Acornstem's ears twitched as Tigerdance spoke, glancing over at her fellow deputy as he raised the important question of what they were going to do. She could only nod as Leopardstar spoke up. "I concur - our first step is finding a place we can allow the sick to rest," she meowed, through her throat tickled as she fought off the urge to follow the sentence with a series of coughs. "We have all suffered a long journey - we can't push our Clanmates any further. ThunderClan, for now, will find a location nearby for now as one or two of ours seeks a proper location that will serve as a proper camp," she meowed - turning her gaze towards the horizon. "We'll use this time to regain our strength, take stock of our Clanmates' situation. Any knowledge that our medicine cats gain will be shared with you all," she meowed, whiskers twitching as she spared a glance towards where SkyClan was mostly grouped. Perhaps it was a bit much to vow this without Mottlestar's approval but as much as she didn't trust SkyClan after one of their warriors took one of Mottlestar's lives... The life of her Clanmates mattered more. "...Tensions put aside, this sickness threatens us all. I can only hope you all feel the same way," she finished - before blinking as she felt a pelt brush against her. She turned to see Echosong at her side...But only for a few heartbeats before a far sicker cat caught his attention and caused him to peel away - leaving her to gaze after him with a soft smile, relieved to have him by her side in such a chaotic moment. Acornstem is Moderate sick. --------------------------------------------------------------- The herbs she had been carrying the entire trip unceremoniously dropped onto her paws as Badgermask twisted her head away - a series of surprise sneezes escaping her. The illness had been a steady thing - she hadn't quite realized that she had fallen sick until she had started to sneeze at random. So focused on keeping the herbs that had been given to her safe, she had paid no attention to her own health until it was clear that it was failing...Just like almost everybody else. Once the sneezes started to past and she gave a snort to try to clear her nose, she leaned down to pick up the herbs she had dropped, only to pause as two familiar names brushed past her ears. 'Make sure Batswarm and Moondancer...' It was easy to recognize it as her sister's voice, but her blood ran cold at the simple fact that Heatherberry was speaking of her two littermates as if they were still... Her teeth sank into the herbs as she quickly snatched it up, weaving her way between cats before she came to where Heatherberry had collapsed - her chest rising and falling in the steady rhythm of unconsciousness. Dropping the herbs, she prodded her sister a few times with a concerned snarl. "Heatherberry, this isn't the time...! You need to get up, we won't be here long!" Her voice started to waver towards the end as her paw hesitated above her sister's scarred shoulder before she dropped into a crouch, nosing her sister's face gently. "Come on, sis... I can't... You need to get up, please. I can't...Not you too." Badgermask (Moderate sick) is attempting to stir Heatherberry. --------------------------------------------------------------- It had all started with a struggle to catch his breath. Creamsky hadn't thought that much about it - he had never been as high up in the mountain and the air had felt so...Different in there. But when it had started to persist even after the decent had started... Perhaps then, he had started to realize that something was wrong. But he had been given the job of scout and he wasn't going to fail his Clan even then, so he had carried on even as it grew harder and harder to breathe. Coughs had started to become frequent, at first minor but now... Creamsky was rested on a rock - his paws covering his mouth as wet, harsh coughs rocked his entire body. It seemed they had no end until finally they did - and he drew back his head. "Oh," he murmured, staring down at his paws with a frown. That didn't...Seem good. His paws were speckled - nay, nearly coated - in red. Blood. "That's bad, I think." Creamsky is by is lonesome, slowly becoming aware that he has high severity. