Leap of freedom! (O)

Hazel trodded towards the fence, and with all her might, she leaped across it. Unfortunately, her body got stuck halfway, but she pushed her paws and tumbled on the snow-filled forest floor. She mumbled, confused with these unfamiliar surroundings, "I made it!" She meowed joyfully. At last, Hazel had escaped the confinements of her twoleg nest, and now she had a chance to explore the world and the forest beyond her house. She could taste the bitter air; she had to leave all the kittypet slop and warmth and head off to start anew.

She peered through the branches to see bits of sunshine streaming through. Everything looked different from her house; there was no shelter. Even when she shivered, she ignored it to try and show her strength. She smiled, proud of her accomplishment, but she had to test if she could hunt. She didn’t have such a keen eye, but she found a mouse scurrying past the small twigs and branches that had fallen from trees. She slowly lowered herself and, in a wonky hunting crouch, approached the mouse, determined to catch it. Suddenly, an owl swooped from above and clawed her with its sharp talons. She screeched before stepping back and struck it, though still not strong. She believed in herself.

Grub was everywhere all of the time, his newest place to hang out being the neighborhood right next to ThunderClan territory. Yellow eyes passively watched a plump and pristine housecat scramble up the fence that split human from forest cat, not thinking much of it as he watched an owl swoop down from the trees in the direction she had landed. His mottled tail twitched once, the thought of Well, what can you do? crossing his mind. It wasn't his problem to deal with.

Irritatingly, his one available ear caught the unmistakable sound of Ajex's voice. It really did suck to care about that kid, as much as he'd already proven to be able to handle things like this himself. A sigh as Grub bounded over to the fence, scaling it's warped wood with ease and landing with a thud on the other side.

With the Owl already stunned, Grub used this opportunity to slash at any vulnerable part left exposed as it regained itself... Only to have misjudged the distance. Unable to skid to a halt in time in the slick ground, the alley cat slid right past the Owl and into a nearby tree.

Grub unsuccessfully used Belly Rake. Took 5 damage and used 25 SP.

Her eyes flicked between the two cats who jumped out of who knew where to help her. She shook her head, pleased, relieved, and shocked. "Th-thanks," she said, panting wildly. The owl was still flapping its wings, attempting to attack her. She hesitated before wincing, staring at her wound. She wouldn’t stand down and let this owl tear her, of all cats, to pieces. She rammed into its wing, shaking off loose feathers that fell on her fur. She could wait until her wound healed; it didn’t matter for now. Again she was too slow, the owl clawed her with its talons she grunted as the owl opened another wound.

Standing up and giving himself a good shake, Grubs one good ear was tilted backwards. If he held any dignity to begin with, he might have been embarrassed by that horrific show of strength. "StAnD bAcK, I'll tAkE cArE oF iT!" Grub (poorly) mimicked the words he had heard from Ajex earlier, a grimy paw flicking out and batting the dirty feathers of the owl now dead as stone. "Don't sound so grumpy about it, kid. You offered to help to begin with. Give her a break; tough life out here away from kibble and a fluffy bed, huh? What's even got you out here with the likes of us?" He gave a grin, obviously mocking the house pet as well.

She staggered backwards in pain. "I don’t want to stay there anymore," she meowed, her voice kind and soft as ever. "I believe I can change," she said, showing courage to the cats. She wasn’t some weakling to be toyed with; she could fight back. Slowly but surely, she unclipped her collar that itched at her off her neck, shaking it off. She didn’t want to make the moment all sappy, but she believed she could change, whether these cats thought so or not. She glanced at them, waiting for a response.

It was Grub who took the initiative to step forward and nab the treasure from off the ground, enjoying the jingle it made as he picked it up. He would rather die than have this thing around his neck, but it would be fun if he could find someone to trick into thinking it was some fashionable piece. "Her funeral." He meowed around the jingling collar, shrugging his shoulders. He didn't understand the sentiment around wanting to prove yourself worthy to anyone, but to each their own. "If you think you can keep up with life outside cozy house pet life, then I've no problem with it. What do you say, Captain?"

Hazel’s heart had stopped racing. Was this her sign of acceptance towards the forest, or was it just a sign that she’d never be able to survive? She thought, no, she knew she was capable of survival. It was as if bravery ignited in her after she had attacked that owl. Being accepted didn’t matter, did it? All that mattered was that she had accepted herself. Her blue eyes still blazed brightly like a flame. Her eyes flicked back and forth between the two cats. "May I ask what your names are?" she meowed. She had forgotten to ask that earlier, but that was because she was going all out on a feathered mouse-brain.
