When Perchstar set out to take a walk on her own, as she so often did, there hadn't been any fixed destination in her mind. It was not uncommon for her to spend a few minutes of her leisure time taking in the warmth of newleaf and the gorgeous scenery of RiverClan territory. Small brooks and puddles; the copse of beech trees that had once been her haven; a dip in the cool river. Any of those would have been standard and provided a brief moment of comfort before she returned to her duties. However, her paws led her in a direction she hadn't been for moons upon moons... one she hadn't planned to tread ever again. She stopped, surprised, when her mind cleared and she could finally see the scenery in front of her. The dilapidated old Twolegplace farm. Empty and abandoned. Long grasses trodden down by large animals, the distant sounds of which informed her of their faraway presence. She hadn't been here since... since...
But by the looks of it, he had moved on. Any trace of his particular scent had long since vanished. No one had been here in some time. It was, well and truly, abandoned. Still she stepped forward hesitantly. Once, twice. Nothing of value was here. A few herbs she did not know how to identify. Some mice squeaking in the furthest reaches of the mildewing structure. Neither of these were worth her time. Still, for reasons she could not quite understand, the white and gray she-cat lowered herself back down into a sitting position. What was the strange feeling that stirred inside her? Not nostalgia, nor quite longing either. Not sorrow. Not a positive or negative emotion.
She had not loved him--that she knew with a certainty. Having experienced love, its echoes were not what drew her here. Not love, but... something else, perhaps. The sheer magnetism of being wanted. The undeniable allure of a life free from her responsibilities... a life in which Mistwalker would not have been maimed, in which Tinyshadow would not have disappeared. In which she could have had a family whole and untainted by life's difficulties.
An impossible dream. No life was free of hardship. She'd learned that all too well.
So what, then? What led her here in this twilight of her life? Some untenable sense of the end of it all? A call from far away... from wherever he was? Perhaps he was thinking of her, in this moment, and their unconscious connection of shared progeny had drawn her unknowingly so far from camp. She ought to turn around and leave now. Go back to her camp, to her responsibilities... to her kits, whom she loved more than she'd ever have known possible. But instead Perchstar sat. She remained here, staring out into the nothingness, into the emptiness where a dark tom had once stood to meet his kits for the final time. Where she'd refused the offer lying unspoken behind those golden eyes. She sat for a moment and felt the strange tugging on her heartstrings.

WILLOWWISP
A constant uphill run...
Willowwisp noticed her mother slip out of camp. Normally, she would pay it no mind; her mother was the leader, allowed to do as she pleased, after all. However, given her mother’s state as of late, she felt a need to go after her. She did not fear that her mother would try anything dangerous, but she did worry that her mother would go out and get so far lost in her own thoughts that she would come back even more depressed than she had been.
Willowwisp followed carefully, tailing back. She did not want her mother to notice her and scold her, but the longer it went on, the more nervous she was about her mother being more furious with her that she had followed all this way. The quiet worry didn’t quite stop Willowwisp, however, and she continued on until her mother found whatever place she was looking for.
Her ears perked up. This old place…Willowwisp had only seen it once when the family trekked to meet her father for the first time. She glanced around, expecting the dark tom to pop out of the shadows and greet his mother, like this was a ritual for them somehow—but none of that occurred. The place was empty, hauntingly so. When she looked at the sliver of her mother’s face she could see from this angle, she realized with a bit of a startling realization that she couldn’t quite read it. Willowwisp was fairly good at reading others’ emotions and expressions and she prided herself in being able to read her mother when most cats claimed they could not, but now, she finally knew what that kind of lost feeling was.
She hesitated a minute longer before she finally stepped forward. “…Mother?” she murmured. Her expression remained steady as she looked at her mother, but quiet unease chewed in her stomach. “What brought you all the way out here?” She glanced again, expecting to see…something. Someone. “Were you trying to see Father?”