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Eveningpaw had never felt more confused and scared. It had been worrying to see her Clanmates' health started to decline - her sister's health among the worse. She didn't know what to do - but it was only compounded with the fact that against all odds...She was spared. Her health was as it normally was, even if she was on the frail side. She was picking her way carefully around her Clanmates when Tigerdance's voice rose up - orders being shouted. The healthy was to hunt. She could...Well, she could try - she had never been given a real shot at it before with how few prey there had been in WindClan's territory proper. Her tail swished, staring down at her paws. Most cats...Those who had escaped the sickness - they would feel lucky, or maybe proud. Not Eveningpaw. Her health came with only fear - fear of what would become of her if the rest of her Clanmates didn't get better and the few healthy were all that would be left.... She shook her head, closing her eyes as she couldn't bare to dwell on that future - not when her family was among the sick so she quickly broke into a sprint - heading out to follow Tigerdance's orders. Eveningpaw is going off to try hunting, as per Tigerdance's request to healthy cats. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Duckpaw, as usual, had fallen behind...But this time not because of their sleepiness - but because their legs had given out. They laid panting on their side, struggling to catch their breath but their body shook with violent coughs that only left them gasping for more air between them. Multiple times had Duckpaw attempted to rise to join the rest of their Clanmates - or at least make it to Sandyshell or Wrenpaw - but their legs felt like wet sand and they feared the dizziness that had help send them crashing to the ground in the first place. They threw their paws over their head with a pitiful whine, wishing for sleep for once - anything to escape how horrid they felt and how much effort it felt it took just to take in breaths. Duckpaw (high severity) has collapsed a bit behind everybody and is not having a great time, tbh. ______________________________________ Acornstar ♀ ~ Badgermask ♀ ~ Creamsky ♂ ~ Duckfeather ⚧ ~ Eveningmoon ♀ ~ Flurryshade ♂ (Not pictured) TC T5 Leader (70/200) ~ SC T5 Warrior (70/200) ~ SkC T5 Warrior (70/200) ~ RC T2 Warrior (40/110) ~ WC T2 Warrior (40/110) ~ TC T1 Warrior (30/80) Rosybrown (Forest)/Sandybrown (Feral) ~ Indigo ~ Tan ~ Olive ~ Icyblue ~ Slategray |

Mothpaw had not been immune to the sickness that spread across her clanmates - and to the other Clans. Who had the sickness first? Was it a RiverClan cat? Or had it infected cats across the Clans and spread on their journey? She wondered silently as they continued their journey, trying to stifle a cough. Her head felt as though she had it underwater, her chest tight. She did not feel well, not in any state to parade around - though as she glanced around, it appeared many were in the same way. Where are you, StarClan? Can’t you see we need you? ———— Sorrelpaw and her siblings had been fortunate in avoiding the sickness that had spread across the Clans like a wildfire. It appeared a large portion of SkyClan had been struck down; particularly her family. Her ears flattened at every cough that sounded, observing her grandmother with worry evident on her face. How much more could they take? Leaving their homeland, travelling all this way - their clanmates growing sick and now, Ploverpaw was missing. Sorrelpaw’s chest tightened as she thought of her sister; where was she? Her eyes were glassy as she padded along, considering her family’s health and sister’s disappearance with great worry. Wolfblossom had Birdstar to discuss with; she would bother her later. For now, she made her way to her mentor’s side, “How are you faring?” The grey apprentice asked Lightningbreeze softly, her eyes round, “you can lean on me if you need.” ———— Nettlepaw’s body fluctuated between warm and cold, shivering as he trailed behind his clanmates. His symptoms had shown quickly, emerging in not only ThunderClan’s cats. It felt as though he had stumbled down a hill, nauseous and dizzy. For once, the usually excitable ginger tom had been quietened. No grin decorated his face, his tail uncharacteristically still. The strange ailment brought back the one memory that when he recanted, made his chest tighten. The one memory he tried to block out; one that haunted him. Strange illnesses seemed to follow him since kithood; his apprenticeship had been delayed by a sickness that had claimed his mother. He had lay at her side, afflicted with the same condition, as she slowly worsened. Nettlepaw had recovered but his mother had not been so fortunate. Though he recovered, he had never felt the same. The stench of sickness was one he struggled to forget, burned into his nose. It lingered, as unwanted as the first frost. On dark, cold nights it was a smell he was reminded of. The only time that the thoughts he suppressed surfaced, whispering in his ears. Particularly now, as his body return to the same state and their temporary territory filled with the familiar smell. Now, he was sick yet