Subject: softkit's apprentice ceremony Thu 31 Aug 2023 - 20:00
She had been pondering this ceremony all day. Even in its sweltering heat, she had it at the forefront of her mind. Finally had the forest began to cool off for the evening, and even with her shorter fur, Mottlestar was extremely thankful for the reprieve from the heat. Her head was held high as she made her familiar hop, looking out to her Clan with a warm purr. Sharing tongues, enjoying their dinners, kits playing about... It was a role she hadn't ever seen herself in, but she was thankful. Thankful to get to watch them all. It reminded her of the days she had spent playing atop the rock, the rock that was now hers to command. Perhaps one day... the one she was apprenticing would sit here. Perhaps not. Maybe her current apprentice? Only the stars knew.
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a Clan meeting!"

Even if most of them liked speaking that weird not-language Softkit still enjoyed watching her clanmates. On a day like this they provided much needed 'entertainment' while she groomed herself, though they wouldn't be of much use to her soon. Rolling onto her back the young kit grabbed her back left paw and bit into the pad, intent on pulling something out of it.
Softkit paused for a moment as someone began shouting something. It was in that same weird language the others liked speaking, was everyone but her in on this game? You too, Mottlestar? The kit resumed chewing at her paw, though her attention was now fixed on the leader.
She wouldn't delay any further. Rising to all four paws, she looked directly at Softkit. Even if she knew her younger clanmates had a slightly harder time grasping her native tongue due to their lineage, she knew fully well they would adapt. Hopefully, they would be able to pass their language onto cats like her as well. But that was an issue for another time. Keeping her gaze focused on the younger kit, she used her body language to hopefully make up for any other verbal barriers. "Softkit, step forward, please." She purred, her head dipping in such a way to signal.
"Softkit, by birthright of being in Thunderclan, you have reached the age to become an apprentice. From now until you take the pledge to earn your warrior name, you shall be known as Softpaw. Comfreyheart will mentor you. She's a cat of much experience, and I have no doubt she will teach you well." She had known of Comfreyheart's opinions of the feral cats that had come into Thunderclan. She could hardly blame her, but they also needed all the paws they could get to train the kits they had borne. They were still half-Thunderclan. Her gaze moved to meet that of her onyx-pelted warrior, hoping to convey that understanding in her amber gaze.
Aurelia had grown used to the calls of Thunderclan's leadership from what they called the high rock, with each consecutive call it seemed the nursery lost a number and the apprentice den grew more crowded. The golden tabby couldn't deny she was glad to see the kits she, Hank and Sleet had brought into the world growing, though it filled her with a twinge of sadness to see them leave the nursery and their parents behind, too. Still, she sat quietly at the nursery's edge, watching Fallowpaw be given a mentor. Comfreyheart... She was one of the cats who had fought against those dogs with them, Aurelia was pretty sure. Still, she'd be watching the kit's training progression closely either way.
What!? she managed not to growl aloud, though her expression clearly spoke it. “She's a cat of much experience, and I have no doubt she will teach you well.” Comfreyheart hid her bared teeth away by pursing her lips in a disgusted frown. She glared directly into the rock-perched molly’s amber eyes, snarling, Why me!? It's bad enough they’re here, the least you could do is let me pretend they don’t exist! She considered refusing right then and there. Mottlestar returned her gaze.
Fine, she spat, tearing her sight away from the small molly and toward her new apprentice. Contempt pulled at her maw as she glared down at Softpaw’s weird pelt pattern and foreign build. As much as she distrusted these feral cats in her clan, Comfreyheart wouldn’t act like she had an honorable heritage either. She knew firsthand you could be born from the most wretched, scum-of-the-earth cat ever and still be good and kind. And Softpaw was still just a young molly who needed someone to guide her. The senior warrior flicked her tail decidedly. Whatever. I’ll still make sure you are the most loyal and brave warrior out there. No one will ever doubt you to be a Thunderclan cat. With that reluctantly decided, Comfreyheart said to her curtly, “We’ll train right away. I’ll teach you how to fight like a Thunderclanner.” Suddenly she wondered if the kitten even knew what she was saying. The onyx molly shot an annoyed glance to Mottlestar, as if to say, Are you sure about this?
