Subject: Orchidpaw's Moonstone Journey Wed 27 Mar 2024 - 13:48
The journey was (thankfully) uneventful with medicine cat and apprentice arriving at the gaping entrance that was Mothermouth. Orchidpaw as an apprentice wasn't nearly as worrisome as she had been as a kit; no poison in sight for the black and white she-cat to try and collect for Heatherberry, as good as her intentions had been. "There is only one tunnel that leads to the moonstone, so stick close to me and don't wander."
The tunnels squeezed against her broad, greying shoulders as she led the way forward within the twisting labyrinth that was Highstones until the light that glimmered off the large stone that sat in the center of the cave came into view. As always, Heatherberry found the need to sit away from it during these trips, finding no reason to be near the stone that almost always brought pain and suffering. "Find a comfortable position and touch your nose to the stone. StarClan will greet you as you dream, and I will be here when you wake."
Orchidpaw felt like she was walking on unstable marshes when she was in Heatherberry's presence. Every day since the she-cat snapped at her in kit hood - was a day that she didn't understand why Heatherberry did what she did. As a result, Orchidpaw was extremely distant and quiet during their journey.
As they entered Mothermouth, she felt beyond uncomfortable. Her heart thumped steadily in her chest as she followed the medicine cat through the tunnel. As they approached the chamber containing the Moonstone, Orchidpaw's pace slowed - admiration sparkling in her gaze. It shimmered with a soft, otherwordly light. She looked at Heatherberry, who was reluctant to draw near the stone, with a confused expression - but she didn't dare to question her. Instead, she settled into a comfortable position as instructed.
With a shaky breath, she touched her nose to the cool surface of the Moonstone and closed her eyes. She could almost feel a tingling sensation spread throughout her body, but she couldn't tell if it was her imagination.
Regardless, she surrendered to rest and the world around her faded to beautiful lands. She felt a weird connection - greater than herself. She scanned the sparkling landscape, mumbling a soft "Hello?"
As Orchidpaw shimmered into view before Hazeflight, they briefly wondered why StarClan had such an affinity for her as of recent. Hopefully it was not an omen for ShadowClan, they did not need more cats like her, and she would do her best to prevent that. A gentle guide for the young cats that came to her. "Orchidpaw," she purred, joining the fluffy molly. "Welcome to StarClan." When she'd be chosen in the past, she had thought StarClan had been torturing her, forcing her to relive her mistakes over and over, now she thought of it more as a gift. She had never been the mother she'd wanted to be, but now she was given the chance to guide these young cats how she wished had guided her own children. Her tail brushed gently against Orchidpaw. "I'm Hazeflight, a warrior of ShadowClan." Icy blue eyes sparkled "And I was also Larkshine's moonstone cat. I'm very proud of her, she's done an amazing job mentoring you. Do you have anything you'd like to ask me? I will do my best to answer all your questions." she chuckled, remembering the barrage of questions the young Larkshine had hit her with.
