Playing with Fire [Closed]

Acornstem barely contained a smirk to herself as she padded into the territory - Firefly hot on her heels. It had been a long time since the two had been given a chance to truly speak and so, she had finally decided to use her new-found power for a rare personal use...And had requested that the warrior join her on a patrol - the type of patrol, she had just happened to forget to mention. That was because Acornstem was planning on a treat for both her and Firefly - that this would not in truth be a patrol but another spar...Something she had been truthfully craving since her close defeat to Firefly moons past. She had never seen Firefly so... Alive in any other instance - the thrill of the spar both driving them to do their best. With everything that had transpired in the Clan recently, it was for the best that she offer up this distraction she felt. She needed to know more about how Firefly was handling...Events, but that was something that could wait until after the battle had been decided.

"Here we go, this should be a good spot," she meowed as she came to a stop in a clearing, glancing around. Didn't look to be any sticks or branches laying about that would pose a risk if they got carried away and went rolling...No obvious roots or undergrowth to trip them up... Yes, this was perfect!

Being asked on a lone patrol with ThunderClans newest deputy was something she hadn't expected. But it was welcome. Not a day went by that Firefly didn't yearn to spar with Acornstem again after the adrenaline rush she had felt during their first spar. She had many spars after that, but none hit that sweet spot for her.

Padding I'm silence after Acornstem, an ear flicked in confusion as the squirrel-like deputy turned and declared this to be a good spot. ...For what? There was nothing here-

Ears perked has Firefly's hopes raised. Could this be...? Her russet and black tail swished back and forth.

Acornstem noticed the change in Firefly - the perked ears, the tail swishing in budding excitement. She couldn't help but smile, a laugh escaping her. "No wonder you are wondering why I asked you to join me, and the reason is simple - I want to do something just for the two of us! I might be deputy now, but I'm still your Clanmate." She titled her head, eyes glimmering. "Which means no matter my station, I am always down for a spar. Its been moons, I want to see how the two of us have grown! I want to give us a distraction from..." A soft sigh escaped her as she shrugged sheepishly. "...Everything that has happened recently. So forget everything else but me! Its time for another battle you won't forget, Firefly!" she declared - dropping into a crouch for all but a heartbeat before she surged forward with paws outstretch.

Her eyes sparkled with energy, excitement - for how soft-hearted she might appear there was no denying the love for sparring that Firefly had unexpectedly awoken in her. She was going to give it her all once again - and who knows, maybe she would be the victor this time!

Green eyes sparkled with barely containable excitement. Her first spar with Acornstem was something that would often cross her mind when she sparred with others. None ever coming close. Firefly had definately felt that the squirrel-like deputy had been the right choice to be second in command to Mottlestar, but there had been this strange pang in her chest in realization that the molly may end up being too busy to spar like that again. Until today. There wasn't anything Firefly had to say in return to the mentioning of how rough things had been within not only ThunderClan, but in the forest as well. She was right about it all, and this would be a welcome distraction. A smile - not a grin - but a genuine smile crossed her maw at how thoughtful their new deputy was. This was leadership. This was care.

Russet paws moved her stance into a bracing one as Acornstem shot forwards, dealing the first blow. Now there was a grin. Both cats knew they were in this to win.

Firefly used Front Paw Strike paired with Thunderous Blow, dealing 13 damage and costing 17 SP.

There was the Firefly that Acornstem knew! Heavy blows struck her as she stumbled back from it - her head ringing. She grimaced - but there was a spark in her eyes as she managed to shake it off, darting forward with a playful growl. She wasn't going to let Firefly get the best of her - the warrior might have had her full name longer, but Acornstem wasn't going to go down without a proper fight! She reared back, batting at Firefly before jumping away to judge the warrior's next move.

Acornstem used Random Recall, followed up by Front Paw Strike on Firefly, costing 13 stamina and dealing 8 damage.

It was like her mind was on autopilot: subconsciously returning the playful growl that came from the squirrel-like deputy. She was enjoying this thoroughly: the immediate seriousness and determination to win on both sides. Acornstem was genuine in this, and it wouldn't go unnoticed.

It would be risky move that could change the course of this fight if not properly executed, but Firefly was rough and daring in her fighting style.

