Subject: Still Standing [Rainfrost] Thu 14 Mar 2024 - 9:50
The days between the battle and her own ceremony had been a bit of a blur, in truth. Wolfstar had managed to pull herself together enough, or at least to keep up the appearance of such for her clanmates and family. She sat near the edge of camp, a silent observer as she rested after a patrol. Some of her clanmates had hardly began to recover from the battle, much less the shock of change within the clan. Life did not wait for them to mourn, though. Ceremonies were still had, patrols were kept up with... And Wolfstar knew that burying emotion to focus on what needed to be done would only strangle them.
A familiar tabby and white pelt caught her gaze from across camp, and the leader stood, making her way toward the tom. Too wrapped up in her own emotions, she hadn't yet spoken with Rainfrost, though she knew that he also was hit hard by her sister's death. Birdstar had been his mother in the ways that mattered... And Wolfstar cared for him too, though hadn't been nearly as close with him. The thought made her chest feel tight. Family... She should have spent more time with all of them.
"Hey, Rainfrost." She offered the fluffy warrior a smile, though a mix of grief and weariness shadowed her gaze despite efforts to hide it. "Mind if I join you?"

Rainfrost
Skyclan Camp
When not directly tasked with a patrol or occupied with a clanmate, Rainfrost simply…drifted, often losing track of time and forgetting what he was doing or where he was going. He’s pretty sure he’d forget to eat if it weren’t for Crookedlight reminding him. Rainfrost thought he knew grief and what it felt like but losing Birdstar… Rainfrost didn’t know what to do with himself anymore. She’d always been there.
He was trying to sort through his fuzzy thoughts enough to find a task, when a voice caught his attention. Lifting his head, he found Wolfblossom- no, Wolfstar now. That was still a difficult adjustment to make. Her tired smile reflected his own grief, and Rainfrost felt a pang. He knew what it was to lose a sister. Wolfstar had so much on her shoulders now on top of her grief; he wished he could do more.
“Hi auntie,” He greeted softly, moving immediately to settle down more comfortably so the two of them could sit together. “Of course not.” Rainfrost could not quite muster a smile, but he blinked slowly at her to convey the same emotion. “How are you?” He asked softly once she’d settled, the question running deeper than simple pleasantries.

Rainfrost's slow blink seemed to convey many of the same emotions swirling in her chest, and when he shifted into a more comfortable position Wolfstar sat beside him. Auntie... It had been a while, she reflected. She would do better, for the family she had left.
"I'm... I'll be alright." She mewed softly, "Everything's been... A lot. I never thought..." Wolfstar shook her head. "Even being deputy I didn't expect I would be leading Skyclan. Not for a while."
