Hawkshriek

Deep, seemingly forested green pools of eyes gleamed under golden daylight, Hawkshriek's pelt sunkissed and rippling with energy through the reeds and flaxen grass that swarmed the territory of Riverclan. They passed the soft moss scattered around the smoothened stones of Sunningrocks, yet he didn't stop, seeing as how the fish flooded towards the other side of the river in the early afternoon. He'd been assigned a hunting patrol with one of Riverclan's newest warriors—a she-cat notably sharing blood with their current leader, Perchstar. More specifically, he was walking with her daughter, Mistwalker.

They both rarely talked, other than the times when they were assigned duties together such as this one. Still, it made for a fine opportunity to get acquaintainced with her anyway, and the tom was more than glad to be able to open himself up to his other clanmates. "Congratulations on your new name, Mistwalker. I'm sure you've worked hard for it." He purred, hoping that it'd come off as more of a compliment than an awkward interjection of the silence. They stopped by the bay of a river, its crystal-clear water flowing rapidly down the slippery rocks that occasionally flickered with the sight of a fish or a few; hastily swimming downwards in search of food. His tail flicked behind him, eyes scanning the stream in search of a target to catch.

Mistwalker

“Are you listening?”

Hawkshriek had been one of those warriors that were always simply there. Somewhat in the background of Clan life, never causing trouble. It had made the newest warrior hardly notice him at times, but she herself had faded into the background. Been one of those voices that were usually second on most cat's minds, purely because they were steady. It was usually the flash of life showing its teeth that caught attention, not the consistency of a well-behaved clanmate. That didn't mean they didn't deserve attention, it just meant it simply didn't happen because something else stole it right away.

She had been happy to be able to go on a patrol with the tom. As far as her memory served, he had been adopted by her Aunt Poppy, taken under her wing and held close. "Thank you, Hawkshriek." The purr rippled out before she could even think about it, accepting the compliment in stride. "How have you been?" Now it was her turn to fill the silence. She had been content with keeping it quiet, but since he had allowed conversation to begin, she now felt the pressure to continue it. It was a simple enough question. After all, the older warrior surely had something to say. He had more tenure than her, so he was likely to have something interesting. More interesting than fighting an illness, anyways.

Mistwalker herself settled on the edge, close but far enough away to hunt from the tom. She peered into the waters herself, seeing a reflection staring back at her that she hardly recognized. Stars, she had grown. Her face matched that of her mother, certainly. For a moment, she thought back to the onyx tom she had met in the forest, by twolegplace. Her fur almost seemed to fluff like his. Shaking the thought away, it was a swath of scales that caught her attention. She allowed a few to flit closer to Hawkshriek, so he would be able to find a catch, before she herself dove a paw into the water to fish.

As she had, instead, she found teeth sinking around her paw. The warrior let out a yowl, hissing as she drew her paw back to see a slippery creature on the other end. "Where did this thing come from?!" She hissed in surprise. Instinctively, her claws went to strike back, clawing and shaking at the creature who held onto her leg.

Mistwalker attempts to catch a fish - Unsuccessful! -3 SP.
A weasel has appeared! It used Gripping Bite on Mistwalker, dealing 7 damage and using 15 SP! (1/2 Turns)

"I've been... alright." Hawkshriek smiled, nodding slowly in reply to the question. It was a lie. In all honesty, he didn't feel like himself. Not after the death of his last blood-related sibling. Of course, he still cared for Poppyshine and her kits as his own—but they weren't kits anymore, nor were they young. All of them had grown in seemingly a blink of an eye, time flying past his gaze from when he was no longer aware of it. They didn't know him as with he knew of his past siblings. Guilt still weighed in his chest when he knew he had to move on, for the sake of the clan and his own. Still, he knew better than to linger into the past once it was no longer there. Soon enough, this would just be one of those memories in his mind again. "Mostly just trying my best to help the clan around, as usual. Sorry if you were looking for something more interesting to converse upon." He chuckled.