again. Afflicted with an illness that had struck down countless cats, including his mentor. Worry filled the young tom, praying that they would not meet his mothers fate. This was terrifying. Goldenpaw’s paws shook as she walked along, despite her best efforts to keep them still and her pace steady, all to keep the cat leaning heavily on her shoulder comfortable. She wasn’t sick. She wasn’t the sick one. Then why did she feel like the rabbit she’d eaten last night was threatening to re-emerge in a particularly disgusting fashion? Her heart was beating quick and fast, but instead of the welcome battle-song, a different kind of adrenaline flooded through her veins. Worry. Anxious worry, stewing in her stomach, and something else she’d never felt before. Terror. It was exhausting, dogging her every step, keeping her high-strung and alert even as her paws dragged, a frantic quick beat drumming against her ribcage. Goldenpaw was terrified, and there was nothing she could fight, nothing she could face, nothing she could do to make it go away. Her world was falling apart around her. “No,” she told him in a broken whisper, laying her tail on his flank. “I’m not mad. You- you’re the best. I- I’m sorry.” Another coughing fit- Goldenpaw crouched by his side, tail-tip twitching, glaring about at the nearby cats with completely unfounded suspicion in her eyes. All she could do was press her flank against his, and whisper quiet unheard reassurances in his ears, words broken and stilted, claws sinking into her heart with each rattling cough. “I’m not leaving. I swear it on the stars themselves,” she told him, shouldering his weight without a single complaint. Maybe he wouldn’t hear her words, but she meant them anyways, meant them with every fragment of her being. “I’m never gonna leave you. Ever. I promise.” Goldenpaw is not sick, but isn’t having a great time either. |

Snailpaw made his way towards the rest of the cats. He was drowsy from the journey, but had finally sat down for some rest. He stuck to himself, nervous over all of the sounds of coughing and sniffling. He started gently yet quickly flicking his tail over the ground to soothe himself and tries to imagine himself anywhere but here. Snailpaw's breathing felt shallow, like he could never grab enough air to fill his lungs. A shiver flew up his spine as Snailpaw let out what he felt was a completely normal cough, and he thought it was.. Until he had tasted the tang of his own blood.. He laid down on the ground, slightly leaning on his side and feeling absolutely miserable. He felt like he couldn't do much more than sit there, not doing anything. Snailpaw was usually fine with not doing things, but now that he was restricted to doing nothing, it felt horrible. Snailpaw is severely sick. He's a bit anxious about talking but is open for some small chatter. ______________________________________

Poppyshine Poppyshine marched into the lake territory at the front of her clanmates. She was lucky enough to avoid sickness on the journey, but many other cats had gotten quite ill: including Perchstar, who Poppyshine grew more and more worried each day that she would lose a life to this sickness. Poppyshine took a moment to pause and look to Perchstar. She said softly, “Lay down and rest, alright? I will check on our clanmates, but you have to rest right now.” Poppyshine gave Perchstar a smile and listened to anything she had to tell her before she moved off to speak to her clan. “RiverClan, please stick close. Those that are very sick should conglomerate so they can get easier treatment. Those that are healthy, please assist in gathering moss to bring water to the sick, and then we will need to hunt for prey and see what herbs are available in this area for our medicine cats to use.” Poppyshine paused and glanced back towards Perchstar. The last instruction that she gave Poppyshine confused her, but Perchstar was so sick that they hadn’t gotten a chance to talk about what it meant. Still, she would pass it on, as is her duty as deputy. She kept her voice only loud enough for her clan to hear, and not for her words to carry to the other cats that lived in the same area. “We should all stick close. Please keep away from SkyClan cats for the time being. Thank you.” With her announcements given, Poppyshine went to Sandyshell and Wrenpaw’s side. She grimaced, seeing that they had not escaped sickness. “I’m going to check on who is or is not sick and get them situated in groups for you. I can help search for herbs tomorrow so you can have a better stock to work with…Please rest and take care of yourselves too. The last thing we need is either of you getting so sick you can’t work, okay?” She gave Sandyshell and encouraging