I don't live because I can't die, but I'm chained to something.

Life was something that every cat took for granted. Nothing bad could ever happen to them because every cat believed themselves to be invincible. When disaster struck a companion, there were always thoughts and prayers, but the most common thought was "that could never happen to me"... until it did happen to them.

Pantherkit was invincible. Well, that's what his kit brain seemed to think. Nothing terrible could ever happen to him because why would it? How could it? He couldn't even fathom the idea of harm striking him at any time because he was still so young. Tragedy was a myth to him. Rules, however, were not a myth. Queens had a habit of telling their kits that they'd be gobbled up by foxes if they dared to step foot outside of camp before they were apprenticed, and Pantherkit certainly believed it, but as he crouched by the nursery and looked over at the camp's exit, he started to wonder just how far out into the territory would hurt. Going out only a few steps wouldn't change anything. Foxes wouldn't care to come so close to WindClan's camp if they were smart.

So, he moved with swiftness, but also with the clumsiness of a kit. He didn't make it very far before he was caught, but that was to be expected. He hadn't wanted to go very far out anyway with the queens' threats still echoing in his mind. All he had wanted to do was take a few steps out, and he had done so.

He whirled around as the older cats that had found him approached him. What he wasn't aware of was the stealthy, incoming figure of an eagle as it laid eyes upon the black bundle of fur that was otherwise known as Pantherkit, or more threateningly, its next meal.

Nectarflower was seated at the top of the hollow, her tail curled neatly around her paws as she scanned the moor for danger. She had self-appointed herself to guard the camp on her down time given the...tension between the clans lately. More than anything, she was concerned with keeping her clan safe.

Unlike those cowards in Shadowclan, she didn't want revenge or even to get an apology. She just wanted all of this mess to end. The new generation of Windclan didn't deserve to live in fear - afraid that Shadowclan would descend at any moment.

The tortoiseshell she-cat sighed and lifted her head, looking out at the peaceful moor. Suddenly, movement from the corner of her eye caught her attention. Nectarflower's gaze dropped and she spotted the shape of a small kit slinking around the edge of the camp. The young warrior hurried down the slope, falling in step behind Pantherkit.

Her usual cheerful expression fell into a stern frown and Nectarflower cleared her throat, unimpressed. "What do you think you're doing out here? Don't you know it's dangerous to leave the camp alone, much less at such a young age?"

Unfortunately, Nectarflower was unaware of the danger that circled in the cloudy sky above. Maybe if it had been a sunny day, she would have seen its shadow. However, it wasn't sunny and there were no shadows to alert her to the eagle above.

So, she looked back toward the camp, wondering if any of her clanmates had noticed the scene occurring just a few tail-lengths away.

Tigerdance had been resting in the camp, having patrolled the Shadowclan border twice today already. He was tired. Exhausted even. This constant looking over his shoulder for Shadowclan was a pain. He just wished all of this would end.. or rather the feud would be over something actually worth it, but for right now Windclan just couldn't take more damage. Now with how split everyone was.

The striped tom was busy cleaning his paws when he noticed movement out of the corner of his eye. He paused midlick as he watched a kit creep closer to the entrance of camp. The warrior figured a guard would stop him but conveniently the guard looked away at the right moment. The lanky tom was quick to climb to his paws and race out after the kit, relieved to see that Nectarflower had gotten there first.

Sootstorms gaze followed Nectarflower's movement, watching his former apprentice handle the situation like a warrior with a hint of pride in his eyes. However, the slight movement of flight at the edge of his vision caught his eye, and the warrior's head snapped up instantly. Brown feathers circled above the warrior and the kit. Talons flashed as the eagle prepared to dive. To the tom's horror, his former mentor too joined the pair. No! Sootstorm didn't want to aggitate the eagle anymore than it already was, so instead he stayed where he was, calling out to Nectarflower and Pantherkit with urgency in his voice, "Nectarflower! Pantherkit! Tigerdance! Get back here, now!"

Pantherkit spun around as soon as Nectarflower's voice reached his ears. Ah, well, at least he had somewhat made it out of camp. He was prepared to open his mouth to defend himself, or perhaps even to willingly turn himself in. Honestly, he wasn't quite sure what he was going to do before another voice cut in. Sootstorm sounded panicked, but the kit couldn't tell why. Surely he hadn't gone that far. There was no need for such a fuss. He started to obediently take a step forward when the ground around him was suddenly covered in a large, dark, and winged shadow. Pantherkit found himself freezing in fear. What in StarClan's name was that? He barely had any time to process it. His little shoulders burned as a pair of razor sharp talons dug themselves into him, and Pantherkit was suddenly flying higher above the ground that any of the times that he had pounced into the air to land on a leaf outside of the nursery. There was no time to continue thinking. All the little tom could do now was panic.

