Ballad of Tigers and Soots[C]

Sootstorm perked up as Tigerdance arrived behind him. "Yup! There's a batch of rabbits over there!" He chirped, jabbing at the direction of the cluster with his tail. At the bottom of the slope was a cluster of brown-furred rabbits, looking no older than a few moons. The warrior waited patiently for his former mentor to give the command to start the hunt.

Sootstorm nodded, racing off to his side while Tigerdance took his. He flew down the slope, his paws skimming the ground with shocking speed. There was a blur of brown at the edge of his vision, and before he knew it Tigerdance had already caught a rabbit. The remaining rabbits scurried away in fright, and with a burst of speed Sootstorm hurled himself at them. His jaws clamped around the back of one of the fleeing rabbits, breaking it's spine in a swift bite. The other rabbits darted away to safety, but the tom had already turned away from the chase. He gave his former mentor a proud smile as he held up the huge rabbit for Tigerdance to see. It was almost as if he was still an apprentice, waiting eagerly for a praise from his mentor.

Sootstorm nodded, burying his prey beside Tigerdance's. His former mentor's praise was more than enough to send the tom into a much more cheerful mood-- more cheerful than he already was, that is. "Lead the way!" He mewed cheerfully, tail flicking from side to side.

Sootstorm nodded and padded past Tigerdance to take the lead. Just several fox-lengths away was yet another cluster of rabbits. Signalling for his mentor to remain where he was with a flick of his tail, he crept to the other side of the cluster until the prey where sandwiched between the two warriors. Eyes narrowed in concentration, the dappled tom signalled for the hunt to begin. Swiftly he closed the distance between him and the prey, scaring them straight into Tigerdance's waiting claws. He himself sought out a rabbit, leaping at it with his claws outstretched. His claws sank into the rabbit's flank, and before his prey's cry was cut off before it could even be uttered.