smile. “Good luck. Thank you.” Poppyshine then begsn to move around her clanmates, checking on them and seeing how they are doing. She came across Duckpaw at one point and gently nosed against his fur. “Duckpaw, let’s move a little over in this direction so we’re closer to everyone, okay? Do you need me to carry you?” Poppyshine made an announcement to RiverClan and is trying to gather those severely sick. She is currently helping Duckpaw. They had an end in sight, which Pineblossom was grateful for; more than a couple times she had veered slightly off path and had to be guided back on course by Silverhawk or even her own kits. It was hard to keep her eyes open, as the world spun before her, and could not stop coughing or sneezing. She could not afford to be sick right now. She still had kits to nurse and care for. Stars know that Forestbreeze is at great risk for sickness too and they could not both afford to be ill right now. Now that they were at the lake, when their walking paused enough to stand still, Pineblossom carefully lowered to the ground and closed her eyes. Exhaustion washed over her, threatening to make her fall asleep, but she kept herself awke as she counted her kits and made sure they were present. “Stay with me and keep warm,” she murmured to them. “But stay away from my face…I don’t want to pass my sickness onto any of you.” Pineblossom will speak with Burdockroot or Heatherberry later and see if they had herbs to spare…but she had heard enough coughing and complaining from other cats to know that this sickness was not exclusive to herself. She was not as bad as others, but…She did not want to risk giving this same illness to her children. Pineblossom is with her kits, hoping not to get them sick. He had barely gotten any sleep, too busy with coughing and sneezes and an incessant heat that the light snow of early leafbare could not sooth. Multiple times he had to stray away from the group just to throw up in some bushes. He couldn’t keep any food down and he couldn’t feel his paws as they walked either. Rainfrost was sick as well, and so Crookedlight did not want to bother him with his illness. The group came to a stop, finally, at some great lake. Crookedlight deliriously wondered if the cold lake water would cool his fever, but he was too tired to go to the water and make the attempt. Perhaps he should be thankful, because the sickness that he observed in the other cats seemed horrendous, but he hated seeing the cats he cared about experiencing any symptoms at all. “You two just sit and rest,” Larkspring ordered. “I’m fine, so I’m going to get you both some water. Here.” He led them just a little bit further to a sunny patch with flat ground and waited until both Cindersky and Rookflight sat. When they were resting, he ran over to the river and started scouring it for moss that he could bring back so they could get some water without having to walk all the way to the lake. Willowwisp ended up half-wandering through the throng of cats during the travel as it became harder and harder to focus. She hacked and coughed, blood smearing on her white maw. She bumped into someone when the group came to a stop and she mumbled a quiet apology as her paws stumbled back in another direction. The world spinned around her and she tripped over her own paws, landing in a heap on the ground. Willowwisp huffed out each breath and stared blearily at the paws of the cats around her. It would be ironic, if Perchstar had the energy to comprehend irony. No sooner had she stumbled back into the group from her argument with Birdchaser--heart aching, veins burning with suppressed rage, wanting to cry and laugh and scream all at once--than she had collapsed with a sudden exhaustion in her trembling limbs. The sickness that had infected everyone else had gotten to her, it seemed. And badly. Half the time she couldn't even keep her eyes open. It had been all she could do to drag herself forward and whisper in hushed, heated tones to Poppyshine the few words that SkyClan could not be trusted. Any more than that, and her tongue fell too limp and useless to even move. How long had it been? Hours? Days? Moons? She didn't know. But suddenly the group stopped. Poppyshine was saying... something. It was impossible to tell what, through the ringing in her ears. Through the alternating flashes of hot and cold that rocked her pelt. Through the need to stay standing, to stay moving, to not let anyone see how bad it truly was. She had never been this ill in her life. She had never been this weak, not even while pregnant, not while exhausted, not while literally dying of starvation and thirst. Stars--she could die at any second. She had no clue where she was, let alone whether