Charging forward, the russet warrior mode as though she were about to headbutt, only to slam into Acornstem and bat at her belly.

Acornstem watched as Firefly charged towards her, squaring her shoulders to brace where the warrior's head was going to meet her - only for Firefly to change course, turning to ram her with her entire side and knock the paws beneath her before a paw swiped heavily down her stomach. No claws of course, but the move still stole the breath from her as she laid there with blinking eyes. She blinked up at Firefly in surprise for a few moments before she quickly rolled onto her paws, darting past the warrior only to spin and grab the warrior's tail - pulling her off balance. She needed to try to make an opening of some sort - this...Wasn't looking great for her otherwise.

Acornstem uses Tail Yank on Firefly, dealing 8 damage and costing 15 stamina. Firefly is stunned for 1 turn.

Something odd happened when Acornstem paused in surprise, amber eyes blinking up at her. It was just a whisker in time - a heartbeat of eye contact - that made the molly hesitate.

In that split second of confusion, the deputy was on her paws in a flash, darting around Firefly and getting a good grip on her russet and black tail. She stumbled backwards, losing balance. The moment was over. Firefly was clear in mind again.

With a solid tug, her tail was pulled from from the jaws of Acornstem. Turning, a fiery head knocked into a chestnut shoulder.

Firefly used Random Recall paired with headbutt, dealing 7 damage and costing 10 stamina.

Acornstem winced as Firefly quickly recovered - she had been hoping for more of an opening as the she-cat quickly spun. She was surprised as the russet warrior went for a headbutt, barely slipping back to let the blow glance off. This...Wasn't good - she was getting tired already with how much that blow to her belly had taken out of her. She couldn't keep dodging but it was hard to find openings to strike but she tried anyways - swiping out with a paw, hoping to catch Firefly on the head before the she-cat could recover from her headbutt failing to land.

Acornstem used Dodge-and-Fight on Firefly, negating the previous damage and attempted a counterattack that succeeded, costing 7 stamina and dealing 7 damage.

Acornstem dodging had not been part of the plan, making Firefly stumble, allowing an opening for a blow to the head. Her whiskers trembled in excitement: this could be yet another desperate spar, wouldn't it? She didn't want this to end, but she also desperately wanted to see the outcome.

Muscles rippled under thin pelt as Firefly reared up on her hind legs, landing both front paws down onto Acornstem.

Acornstem's legs barley held her from the paws slamming on her head, causing her to stumble back. Her tail lashed as her eyes darted back and forth, trying to form a plan despite the ringing in her ears from the blow. This was bad - really bad. She wasn't going to give up easily - she had known it would be an insult to Firefly the first time they sparred and realized how much the both of them enjoyed it going down to the last. Her eyes flickered before she reared backwards, slamming her paws into Firefly with all of the energy she could spare - a shower of blows before she took a step back to rejudge her options with a moment to breathe.

Acornstem used Front Paw Strike, followed up by Thunderous Stomp on Firefly, dealing 11 (8+3) damage and costing 17 stamina. Firefly is stunned for one turn.

A dizzying flurry of blows one after the other forced Firefly to gather herself, her right eye squinting as a jolt of pain from recovering nerves in her scar began to resurface. Just a heartbeat of rest... Then her side of the fight would begin again.

Firefly is no longer stunned!

It was time for Acornstem to try to end it. She had to try to take a chance - recalling the blow that had turned the fight so clearly in Firefly's favor. With the she-cat still reeling (oh Acornstem hoped she hadn't struck her too hard...), she closed her eyes and used her smaller size to duck beneath the warrior, attempting to strike at her stomach but it seemed Acornstem wasn't as small - or as fast - as she hoped as her stomach was a big enough target for one of Firefly's paws to land directly on it - causing a wheeze to escape the she-cat as all of the breath left her lungs. She flopped onto her side once the pressure was off, a soft gasp escaping her before she rolled her head to look at Firefly. "All...Right," she barely managed to squeak out, struggling to catch her breath but was otherwise unharmed by the unceremonious end to their battle. "I think...You won...Just let me...Catch my breath."

Acornstem used Belly Rake on Firefly, costing 25 stamina and failing. Acornstem took 5 damage...And knocked herself out.
