go the distance [herb hunt]

Thymelight was in a pleasant mood that morning. Being back home and in the presence of the familiar meant that the medicine den no longer had to worry about the herb shortage, but it also meant that they had to work harder now to get their stash back up to a decent size. She had considered going out to look for herbs alone just to have time with her thoughts and to reflect on what the past few moons had brought her, both good and bad, but she had brought together a few other cats to form a patrol mainly for safety reasons. She supposed that the company would also be nice. She enjoyed getting to spend quality time with her Clanmates, even if it was during a patrol.

"Alright, everyone," She began once they had made it a fair distance away from camp, "thank you so much for agreeing to come with me! I know you all could've been doing something a bit more interesting, so I appreciate it very much. I promise not to take up too much of your time. If you find something that looks useful but you don't know what it is, you can just ask me."

The medicine cat glanced to the side when the sight of bright red berries caught her eye. She frowned with disdain as she flicked her tail toward the holly berries and spoke to her patrol, "And if you see any bright red berries... just don't eat them, please."

2-3: common herb (borage, ragweed, cobweb, lamb's ear)
4-5: uncommon herb (tansy, bindweed, chickweed)
6: rare herb (coltsfoot, fennel)

Thymelight purred and blinked gratefully at Honeypaw's words as the apprentice padded past her. She appreciated any form of help she could receive from any of her Clanmates, but Honeypaw in particular seemed to always be ready to assist her and the other medicine cats. She was a kind and soft-spoken cat, and Thymelight had the feeling that she would've made a wonderful medicine cat if fate had been different. Shatteredsky's voice pulled her out of her thoughts, but it was a welcomed surprise. She was ecstatic to hear that her patrol was already finding herbs. The she-cat padded over and ducked her head slightly to examine the flowers that the tom had found.

She looked back up at the warrior an encouraging smile, "Good eye, Shatteredsky! That's coltsfoot and it's very useful for coughs and sore pads. Take some with us and be on the look out for more."
She hoped that she didn't sound too commanding as she padded away once Honeypaw called her over. She wasn't exactly the "leadership" type, but she also enjoyed telling her Clanmates about herbs and their uses. When she reached the apprentice's side, Thymelight carefully glanced at the plant before giving a nod of approval.
"That's fennel. Take some with us, it helps cats with pain in their joints. Great job, Honeypaw." She mewed softly before heading off to find an herb of her own.

Fortunately, there was some more fennel near where Honeypaw had found her own. She was rather pleased with how the patrol's progress was going so far and couldn't help but smile to herself as she picked some of the feathery green plants.
