Jaykit's Apprentice Ceremony

The greenleaf day was warm, with a slight breeze blowing through camp. Pleasant, Wolfblossom thought, though the capture of one of their own by twolegs was still on her mind. Life moved on, however, and there were patrols to assign, prey to catch... And today, a new apprentice would be made. The deputy leapt up to the tallbranch, gazing down at her clanmates.

"Let all cats old enough to climb a tree gather beneath the tallbranch for a clan meeting!"

Jaykit was in his usual stroll around camp when he had heard the call for a call meeting, he had just become 6 moons old. So he dashed right over to where ceremonies usually took place. Eyes gleaming with excitement he would have a mentor, who would teach him to hunt to battle to use his claws he hadn’t been able to use for 6 whole moons. He then had wondered who his mentor would be he looked around. Not really anyone he knew, well he could get along with cats well so that wouldn’t be much of a problem. He looked at the deputy anticipation being the only expression that showed on his face.

Often kits were excited for her meetings, and given that she was the one who handled the apprentice ceremonies, Wolfblossom couldn't blame them. She smiled when she spotted Jaykit among the crowd, meeting his gaze. "Jaykit, step forward." Wolfblossom waited until the kit had done so before she continued. "You have reached the age of six moons old, and it is time you become an apprentice. From now until you earn your warrior name, you shall be known as Jaypaw. Your mentor will be Falconmoon. He's a skilled warrior, and I trust that he can teach you in turn." It wasn't long ago that her son had made the transition back to a normal patrolling schedule, and Wolfblossom trusted that he was capable of the task set before him.

Jaykit had still be watching in anticipation. The deputy had smiled friendly at him, he had done the same back. Still hard to believe he would be an apprentice within a few short moments. As he had been thinking the deputy called his name, and to step forward. Finally, it had been time. The next few movements felt natural, cats watching him all around friendly gazes. Then the deputy had spoken again. It was as if he had envisioned this moment several times already. Jaypaw was now his name. Felt even better than he could’ve thought it to be, and with Falconmoon as his mentor. He had no idea who that was, but they had a cool name.

Falconmoon blinked at his name being called, surprised as if he never expected to get an apprentice. That was silly... but it had been so long... His blazing blue eyes settled on Jaypaw. The gold and white tom stood and approached his new apprentice. Falconmoon's first one... but not really his first.

"Training begins immediately Jaypaw. I'm sure you'll do fine." He said calmly. He touched noses with his apprentice, as was tradition. As soon as the meeting was dismissed, he'd be taking his apprentice out on his first hunt.