she was still alive. Poppyshine was talking to her. She thought she recognized soft green eyes, gentle kind voice. "Poppy..." Her words were shaky, hardly coherent. "SkyClan... don't..." Don't trust them, she wanted to say. They attacked us from behind. They betrayed us one final time, and we can't just take it, and I want to unsheathe my claws right now but my paws are trembling so hard I cannot even take one more step. "Stay... safe," the leader begged instead. Begged. Pathetic. Hopefully her words were quiet enough that Birdchaser and Beechfang and their whole rotten family weren't snickering at her somewhere. All her promises and for what? To be stricken ill before she could make good on them? She did not make idle threats. She did not. Cloverheart would be avenged. Cloverheart was dead in front of her, right now, a corpse on the ground. A waterlogged body of a friend. Time forgotten, everything forgotten, Perchstar slumped to the ground and pressed her nose into the grass that she saw as the unmoving body of her former medicine cat. This was okay. If she could lay here and die, perhaps she could take Cloverheart's place. Perhaps everything would be reversed. Perhaps she wouldn't be betrayed this time. Perchstar is Severely Sick and hallucinating. RiverClan will have to listen to Poppyshine's instruction. - Pigeonpaw was gone. Pigeonpaw was gone. He hadn't seen her in what must have been days--he hadn't seen her since the storm. Dovepaw was almost going mad with the shock of it all, with the endless stream of misfortunes, and he'd been developing a cough to boot. Nothing as bad as what he saw Perchstar stumbling along with, but bad enough to almost distract from his debilitating fear. His sister was missing. Missing. He'd failed to protect her. He'd failed to protect them all. Morningpaw, Pigeonpaw, who was next? Swanpaw? Ravenpaw? Owlcall even? Wild-eyed, Dovepaw made a check of RiverClan's ranks again, as if hoping that his sister's familiar pelt would suddenly spring into view. He didn't even see where he was going at this point--didn't even see the fresh water sparkling before his eyes--he was just wandering aimlessly, mouthing his sister's name with no sound emerging from his mouth. Dovepaw is Mildly Sick, but mostly worried sick about Pigeonpaw. -- Bubblepaw had been doing badly. She was still starving and weak from hunger. The journey had been taxing mentally, physically and emotionally. Ploverpaw was missing-missing--no one had seen her in days. And on top of all that, the scar on her face still ached. It had stopped bleeding, and thankfully her eye still worked. But aside from that it was all awful. The only thing that finally made it better was when their group halted to a stop in front of a giant, enormous puddle of water. Clear, fresh water. It looked... so good. Almost in disbelief, she smiled for the first time since the journey had begun, and sprinted towards the body of water. Giggling with pent-up terror and relief and the exhaustion that still shadowed her every step, she splashed around in it, drinking and rolling in the clean cool water in turns. "Mintglade! Bearpaw! Sorrelpaw!" she called out, trying desperately to focus on the only sign of hope in front of her. "Daddy, Gramma, look! Water!" Bubblepaw is Not Sick, but has a host of other problems. -- Hedgekit did not think she could get any more worried. She had hated this whole journey from the start; despite her brothers' and mother's reassurances, it was scary to be surrounded by so many cats she didn't know. However, it had somehow become worse. Mamma Pine was sick... very sick. She'd never seen her mamma like this. Hedgekit had been completely attached to her mother's side the whole time. Even Wolfkit was concerned, and Wolfkit tried his best not to be concerned with anything. "Do you want us to go get Heatherberry and Burdockroot, Mamma?" Hedgekit asked anxiously, her voice almost muffled by being pressed into the queen's pelt. "I'm pretty fast. I could go with Wolf; no one will step on us 'cause he'd bite them. You need to sleep, okay?" Sleep always made her feel better. But maybe Mamma didn't want to sleep. But she should! It would make her better! What always made Hedgekit go to sleep when she didn't wanna? "...Mamma, should we tell you a bedtime story?" Hedgekit is immune to sickness but not immune to worry for her mamma. ______________________________________ ⸙ Larchbreeze ⸙ ~ ♡ Hedgepaw ♡ ~ ◈ Dovetail ◈ ~ ○ Bubblebeam ○ ⸙ WindClan ⸙ ~ ♡ ShadowClan ♡ ~ ◈ RiverClan ◈ ~ ○ ShadowClan ○ ⸙ Tier 4 Warrior ⸙ ~ ♡ Apprentice ♡ ~ ◈ Tier 4 Warrior ◈ ~ ○ Tier 3 Warrior ○ ~~PM me here or on Discord if you want a topic with any of my cats!~~ ~Signature and Avatar by Xaandiir!~ |
