"Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the tallbranch for a clan meeting!" Wolfblossom's call rang across camp as she leapt to the tallbranch, fluffy tail flicking back and forth. Another day, another grandkit to become an apprentice... These ceremonies were almost as joyous as the new lives that had been brought into the clan were. It did sadden her a little to see the nursery grow small again, but knowing that the kits were growing fast and strong made her heart glad too.
Ploverkit rose her head. Oh, a clan meeting! she purred delightfully. After shaking out her pressed fur to make it fluffy again, she walked over to her sisters and took a seat. Tail curled on her neat paws just so, she began to groom herself out of habit. Ploverkit listened to her sisters attentively. These clan meetings always brought such pleasant energy, primarily through Bubblepaw and Sorrelpaw’s thrill.
She quietly noticed a look in her grandmother’s eye. The deputy was watching her and her siblings. Was it another kitten’s turn to join the apprentice den? Cypress or me, she remembered with a glance to the dilute tortoiseshell. I hope it’s her, she might be disappointed or teased if she’s the very last to graduate.
Wolfblossom cleared her throat and Ploverkit set her ears toward the molly. The sun pressed into her fur lovingly, encouraging her to feel ready for a big change. Soon we’ll all be apprentices. We’ll all be together again.
As usual, it wasn't long before cats gathered, and she noted Ploverkit had sat among her siblings. Their family was a close knit one, and it was time that she join the apprentice den. Cypresskit would follow soon, and then before Wolfblossom could blink, Birdstar would be handling their warrior ceremonies. They grew so fast...
"Ploverkit, step forward," The deputy's tone was warm as she gazed down at her granddaughter. "You've reached the age of six moons, and it is time you become an apprentice. From now until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Ploverpaw. I will be your mentor." The deputy leapt from the branch, padding up to her granddaughter with a purr. "Training will begin in the morning. Early enough to beat the heat, I hope. Go get your new nest set up and take today to celebrate, Ploverpaw." She mewed, gently touching her nose to the newly-named apprentice's.
The deputy’s request was warm as the sunlight. Ploverkit stepped forward, fur perfectly fluffed and white as a bright day’s clouds. She felt hyped from the crowd's growing excitement. Nothing was better than getting to watch a kitten begin their journey to warriorhood.
Her tail couldn’t help but swish around with joy as she gazed up at her new mentor. Anticipation fluttered in her chest, eager to learn all the rules and techniques from her beloved, wise grandmother. Ploverpaw remembered the way their gentle, cold noses met. She nodded gratefully, too caught up in the clan’s energy to say any words.
Ploverpaw! Ploverpaw! She turned to the crowd with a sweet grin. Though unsure why, it felt so nice hearing them all cheer in celebration. The grey-pointed apprentice embraced her siblings, happiness flowing from their congratulations. A new path lay before her, one she couldn't wait to share with them.
