Wolfblossom couldn't help but feel excited as she leapt up to the tallbranch, bright blue eyes surveying camp for a moment. Today, another of her grandkits would become an apprentice. Wolfblossom's gaze settled on the nursery for a moment, the deputy unable to hide her smile as she called out for the clan. "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the tallbranch for a clan meeting!"
Bubblekit scampered out of the nursery at Gramma's call, looking upwards with bright and eager eyes. Bearpaw had just recently gotten his ceremony--he'd been the first, just as she predicted!--so it stood to reason that it would be her turn soon. Or maybe Cypress's, or Sorrel's. But maybe hers. Either way, it was always fun to go see ceremonies and meetings and stuff. Something interesting always happened! So it was that she parked herself beneath the Tallbranch. Belatedly she remembered to groom her soft gray fur, making sure that it wasn't too ruffled from running around and playing before. She wanted to look beautiful for her ceremony. (If it was her ceremony.)
Wolfblossom watched as Bubblekit scampered out of the nursery, pausing to belatedly give her fur a few licks. A purr rumbled in the deputy's throat, and once a few more cats had gathered, she spoke. "Bubblekit, step forward," Her tone was warm, excitement for her grandkit just as evident as it had been for Bearpaw's ceremony previously, "You've reached the age of six moons, and it's time you become an apprentice. From now until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Bubblepaw. Your mentor will be Rainfrost." The warrior might have been small, but what he lacked in size he made up for in heart. He was a levelheaded tom who had always been dependable. A good match for Bubblepaw, she hoped.
Bubblekit--no, Bubblepaw! It was her ceremony after all! The newly named apprentice couldn't help but let out a rippling purr as Gramma gave her ceremony, pride entering the deputy's voice as she spoke from the Tallbranch. Finally she could hunt! She could fight! She could go to Gatherings! She could catch the sun! And as if she hadn't been excited enough, her mentor's name was a familiar one. It wasn't quite as good as having dad, like Bearpaw did, but... "Uncle Rain!" she chirped brightly, her face splitting into a wide smile as she glanced around for the tom. "Rainrainrain! I'm so excited! When do we start? Can we start right now?" She glanced upwards once more with eyes alight. "Thanks, Gramma!"
Rainfrost was of course in the crowd for his niece’s ceremony, a small smile on his face as he watched the ceremony play out. He straightened to his attention when his own name was called, and he came forward through the crowd to come to the base of Tallbranch. True to her nature, Bubblepaw was already rambling excitedly before he even approached. Looking up at the branch, Rainfrost offered his aunt a soft smile and a nod before he looked at Bubblepaw.
Leaning down to touch his nose to her as the ceremony called for before he spoke, Rainfrost said, “Not right now, but first thing in the morning, so we can have plenty of time.” His heart filled with affection. He’d been a mentor once before, and to his pride and delight, Lionstripe had grown into a fine warrior. He could only hope he could do the same for Bubblepaw, especially as she was his treasured kin. Every member of his family was important to him; especially his sister, and by extension, her children. He hoped Juniperheart would be happy about this too.
“For tonight, celebrate, Bubblepaw.” He told her softly, unable to keep a serious expression on his face in the wake of Bubblepaw’s visible joy at being his apprentice. "And then get plenty of rest. We’ll start bright and early. I look forward to being your mentor.”
