The air was cold, but not as terribly cutting as it had been, the warm, if weak, sunshine providing some relief to the chill in the air. Stormdance was still feeling the effects of everything that had occurred in the past few months. The sickness that had made all of the moons of travel all but a blur, keeping him reliant on his clanmates and friends as he struggled simply to put one paw in front of the other; Rowansong’s horrible injuries on the way back, and his recovery since; and then on a clan-wide level, the war with Skyclan that had resulted in so much fear and devastation. At the least, Stormdance was back on his feet, and while he was nowhere near foolish enough to believe that everything was over, there was a delicate sort of peace again.
That anxiety might linger in his chest, but Stormdance had long since learned how to live with such things, and he still had responsibilities, regardless of any of his personal grief. Poor Snailpaw’s training had been neglected for far too long with everything going on, and so Stormdance has renewed his efforts since he got better to dedicate his time to his apprentice. Finding a comfortable sandy hollow in the area he preferred to practice sparring,Stormdance looked back at Snailpaw with soft eyes. “Ready to get started?” He asked.
He walked forward a few more pawsteps and turned back to his apprentice, tensing in preparation for the spar, but not moving forward just yet. “I’ll let you make the first move,” He said with a little dip of his head. “I want to see how you would begin against an opponent.”

Newleaf, what a wonderful time of year. Snailpaw particularly enjoyed the sun shining down onto his back, a sliver of warmth in the cool air. A welcome signifier that Leafbare was finally leaving the clans behind. Finally.. He shuddered at the thought of that Leafbare, the bitter tang of his own blood in his mouth was something he swore he could still taste sometimes..
But, there's better things to think about right now. He's getting his first training session in moons, and he's not gonna wallow in the bad stuff when he has better things to do.
He looked up at Stormdance when they arrived at the hollow, and nodded in response. "Ready as I can be."
Snailpaw got to go first, which was.. nerve-wracking, to say the least. But he needed to learn somehow, he supposed.. And after some quick thought, he made up his mind.
He shook out some leftover anxiety over the choice, and he quickly bit at Stormdance's leg.
Snailpaw used Snap, dealing 6 damage and costing 7 SP.

Stormdance watched the anxiety play briefly across Snailpaw’s face, and he smiled slightly in sympathy. His apprentice days were long behind him, but he was so often paralyzed by indecision in those days. Owlshriek had thankfully been patient with him, and Snailpaw is quick to reach a decision and dart forward.
“Good job,” Stormdance rumbled as he twisted back from Snailpaw’s snapping teeth. He moved quickly in response, darting forward to land a sheathed blow on Snailpaw’s side. “Now, I’m an opponent who’s stronger and has more experience than you do. What can you do to gain the upper paw?” He mewed encouragingly.
Stormdance used Front Paw Blow, dealing -7 damage and costing -5 SP.
He exhaled sharply as Stormdance hit his side, causing Snailpaw to stumble slightly to one side. Stormdance is certainly a strong cat, which Snailpaw can appreciate in the future. Certainly not while he's trying to win the fight, but definitely in the future.
Speaking of, Stormdance had asked Snailpaw quite the question for a cat who's new to this whole thing. How would he get the upper hand like this? If his opponent is stronger than him, how could he turn the fight around? What choice could he choose that gives him the best chance of winning?
Well, if he's weaker than his attacker, or the cat he's attacking, he'd probably need to fight more. Or, make his opponent fight less. Now, that's something he thinks he could do..
Snailpaw gets himself together, adjusts his footing, then dashes past Stormdance. Making a swift swerve when he reaches the other side. Then, he bites down on Stormdance's tail, giving it as strong of a pull as he can. That should give Snailpaw some semblance of help in the fight.
Snailpaw used Tail Yank, dealing 7 damage, costing 15 SP, and stunning Stormdance.
