Peonylight was out in thunderclan territory, hunting alone, when she noticed the prey that she was chasing end up near the thunderpath. she hasn't been in this place since she was an apprentice and it still brought fear to her. She wanted to turn back but wanted to not go back empty handed. This was her last chance to catch the mouse and so she kept on running.
Peonylight was so focused on the mouse that she didn't realize the most important thing. The thunderpath. She ran on it to catch the mouse. She smiled down at the catch that she gained before everything flashed before her eyes. One second she was standing over her prey when suddenly the next to was on the ground, pain all over her, with no idea what happened as she saw a monster drive by. She didn't know what happened but knew that she was dying. She looked up to the sky and with her final words, "Im sorry mom." her eyes glazed over. she was gone.

The Thunderpath was not a place Firefly frequented often, but it was still a ThunderClan border that needed attention just like any other. Her patrol skirting as far away from it as possible, Firefly's ears flattened against her dark orange head as a monster flew past, leaving a disgustingly tangy scent in the air behind it. Green eyes narrowed as she watched it leave, a familiar pattern left in its wake: calico pelt, a few petals fluttering in the makeshift breeze.
And then it was still.
Her eyes must have deceived her. Her adopted daughter couldn't have been so foolish as to set paw on the Thunderpath alone-
The closer the patrol got, the more visibly panicked Firefly became, splitting from the group to anxiously look both ways before stepping up onto the grainy stone of the Thunderpath. Her fears were confirmed. It was Peonylight. It didn't take much to understand what had happened; a bird laid flat under the calicos paws. "Oh, Peonylight..." Before another monster had time to come, Firefly was grabbing the limp and lifeless body of her daughter by the scruff, dragging her off the path with tears pricking her eyes.
Echosong had been looking for any excuse he could to leave camp - not for any nefarious reasons, but just because he liked a long walk now and again, all while looking for herbs and flowers to decorate the fern tunnel. As the patrol neared the Thunderpath Echosongs fur rose at the sound of the monsters roaring across the blackened earth.
He was most fearful of the Thunderpath, it's noises reminded him of the shaking that brought on the Twolegs after the great shake, its smell reminded him of when he was abandonded by it as a kit. No good ever came from its existence and everytime he crossed it to bring another apprentice to the Moonstone his bloodpressure shot through the roof. Echosong sniffed the air and recoiled at the scent of blood, "Firefly?" he called out nervously, padding forward to see her dragging something off the road. Echosong recognized the patchwork pelt of his friend. He had interacted with the flower loving warrior many a time, he was grateful for her help when looking for lavendar and always thought she was a strong member of their clan. "Peonylight.." he meowed softly stepping forward to check for a heartbeat even if deep down he knew he wouldn't find one. Echosong picked the closest flower he could find and placed it behind her ear, "May the Stars light your path, friend." he meowed pressing his nose to hers one last time before offering Firefly to assist in bringing her home so the rest of the clan would be able to share tongues with her before she was buried.

It had been a blessing of a day - Acornstem had been given the chance to go out with both of her best friends. The deputy padded a bit behind - keeping an eye out across the border before her head turned as she could practically sense the nervous energy that was coming from Firefly. That...That wasn't normal - but it didn't take long to notice the pelt that stood out against the dull darkness of the Thunderpath, her breath catching in her throat. "Oh no..." she breathed.
Her fur prickled as Firefly stepped onto the Thunderpath to receive her daughter, glancing both ways to make sure the path was clear before her friend was back in the safety of their territory. She brushed past Echosong, curving her way around the body to press against Firefly. She...It wasn't hard to put the pieces together and her heart sank. Why would Peonylight... "I'm so sorry for your loss, Firefly," she murmured as Echosong took a moment to say his goodbyes to the warrior - before she lent down to help the two as well. There was so much more she wanted to say but the words escaped her - in disbelief that this had transpired.