"And you? How has warrior life been treating you thus far?" Hawkshriek hummed, emerald eyes scanning the vast waters for the sight of prey swimming under. Gleaming scales rippled under the sun, its bright reflection undeniable as he saw it swim over from Mistwalker's side to his own. The tom lunged forward, teeth snapping at the sight in front of him in an attempt to bring back prey for the clan.

A sharp yowl coming from the direction of the she-cat caught his attention, causing the tom to drop the catch by his side and snap his head back to face her. Instead of a fish, wrestling between her figure was a slippery, brown creature, its fangs clamped down tightly onto her leg. "Mistwalker!" He yowled out, hurling himself upwards, and bowled the hissing creature over with strong paws. He hoped to have had it release its hold on Mistwalker, at least, if not loosen its grip on her skin. "Weasels." He remarked, a bitter look in his eyes. They weren't anything too major for a warrior to handle, leave alone two, and he doubted the fight would go on for long.

Hawkshriek attempted to hunt Fish for 3 SP. It was a Success!
Hawkshriek used Jumping Strike on Weasel, dealing 8 damage and using 7 SP!

The creature didn't want to let go anytime soon, even as Mistwalker shook her leg in an attempt to get the blasted creature off. It only bit down harder, hanging on with ferocity and venom.

To say that the molly was particularly enthused by this maneuver couldn't have been farther from the truth. Pure instinct seemed to roil in her veins at that point, especially as she could only let out a rather strangled cry from Hawkshriek's movement attempting to get the predator off of her paw. While it seemed claws weren't working, it was time for teeth. If she bit her own leg, so be it. Mistwalker's jaws bit right around the weasel's skull, her fangs pushing in deep.

The taste of the predator was foul, to put it mildly. But it did the trick. Her stronger jaws got the creature to release its hold, and she flung it away. Far into the water. Whether or not it lived, she truly couldn't be bothered, especially as she saw the blood now dripping down her paw and staining her white fur. Adrenaline seemed to mostly be keeping the pain away....

Nope. Nope. It stung. Nope, nope nope, not a fan. Mistwalker's face scrunched into a hiss as the pain rushed in, her claws flexing from the stinging that had her almost frozen. "...We should go to camp, I need... this looked at." She looked towards Hawkshriek, forcing her face to un-contort while looking at him. He was nice on the eyes, that was for certain. "Sorry." Mistwalker wasn't entirely sure what she was apologizing for. But she felt the strong urge to do so as she rose to her paws, refusing to so much as attempt to put her leg down. The blood it was leaving on the ground would hopefully wash away quickly, it wasn't a trail she was exactly happy to be leaving.

The weasel continued to use Gripping Bite! Dealt 7 damage and used 15 stamina.
Mistwalker used Snap! It dealt 7 damage and cost 7 stamina, knocking out the weasel!

Once the adrenaline from the fight had partially washed off, the first thing Hawkshriek did was take a good look at the wound the weasel had caused on Mistwalker. He could care less for wherever its corpse was tossed out—all that mattered now was that Mistwalker was bleeding, and the strong, metallic smell of blood caused Hawkshriek to almost flinch if not for his experience in dealing with battles as a warrior.

"Do you need me to help you back to camp?" He asked, gingerly gesturing toward the particularly noticeable bite on her paw. The tom tried the best he can to be reassuring, not entirely certain why the she-cat was apologizing anyway since she was the one that got hurt; but either way, he wouldn't turn a blind eye to a clanmate who needed assistance. "You're right. And no—you don't need to apologize. Let me help you back. It's the least I can do, after all." Hawkshriek smiled, his tone unusually warm despite them not being so well-acquaintainced in the past. Perhaps it was just a brotherly instinct he had inside of him that kicked in.

Briefly turning around to grip the fish's tail from behind, he spun himself back to face her, leaning down slightly and offering his shoulder for support. "We can resume our hunting another day. For now, let's focus on getting you back to Sandyshell first." His eyes flickered back to the trail of blood, a small puddle piling under her leg as it dripped down from the injury of her paw. He felt sympathetic for the bite anyway, even if it wasn't necessarily his fault. Hopefully, rain may come later, or the river might wash away her scent of blood. They didn't need more predators advance around these parts of the river.
