singing at dawn [c]

It was a beautiful rosy morning. The heat of green-leaf had yet to smother the forest, and the songbirds were practicing in the trees. Dawnfeather moved silently through the branches, sharp claws effortlessly finding purchase on the rough bark of the ancient limbs, some still faintly blackened by the fire that had swept through the forest in the elders’ tales.

Keeping carefully to her own side of the scent markings, Dawnfeather found a comfortable perch on an old oak, settling down to watch the sun fully rise. She’d done this with many friends over the moons, and maybe the rosy stars that twinkled on the horizon were their way of showing her that they still watched over SkyClan.

Lost in her own thoughts, Dawnfeather failed to notice any signs of another cat.

'Invasion Dice' :

Copperlark drifted through the forest, little more than a cloud of thought. Her mind was everywhere, but always drifting back to the same old topics: Windclan, Thunderclan, Shrewpaw and Cloudypaw. The clan she wanted to be born in, the clan she was born in, her naive sister and the brother she had no love for. Respectively. Not that she wanted to think about them, they just always came back whenever she pushed them away.

She pushed through ferns to the clearing, but froze when she caught sight of a pretty cream-point perched on an oak tree. Oh, there was already someone here... should she leave? Copperlark took a step back, but alas she broke yet another twig for the sixth time that day. She winced. That sound was loud enough to wake a hive of bees, surely the cat would have heard her... "Hi," She whispered awkwardly.

Perhaps it was the myriad of… unpleasant memories associated with this place, but Dawnfeather’s eyes immediately turned to scan the surrounding area at the merest sound of a twig breaking. More than likely, just some poor prey animal underfoot- but not this time. This time, Dawnfeather’s clear blue eyes met the olive ones of some dilute ThunderClan tortie, firmly on her own side of the border yet strangely uncertain-looking.

“Hello!” Dawnfeather called, stepping lithely down onto a slightly lower branch with a smile. “What’s your name, ThunderClanner? I’m Dawnfeather!”
