Today was one of the rare mornings where she held the opportunity to find relaxation for herself amidst the usual, busy duties that she was caught up in—both in mentoring and warrior duties alike. The scarcity of prey worried her, but she trusted the medicine cats to find a solution for them soon. At least, that was optimistic thinking. But it wouldn't hurt to hope, would it?

Spotting Sootstorm by the entrance of the camp, a smile easily bloomed across Fennelbreeze's maw from the sight of him. It was true from how busy they were that responsibility kept them occupied for most of their time from patrolling with each other as often as before; but during those rare moments, she'd treasure it forever, no matter how simple.

"Sootstorm!" Fennelbreeze called out, hurriedly padding over to him with her tail raised in excitement, and a bright smile on her face. "I hope I'm not late. Should we go now?"

Fennelbreeze felt her pelt heat up from his affectionate gesture, though she returned it with equal fondness. Their chat happened as naturally as breathing; she long had missed such moments when they could just walk along the moors and share casual conversation together without a single worry in the world. With him, it felt like even harsh season wasn't so harsh, after all. Things were finally starting to be peaceful.

...Yet, it seemed as if fate didn't want them to stay peaceful for too long.

A glowering pair of amber eyes hid themselves behind the disguise of a bush, snout carefully poking out to sniff the air. Crouching, the vixen crept up from behind the two unsuspecting cats, purposely keeping its scent downwind to avoid being spotted—then quickly launched itself out of hiding with a hostile screech towards the oblivious she-cat. Before Fennelbreeze could defend herself, sharp rows of teeth crashed down upon her foreleg—eliciting an ear-screeching yowl from deep in her throat in blinding pain. Blood spurted out from her wound, a gruesome mixture of tender flesh and bones crushed beneath the beast's grasp in just a fleeting moment of reckless inattentiveness.

Through instinctive horror left her feeling stunned, but common sense snapped her back to reality, albeit a bit too late; claws blindly reaching out to strike for the vixen's eyes. She was sure she had struck something, because she felt her claws slash through squishy material—leaving the fox to instantaneously release its hold on her leg and stumble back with raspy barks. She struggled to stand in fear of losing too much blood, though she couldn't afford to lose this battle. Not now. Not when there was Sootstorm with her, and both of their lives at risk.
