The sun hung high in the sky as Myrtlebloom walked into camp. She had gone out hunting, but it was unsuccessful. She sat down on a rock and started grooming herself, when a movement from the nursery den caught her attention. It was a little kit making its way out of the den mouth. Myrtlebloom laid down on her rock and watched the young kit, her tail flicking in amusement.
She wasn’t sure where the mother of the kit was, but Myrtlebloom was aware kits could sneak away. Her mind drifted back to when she and Yewshade had snuck out of the nursery and played with a moss ball without Paledove noticing. Firekit was fast asleep with the rest of his siblings, taking a nice sunhigh nap, and Blazekit was horrifically bored. He was always so bored when Firekit wasn't around, or didn't want to play - sure, there were other kits in the nursery, but none of them were quite as fun or clever as Firekit was. Blazekit blinked softly against the sunlight as he stepped out of the den, his best friend on his mind. A small sigh escaped his lips - much too big a sigh for such a small cat. What in StarClan am I supposed to do? He didn't understand why he couldn't just be an apprentice already. They seemed to have so much more fun - he loathed being cooped up inside camp all the time.
Inside camp.Wait. The kit had an idea. He perked up, his amber eyes practically glowing as he glanced around camp. Nobody was watching that he could see... did he dare to sneak out? And without Firekit? He didn't even notice the molly watching him from her place on the rock - he was so caught up in the prospect of sneaking out. Tail waving with excitement, Blazekit nonchalantly made his way toward the camp's boundaries, pretending to be aimlessly wandering.
A flicker of amusement crossed Myrtlebloom’s face as the young kit scanned the camp for any prying eye before attempting to escape. She stood up and quietly stalked after the little explorer. She made sure to stay quiet and watch where she stepped as to not alert the kit.
As the little one reached the boundary of camp, Myrtlebloom stepped over and sat down in front of Blazekit. She started grooming her front paw and then looked down at the kit. “You can’t go out there.” She mewed softly before grabbing the young tom by the scruff and taking him back in front of the nursery. She turned away, flicking her tail at the kit.
A few moments passed and she returned with a mouthful of moss and feathers she had collected for the warrior den nests. She figured nobody would notice and clearly this kit needed something to keep its mind busy. She swatted a moss ball at the kit. “Here are some things to keep you busy!” Myrtlebloom purred as she laid down by the kit.
