Darkspirit leaped up onto the Highrock early one morning as the clan was beginning to stir. He had a ceremony to do before he assigned everyone to their patrols. He called out even as the clan gathered, knowing what was coming. "Let all of those old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a clan meeting!" He sat himself down and waited for the kits to arrive as well. Surely they knew too, given their age and all. But at least they weren't sure exactly who was getting their ceremony. The anticipation made it worth the looks on their faces when their names were finally called. Darkspirit would wait patiently before beginning though.

Copperpaw joined the crowd, her pale tortoiseshell pelt hidden by her clanmates'. Her eyes sought out a particular kit. Please let it be Shrewkit or Cedarkit's apprentice ceremony! In the past two sunrises since she had been made an apprentice, she had barely gotten a wink of sleep. The apprentices in the apprentices' den were all so much bigger than her, and other than Frondpaw she hadn't talked to any of them yet. Flexing her claws nervously, the she-cat had no choice but to wait and hope.

No matter what the call formally said, Murkyripple poked her head out of the warrior's den at the same time as she saw kits bounding from the nursery. A memory of being young enough to believe she was old enough to catch her own prey when she certainly wasn't flashed through her mind, quickly being blinked away as a yawn parted her maw. She found a place to sit, looking towards the deputy. It seemed the ceremonies came in batches, but she was rather excited for when she could go back to getting a full night of sleep.

Shrewkit bounded from the nursery at the deputy's call. Copperpaw had recently had her ceremony, which could only mean that this was her ceremony! She was excited to know that the nights where they slept in different dens were soon to end. Green eyes scanned the crowd for her sister's familiar mottled pelt, and while it took a while to pick Copperpaw out of the crowd, Shrewkit had spotted her. You can't hide from me! The golden kit was quick to squeeze her way toward Copperpaw's side, giving her sister a quick smile before turning her attention back to Darkspirit.

Upon hearing Darkspirit's call, Cedarkit clambered to his paws, curious to see if it was yet another ceremony. Surely Shrewkit would be earning her name now too, since Copperpaw had recently been named. Taking a deep breath, the kit pushed his way out of the nursery and padded further into the clearing. He spotted Copperpaw and Shrewkit already seated nearby and settled next to the two. "Do you think it's your ceremony Shrewkit?" He muttered quietly.

Cedarkit huffed and peered up at Darkspirit. Was the deputy looking at him? What did that mean? The red and white tom shook his head, trying to dismiss the idea that this could be his ceremony. He certainly was old enough to become an apprentice...but the idea seemed so foreign to him. At the very least, he would go back to sharing a den with Copperpaw. But what about Shrewkit?

Annoyed with his chattering mind, Cedarkit shut the thought process down and waited patiently for the rest of the clan to gather. He noticed a warrior - Murkyripple...was that her name? - emerge from her den and tracked her path to the center of the camp. Would she be mentoring the new apprentice? Gah! He was doing it again!

There was no proof that this was a ceremony anyway, so Cedarkit didn't know what he was getting his fur ruffled for. It could very well be that Darkspirit had something to announce to the clan.

Yes, that was it. It was just a simple announcement. The thought calmed Cedarkit's nerves somewhat and he relaxed a bit. The idea of finally being an apprentice...he wasn't sure if it made him want to leap for joy or hide in a dark cave for the rest of his life.

Once the clan had gathered, Darkspirit made his announcement. "Cedarkit, please step forward. You have reached the age of six moons and it is time for you to become an apprentice. From today until the day you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Cedarpaw. Acornstem will be your mentor." One ceremony down. Darkspirit let the mentor and apprentice get to know each other and ended the meeting.

Copperpaw could finally breathe once she realized that Cedarkit was to be an apprentice. Well, Cedarpaw. The name tasted weird on her tongue, but that would probably be the least of her concerns. "Congradulations," She purred once she was within speaking distance with the tom.

Cedarkit tensed as his name was called and padded to the center of the clearing, awaiting Darkspirit's announcement. This was it, wasn't it? It was really his apprentice ceremony! The tom's stomach turned and he clenched his jaw shut, uncertain if it was just nerves or if he really was about to vomit. He certainly hoped it was the former.

The rest of the ceremony went by in a blur and, admittedly, Cedarkit -Cedarpaw now - barely absorbed any of it. Just who his mentor was. To be honest, he wasn't familiar with Acornstem, he'd only seen her in passing, but she seemed nice enough.

The newly appointed apprentice spun around at the sound of Copperpaw's voice and he smiled shakily. "Thank you. I was more nervous that I thought I'd be...to be honest."

The red tom shook his fur out, as if banishing his nervousness, and nudged Copperpaw. "Do you think we'll be able to patrol and hunt together? Maybe practice battle moves?" He laughed softly and narrowed his eyes playfully. "I do hope I haven't fallen too far behind you."
