Crookedlight
Crookedlight had of course noticed the new addition to their clan. It was impossible to miss her, with half of her face missing its fur, and one eye being gone as well. She had a nasty, intimidating sort of look to her, even as she seemed to be just a regular old cat. Crookedlight knew that she was just a normal cat. He only had one interaction with her, and she had snapped at him; not scary when he thought about it that way, but his memory had colored her to be quite tall and menacing, looming over him and barking at him. He tried to shake that thought out of his head. It would be unfair to her. She was probably very nice, especially seeing as she was Birdstar and Wolfblossom’s mother! He loved them both; he was sure that he would love this cat too.
He just needed to…talk to her.
That was way easier to do if he didn’t have his stupid kittish memory of her and the knowledge that she murdered a medicine cat before her exile. He believed it was self-defense as Birdstar said (though he couldn’t picture a medicine cat attacking anyone) but it still left some unease in his chest.
If you talk to her, the unease will go away! Foolish…
Crookedlight watched Beechfang meander around the camp and he took a deep breath. He was not going to continue conveniently avoiding her; it was about time he introduced himself. So he shoved down any uncertainties and put on his usual winning smile and approached.
“It’s Beechfang, right?” Crookedlight purred. “I’m afraid I haven’t gotten the chance to introduce myself. I apologize for my rudeness. I’m Crookedlight. It’s great to meet you.”

It seemed that every day Beechfang met someone knew. One by one, she was getting to know her clanmates beyond just semi-familiar faces in the crowd. As glad as she was of it, she could not seem to slay the feeling of ever-growing unease, the feeling that this was all too good to be true. Bloodstrike had been captured by twolegs, what new misfortune would befall her family and clan? Seldom did those misfortunes remain standalone for long.
A voice interrupting her thoughts was something the scarred tabby was almost grateful for. Her head turned to bring a black and white tom into her field of vision, vaguely familiar. She'd probably just seen him around camp and not really noticed, but now he'd approached her, all smiles.
"That would be me." She nodded. Crookedlight, he introduced himself as, and she dipped her head slightly in acknowledgement. "It's nice to meet you. You're not the first to have waited." Her whiskers twitched, "I think I've been meeting new cats every day... Maybe I'll have met everyone by the start of leaf-fall." Skyclan was almost overwhelming in how large it was in comparison to what she had once known. From the small, devastated clan she'd known as a kit and apprentice, things had changed drastically. For the better too, it seemed. Her new clanmates seemed to be far more welcoming of outsiders than sshe was used to. She would try her hardest not to be the source of that changing.

Crookedlight
Beechfang’s greeting was gentle and polite. Crookedlight could feel his body relaxing immediately. See? His perception of the frightening, snarling molly was nothing more than a frightful memory of a stressful moment.
Crookedlight smiled and nodded. “It is the biggest clan in the forest, so no wonder it’s hard to meet everyone. I don’t even think I can remember everyone’s name off the top of my head.” It’s so easy to lose track of the cats in their clan. It makes Crookedlight feel bad sometimes, but he’s been called the wrong name on occasion, so that helps him not feel quite as bad.
“Birdstar mentioned how you lived here for a while before your leave,” Crookedlight said. It seemed…polite to call it a ‘leave’ rather than ‘exile’. “What was SkyClan like while you lived here?”

"We were much smaller once... And far more chaotic. What Skyclan was like is a broad question, Crookedlight." She could remember how their ragtag numbers had arrived at the river, then headed toward twolegplace in defeat when they had found it dried up. The Asylum taking over, Flowerthorn's kitting, Dawnhawk, Windclan... Herself, even. Bloodstrike and Briarthorn... She shook her head. "Despite our numbers, there was always some torment or hardship. Always some sort of drama. I was barely an apprentice when I was asked by Sagelight, our medicine cat, to become his apprentice. I refused, and that night a fire swept through the territory, driving the clan to twolegplace. I became a medicine cat eventually... Dragged kicking and screaming into it, of course. I treated more injuries than I ever did illness, I think. Be that from other cats or foxes. Or cats wearing the skins of foxes. The forest has never been so peaceful as it has been these past few moons... But there was never a dull moment in Skyclan." The elder tabby let out a snort. "Don't tell Birdstar this, because I fear she'd take it as a challenge... But Skyclan is almost boring now." Beechfang rather thought she liked a boring Skyclan, however, and it was evident in her tone.

Crookedlight
Crookedlight listened attentively to the older cat’s stories. His ears flattened at the mention of tragedies that struck SkyClan in her time. Bad things still happened now, of course, but all of the injuries, from predators and cats alike…It sounds practically like war. Crookedlight was glad that things were calm, relatively speaking.
Crookedlight chuckled at her last comment and replied, “Boring makes for an easier life, at least. Given all the excitement that seems to be going on in WindClan and ShadowClan, I think I’ll take a it of boring peace instead.” He tilted his head. “Do you know anything about what’s going on with WindClan and ShadowClan? I had never realized just how messy other clans can get.” At least so long as Crookedlight has been alive, SkyClan has been peaceful and stable. Seeing so much chaos in other leadership had him on edge at Gatherings.

"That's true," Beechfang nodded. "It's not easy to deal with, and nobody wants to see their clanmates injured and dying, with enemies lurking at every corner." Maybe some enemies still lurked... Beechfang tried to push that from her mind. "Skyclan's in a healthier place now, not just physically."
The question about what was going on with Windclan and Shadowclan wasn't one that Beechfang was sure she knew how to answer. "I'm... Not sure. Territory, or trespassing, if I had to guess. Rarely does that lead to peaceful clan relations. I don't go to gatherings, and I'll be happy to stay home from them in the future. Hopefully their issues stay across the forest."