"Help!" He shrieked, helplessly flailing his paws around in the air as if that would assist him in any way.
He heard a frighteningly loud cawing from above him, but he couldn't twist his neck around to see what it was. He could hear the creature's wings beating violently as it continued to carry him up, up, and away. This was absolutely nothing like the queen's stories. They had warned of foxes, land animals that would pick off kits if they went too far away from the safety of camp. Pantherkit had barely left, and this was no land animal. This creature's domain was the sky. It had an advantage that the tom would never have: wings. There was physically nothing that he could do now unless this strange animal decided to have mercy on him.

The eagle didn't care about mercy, though. It cared about food. With the kit still in its grasp, it greedily circled the remaining three warriors on the ground, wondering how it would be able to pick them off as well. It had a decision to make, and it had to act fast. It was growing hungrier and hungrier. It knew that it would have to fight if it wanted to take home the kit and the three other companions. That wasn't an issue for the eagle. It let out a bloodthirsty screech before it let go of Pantherkit and didn't even look twice as the black and gray tom tumbled toward the ground.

No... oh no.

Falling... falling... falling... boom. The sound of the collision seemed to echo in Pantherkit's ears for ages. His shoulders still burned from where the eagle's claws had dug in. He felt his limbs and his head aching from the shock and from hitting the ground from such a height. He was typically good at fighting sleep when he was tired in the nursery, but this was a battle that he had already lost. The world around him went dark as he fell unconscious. The eagle hadn't had mercy on him, but perhaps StarClan had. He still had more life to live.

The eagle cared about nothing but itself. Ignoring one prey to move on to the next, it swooped down toward the moorland and attacked the first cat that it could reach.

eagle used "talon strike" on tigerdance, dealing 7 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Sootstorm shrieked as talons fastened around the kit, and lifted Pantherkit into the air. The kit screamed, thrashing to get out of the bird's grip, and was promptly released. With a cracking noise, the kit collided with the ground. Sootstorm starred at the heap of black-and-grey fur, stunned, but before he could do anything else the eagle had already moved on to it's next target. "Nectarflower, get Pantherkit to the medicine cats! Tigerdance and I will take care of the eagle!" He ordered, throwing himself at the bird. His claws dug into the bird's back, and he shoved it to the ground, where he pinned it with a paw. This bird would not harm another fur on any of his clanmates!

Sootstorm used Leap and Hold, dealing 18dmg and -15SP

Nectarflower dipped her head to Tigetdance as he approached, her body relaxing now that another warrior had joined her. Suddenly, Sootstorm's familiar voice echoed from within the camp - a cry of alarm. She lifted her head to search for her former mentor, her eyes wide. Get back? Why? What was wrong?

The tortoiseshell wasn't about to question Sootstorm though. She whipped back around, her jaws open to grab Pantherkit when suddenly, the feathery body of an eagle darted in front of her, ripping Pantherkit from the ground and high into the air.

A yowl of horror ripped from Nectarflower's maw and the reached for the burden with outstretched claws, but it had already flown far out of reach. A single feather was caught in her claws, the only evidence that she had tried.

She shook her paw, sending the offending feather to the ground and looked up, pupils blown wide. "Pantherkit!" Then, the eagle released the little black kit, sending him falling toward the ground with a loud thump.

Fur fluffed out and ears pinned back, Nectarflower hared over to Pantherkit's project body, ignorant to Sootstorm's demands or his battle with the eagle. "I'll be back after I get him to Batsong!"She gently picked Pantherkit up, careful to avoid the bleeding puncture wounds in his shoulders.

Without sparing a glance toward Sootstorm or Tigerdance, Nectarflower tore off toward the camp, the limp body of Pantherkit clutched in her jaws. Hang on Pantherkit, hang on! She skidded to a halt by the medicine cats' den and gently set Pantherkit on the nearest nest. "Batsong will take good care of you."

It was a good thing she'd caught him before he'd gotten too far or it would've taken much longer to get back to the camp - or worse, the eagle would have snatched him up and they'd have been none the wiser.

He had heard the warning for the eagle a little too late. He watched helplessly as the bird picked up the kit and proceeded to drop him. The striped tom couldn't take his eyes off of the scene that was until the bird turned on him. Sootstorm was quick about pinning the bird, so Tigerdance was quick to follow suit in attacking the bird himself.

Tigerdance used Front Paw Strike and Swift Strike dealing 8 (+7) damage, -17 Stamina
