Fires Fading (Closed)

Duskpaw… wasn’t doing the best lately. There was a fair bit of concern over her chest infection potentially coming back, but she still needed to hunt for the clan. Her skinny, bony frame made a stark contrast, then, to the plump warrior she joined for what passed for a meal today. Sure, Fuzzface had lost weight, but he wasn’t scrawny to begin with.

“Hey,” she mewed weakly. “How’re you doing?”

The amount of food that WindClan was able to bring home was slowly diminishing, which brought some concern to the round warrior, but he still needed to eat. Having grabbed a scrawny mouse from the not-so-fresh pile, he bit into the tiny piece of prey. It didn't have the usual flow of blood like he was used to and the skin was dry as a bone. Apparently even the prey were having a tough time. Luckily for him, he hadn't lost too much weight during this harsh season yet, which was truly a surprise even to himself, and he prayed to StarClan that he didn't manage to lose anymore.

Before he was able to consume himself in anger about the whole situation, a young voice sounded nearby. Turning to see Duskpaw, he hadn't noticed how flimsy the apprentice had gotten. She must've been hungry...

Listening to his stomach rumble, he let out a sigh. He's be a monster if he didn't share his meal, and stretching out a plump fuzzy paw he pushed what remained of his meal to the apprentice. "Good, I guess," he responded ever-so unenthusiastically, not bothering to ask her a question in return.

She didn’t want to take it at first, but Duskpaw felt like she might faint. Even if Fuzzface hadn’t already taken a bite it would barely be a meal, but the apprentice took a nibble anyway. The mouse seemed to have less meat on it than she did, but it was what they had.

Duskpaw coughed slightly. “Must have gotten some fur in my throat,” she mewed, but she knew perfectly well it wasn’t that. “Have you even seen the prey this scarce before?” she asked him, trying not to let her voice betray her worry.
