https://warriorclancats.forumotion.com/t50688-testing-of-the-metal#544929Swiftheart had just finished the test that she had been meaning to take for so long. It had taken her awhile but she finally had done it. She had finally completed Nightstars challenge. To find and kill a predator and to take its pelt. The rusty pelt of the fox hunt over her shoulders partly covering over the scar she had received from it. Nothing too terrible luckily.
She wore it for a couple days taking good care of it making sure not to muddy it up in the swamp or anything like that.
As the Sun set and the clan began to awaken for another night she found herself going over to visit her brother. She purred softly seeing him just outside his den. She took her fox pelt with her draped over her.
“Hey you!” She meowed giving him a friendly and gentle knock on the shoulder.
She had been wanting to talk with him for awhile but the times were just so busy now for both of them. Night leading the whole clan and herself being a full time warrior. She wanted to check in on him make sure he was okay after… after the whole redice thing. The weird singing that redice had done the whole way to his execution still rung in her ears from time to time. She couldn’t imagine what he had to go through. Redice was a menace and nightstar had done the right thing in making sure that redice would not hurt anyone else… but still this was a clanmate. Someone who shared their blood and was raised in the same place both of them had been.
She wanted him to know she was there for him and always would be… but he already knew that, she had told him that over and over. So rather than telling him, she wanted to show him as well that she was ready to be there for him too. Both in the way she acted and hopefully as well, the subtle passing of her test and defeating the fox. A predator that he knew she was scared of... or rather that she USED to be scared of.
“You doing okay?” She asked quietly glancing at him. It took a lot of willpower not to keep driving the conversation, she was usually so talkative and energetic and she had to keep telling herself not to keep talking and talking or he wouldn’t even get a chance to speak.
Swiftheart was, growing up now. She was learning that at times she had to be more quiet and let there be silence places. Let him think about it for a little before jumping on to the next 20 things she wanted to talk about or tell him the latest that she was up to or the stories around camp that were happening.
Just like she at one point in time would have been terrified of the fox that now hung around her shoulders that too was now changing. That fear wasn’t there anymore as she got more confident in her abilities and could see what she was able to do. When rat herself and night had all been nearly killed by the foxes it had left her scared of them for so so long. But after this test of hers she mastered that fear and conquered it.
She had never felt such confidence. It was a positive confidence though, nothing boastful. It was a pure and good type that was just knowing what she could do.
And while she would always be nightstar's little sister, and she would never mind him being the protective brother that he usually was. She also wanted to show that she could take care of herself too. Not in that she wanted to push him away at all. Quite the opposite, she didn’t want him to worry about her AND she wanted to show him that she could be there for him too now. That she could handle things thrown at them and their clan. If anything, she wanted this to improve their already strong relationship. They had always been rock solid together, perhaps some of the closest siblings in the whole forest. And as she got stronger and more mature that would only strengthen what was already the most deep and strong of foundations.
She waited a long while just sharing his company of them both being there. It felt so weird to her to have so much silence but she allowed it just staying still too… which was also hard the urge to tap her foot or flick her tail around at him was strong, very strong but she didn’t.
Eventually, after plenty of time for him to answer her first question she asked quietly.
“Do you wanna talk about it? I’m here if you want to. But I understand if you don’t want to either”He had to take so much weight, leading the clan through all the twoleg mess… get hit by a literal tree then a monster… and then dog attacks and then killing redice. She felt so bad that he seemed to always carry so much.
She stayed quiet wondering what he would say to that… if he would say anything.
She let the fox pelt slide off her shoulders and in front of him.
“I completed the test. You can keep the pelt if you want it. It’s my gift to you, unless you would rather not have it?” She offered to him. If war time ever came she could always wear it into battle, but if he wanted it for his den till such times he was welcome to have it.
