Camp, and the reason for each rule, and he was sure that most kits did not lack the intelligence to understand it either. No, they simply chose not to.
Still, he had said he would, and no one was here to watch him break the rules. Leopardpaw looked up at the stars, mouthing a silent "sorry" to his warrior ancestors that were watching him do something so mousebrained, before turning back to Moonkit. "Come on then," He said simply before hopping down from the rock to land on all fours below. He waited for the kit to descend as well, before heading straight for the Camp entrance. "Don't go too far, and don't go out of my sight... I'm serious about this. Don't do it." He had a feeling she would anyway, so, just in case, he took an additional step closer to the tabby she-cat.

Moonkit didn't dare speak or even so much as breath as Leopardpaw seemed to contemplate her request. Actually, it looked more as though he was having a heated debate in his head over whether or not to eat a particularly plump mouse. That mental image alone nearly made Moonkit lose focus but, like the well-mannered kit she was, she managed not to chortle or even giggle a little. Finally, the apprentice came to a conclusion and looked down at her, defeated. Acquiescence! Yes! He was going to take her out of the camp! She'd have to tell Falconkit.
On the outside, though, Moonkit tried to school her expression into a placid smile as she slithered off of the rock and padded calmly after Leopardpaw. Heh. She could just imagine him gorging himself on that imaginary mouse right now. "i won't." She meowed instantly. It seemed like a hollow promise, but she meant it. She honestly just wanted to get a better view of the moor. Then, as he led the way to the camp entrance, "d'ya do this often? sneak kits out?"

Leopardpaw's pelt prickled nervously as he exited the Camp entrance, Moonkit right behind him. He stopped three fox-lengths away from the entrance, beckoning for the tabby to stop as well. This really was as far out as he was willing to take her-- as he could take her. Oh Stars, he was going to be in so much trouble if anyone woke up right now. And, even worse, a hawk could swoop down any moment to snatch the kit away. Nervously, his gaze darted up to the night sky, searching for signs of a moving shadow... darn it, it was all covered by the clouds.
His search was interrupted by Moonkit's question. Instantly, his attention snapped down to the kit, the beginnings of a flustered look showing. "No- of course not! I didn't even think of exiting Camp when I was a kit, why would I help other kits do it?" Ah- but here he was, several steps away from Camp, talking to a kit he had practically snuck out of the Camp walls. He let out a groan, then flicked his tail to gesture to the dark moor. "Take it all in, kit, and once you're done we're heading right back and you're going to go to sleep, understood?"

A flash of excitement warmed Moonkit's chest and she followed obediently after Leopardwind, her still-short tail flicking back and forth. She was just like Falconkit! He said he'd snuck out of the camp once? Well, this was her second time sneaking out! Or, well, kinda. She flicked a glance up at Leopardwind and frowned. Did it really count if she had a warrior escort with her? Probably. Oblivious to the potential danger for a smaller cat like her, Moonkit pranced after Leopardwind, for once not feeling annoyed by his presence. He was...pretty cool when he wanted to be! She grinned playfully at his nervous stammering and flicked her ear, whiskers twitching.
"oh, relax, will ya? i was just teasin' ya." An amused purr rumbled from her chest, but she eventually let it go and cast her gaze out, following the movement of Leopardwind's tail. It was pretty dark out. How was she supposed to see anything? As Moonkit squinted, a breeze picked up, scattering the clouds for a brief moment and bathing the moor in a silvery glow. "oh..." The word escaped her jaws breathily as she stared at the vast expanse of land before them. Just as quickly as it came, the burst of moonlight vanished again, the sky once more shrouded in dark clouds. Suddenly, becoming an apprentice didn't seem so bad.
Not if it meant she got to go out and see this every day. Paws itching, Moonkit tugged on Leopardwind's coat. "okay, c'mon, let's go back!" Her entire body practically vibrated with energy. She, who was usually too tired to lift a paw if she didn't have to, wanted nothing more than to race through those silver fields and feel the wind in her fur. Maybe, if she went straight to sleep, come morning, it'd finally be time for her apprentice ceremony?
