SkyClan Nursery Duty [03-2024]

Myrtlebloom had volunteered when Honeydew asked around to begin nursery duties. She accompanied her friend towards the nursesry, memories flooding her mind of the days back at the Southern Lake when she used to visit the nursery frequently and play with Paledove's kits. She had often helped care for the prickly queen by fetching fresh moss and bringing her freshkill. They were some of the deputy's fondest memories. And now, Myrtlebloom was beside her - one of Paledove's own kits, repeating the cycle of caring for the clan's queens and kits - the future of SkyClan.

Honeydew was eager to meet more of Mintglade's kits. Flamekit had quite the personality, and she could see that he would become a strong warrior one day. With enough patience, affection, and guidance, all of these kits would hopefully help lead SkyClan down a more peaceful path. That is why Honeydew began regular nursery duty. Kits should be exposed to the many different personalities of SkyClan, she had thought. They will be able to decide for themselves what kind of cat they would like to take after.

Shaking her head to clear it, Honeydew glanced at her friend.
"We've already brought the queens plenty of fresh bedding for their nests. Why don't be visit with them for a while, and maybe play with some of the kits?" she suggested, her tone open. Despite being deputy, Honeydew loved to get her clanmates' feedback on things, allowing them to take the lead in some situations to inspire confidence in them - something Honeydew considered her dear friend Myrtlebloom could definitely use.

"What do you think?" she asked, her head tilting.

Myrtlebloom was happy to take on nursery duties and spend time socializing with the kits. She wasn’t terribly keen on socializing with the queen though. Then again, neither did Paledove. She couldn’t help but think about her mother when she was near the nursery. Most of her memories of her mother were in a nursery den and they seemed clearer than ever, as she went about her duties.

Her thoughts were interrupted by Honeydew’s voice. “Oh, uh yeah that’s probably a good idea.” Myrtlebloom mewed back softly with a smile. She was happy Honeydew was here with her. She knew Honeydew enjoyed the nursery den as well, and she wondered if the young deputy’s thought also drifted to her own mother. ‘Never mind those thoughts, we’re here to socialize with the living queens, not to dwell on the deceased.’ She thought as she stood to her feet and stepped into the den. “You have cousins that are kits, right?” Myrtlebloom mewed looking back at Honeydew.

"I do," Honeydew replied, "though I must admit I haven't had much of a chance to meet many of them yet." Honeydew lowered her head to the den entrance, peering inside. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness, she mewed, "They're Sunfire's kits, and Sunfire is my uncle." Into the nursery, she softly called, "Is anyone awake in there?" She cast a glance back at Myrtlebloom. "We're coming in!" she announced in a hushed voice, before crawling her way through the small entrance, into the gloom. "Kits?"
