Poppyshine
Poppyshine had yet another kit that was ready to become an apprentice. She poked her head into the nursery long enough to tell Mothkit to hurry along, and then she took to the Willow Branch. Poppyshine wasted no time before calling out, ”Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting!”

Mothkit had been lounging in her nest considering what she would do with her day when a face appeared in the nursery, providing her with an answer.
It was happening. It was finally happening.
All of her confidence seemed to erode in that moment, her heart beating as she stood up from her nest. Her nest. It would be her final time leaving the nursery as a kit, the last time she would enjoy the comfort and safety of her nest without the burden of responsibility. Despite that, she was ready. Well, she felt she was. Mothkit shook her head quickly, trying to shake out the nerves and bounced out of the nursery with a wide grin on her face. The excitement had begun to override her nerves, her paws twitching as she bounced towards the cat that had called her, careful to not keep her waiting. Poppyshine, she reminded herself.
The tortoiseshell kit halted beneath the branch, staring up in awe. She had never attended a clan meeting, let alone one that concerned her. It was only as she stared up did she realise that in the excitement, she hadn’t taken a moment to check over her fur. Mothkit turned her head in slightly, giving her chest a few licks before raising her head. She hoped she didn’t resemble a hedgehog. None of that matters, she told herself.

Drizzlepaw had, at first, not bothered to answer Poppyshine’s call. When her Clanmates started moving towards the Willow Branch, however, it suddenly occurred to her that, yes, she was old enough to catch her own fish! The small molly loped over, sitting near the back. Didn’t she- yes! That was Mothkit! She waved her tail in greeting towards the younger she-cat, hoping she saw. Was this Mothkit’s ceremony? That would be interesting… who would she have as mentor? Who would Poppyshine assign?
This was, in a way, better than her own ceremony. Now she was calm and composed, as she should’ve been earlier. It was easier to stay composed when it wasn’t her own ceremony. Mothkit certainly looked a bundle of nerves.

Poppyshine watched the kit emerge from the nursery and she smiled. She could remember her own apprentice ceremony, and how excited she had been. She must have looked like a mess, running up with her fur all askew and tufting out every which way. Mothkit’s quick grooming reminded her of her own and she suppressed a chuckle.
When the kit was ready, she announced, “Mothkit, you have reached the age of six moons. It is now time for you to be apprenticed. From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Mothpaw.” They were short on warriors and several already had two apprentices—herself included. Poppyshine normally would not want a newly-named warrior to get the responsibility of an apprentice so soon, but they were so short-pawed that she could not afford to be picky. Besides, she knew that their newest warrior would do a wonderful job. “Your mentor shall be Egretswoop, with all of her intellect and care.”
With the new mentor named, Poppyshine got off the branch to join in with the celebrations.
It had perhaps only been half of a day before Poppyshine took her turn upon the rock, and Egretswoop was quick to find her place. The air hummed with elation, one that brought her whiskers twitching as it reverberated like static electricity. Little shocks that would zap her if she moved just right.
That elation turned near-suffocating for the brand new warrior, though, as her name was yet again called. It took her a moment to register just what it was that had been said. Oh. Oh. She voiced in her mind, the surprise even coming out in a soft prrt? before she once more rose. Still, if she was trusted with an apprentice, she must have done something right with her training.
"I will be sure to teach you well, Mothpaw." She dipped her head just slightly to touch her nose against that of the younger molly, a warm purr finding itself sounding out of her chest. For her own comfort or Mothpaw's, she couldn't quite decipher which. Not that it truly mattered - they were a team now. "I must serve my vigil tonight, but we will begin very soon. For now, congratulations."

Apprentice.
Mothpaw could barely believe that she had made it - finally, after all of those moons - to her apprenticeship.
Mothpaw.
The name felt unfamiliar in her thoughts and on her tongue as she mouthed silently. She was now Mothpaw of RiverClan, a fact she relayed continuously in her mind. There was so much to learn and suddenly, faced with that reality, she realised she knew very little, despite how she pretended. As she stared out, she felt a twinge of sadness, longing. Would her parents have chanted her name, the way she had heard others? You mustn’t dwell on those things, she told herself. Those were not experiences reserved for her, but it did not mean she would be without support. She thought of the friends she would make, the cats she could choose. Mothpaw caught a familiar face, her former denmate. Former was the wrong word, considering they would be sharing a den once more. She flashed Drizzlepaw a brief smile, not wanting to be further distracted. She quickly pressed noses with her mentor, careful to not, in her excitement, collide with her.
“I'm ready to learn.” Egretswoop’s purr was a welcomed comfort as she spoke, “good luck for your vigil.” She doubted the warrior needed luck but she wasn’t quite sure what to say.