Crookedlight
Crookedlight nodded sympathetically. “The gatherings have certainly been more problems than peace as od late…makes it hard to believe sometimes that it is supposed to be a place of peace and community between the clans.” He shook his head. “Sometimes I wonder why I still go, too. I don’t feel like I get much out of it…well, ever. I often wonder what they’re even meant for, really."

"I've been a part of too many chaotic gatherings to ever believe they'll stay peaceful... I've caused the chaos a time or two. Realizing a medicine cat lied about my younger sister being alive, and confessing to murder aren't exactly ways to have a peaceful gathering. Nor is finding out Windclan harbored the murderous traitor your clan had been hunting for moons." Beechfang shook her head, "But to be the one to start with the claws and fangs at one? They ought to be ashamed of themselves. I've seen a group of cantankerous elders who should know better, and I've seen apprentices too young to know better get caught up in the heat of the moment." She sighed, "It's never worth it, no matter how just the cause may seem. I think most cats understand that. But the minority is always the loudest... And often the most capable of putting everyone around them in danger."
"I don't envy those of you who still go to them, honestly... But gatherings can sometimes be beneficial. Keeping tabs on what's happening around the forest is good, though. The gathering was how I met the cat who helped me complete my training as a medicine cat. Being able to connect with the other clans can prove beneficial in times of need too."

Crookedlight
Crookedlight nodded along with Beechfang. He agreed with everything she was saying. It was a shame that it was so rare for cats to be on the same page about keeping things civil at these gatherings. He replied, “Conversing with other cats is the part that I enjoy. It’s been interesting getting to know cats from other clans. I’ve mostly spoken with RiverClan cats so far, and they seem nice. It’s good to know they’re our allies.” Their mind thought back to Rowansong again and he wondered briefly if Rowansong found their conversations to be enjoyable. It was hard to tell most of the time.

Beechfang couldn't help the brief wrinkle of her nose at the mention of Riverclan. "I know they're our allies now, but it feels strange." She murmured. "You seem to be in the minority... Socializing can be good, but it's not often that it's enjoyable at gatherings. It's good to get to know others, though, even in passing... Just don't get to know them too well." Skyclan did seem to be more outgoing than the clan she had known, that was true.

Crookedlight
Crookedlight’s ear twitched and he thought about Nightstar and Mottlestar, and the trouble they got in for getting to know one another too well. He had no plans on getting that close to any cats outside of SkyClan. SkyClan had plenty of lovely cats to get to know, and he’s been enjoying growing close with them when he wasn’t getting lost in his own head.
“Don’t worry, I won’t,” Crookedlight assured with a light laugh. “More trouble than it seems to be worth, honestly.”

"Sometimes." She agreed softly. "It should be nobody's business, really. But cats are by nature nosy, and the stars enjoy meddling where they shouldn't. There have been times where the stars were far too harsh about such things. The Righteous Few, they were called, and Starclan themselves helped fight against their madness." She could recall the stories of the Righteous Few from her kithood, and how Skyclan had been the least affected clan while others had lost leaders and warriors for their supposed crimes. She was glad that her own relationships would never come under such harsh scrutiny, and the cats who had first found out about her own transgressions had been family. Far more understanding than some medicine cat or leader from another clan might have been. Perhaps not approving, but nobody had wound up dead for them. "That was before even my time, though. I'm not exactly the cat who can warn others against it, considering the father of my own kits. Knowing the potential consequences... That's why it happened when the dark forest had cut off the stars. Everyone else was focused on more important things." If one didn't know Beechfang, they might think she was being serious about that last bit, though there was a hint of sarcastic humor within her as she spoke.

Crookedlight
Crookedlight hummed as he considered her words. He had never heard of the Righteous Few, but considering the seriousness in her tone, he decided that he would save his curiosity for another day. He had only just met Beechfang, and he would not run his tongue so much to overwhelm or annoy her.
He had vaguely known of Birdstar’s (and her siblings’) mixed origin, though it wasn’t something he had really considered. Given Beechfang’s frightening appearance and seriousness towards a lot of things in the clan, Crookedlight had almost forgotten that she had partaken in a forbidden romance. Crookedlight wondered what her mate had been like.
“It seems there were a lot of…” Crookedlight paused to try and choose his words. He ultimately settled for a weaker phrase. “things that happened, to do with the stars.” The most he had seen of StarClan had been the lightning at the last gathering. To hear of StarClan helping fight madness, or the stories of the stars disappearing with the dark forest invasion…it sounded like stories for kits. StarClan always felt so far away.

"I'd use stronger language... But yes. Yes there was." Beechfang sighed, tail tip flicking. The stories of the Righteous Few, of Starclan fighting back against foxhearted injustice, made all the times they had failed to act or forewarn the clans sting all the more. "There's some good cats up there... But they're still just cats. Death gives them strange powers, undeserved powers that tend to amplify the flaws they had in life. Rarely does death give them wisdom or common sense, I've come to realize. It is what it is, I suppose... Ranting about it will do little."

Crookedlight
Crookedlight hummed; he hadn’t considered the fact that even in death, StarClan cats are still just…cats. They were described as so otherworldly and omnipotent. It made sense that they would make mistakes just as any cat in the forest would. “That’s fair…all the more reason to be the best cat you can, then.” He shook his head and looked back at Beechfang. “This has been an enlightening conversation, Beechfang. Thank you for humoring me with all my questions.”
