Larkpaw
Larkpaw had been telling himself ever since his apprentice ceremony that he had to be…sociable. It was a disgusting concept, but he knew that that leader-kit twerp had a point when she told him that he had to learn to socialize with others. Not that he would ever tell her that she had a point. But because she did…He had to make that first step.
That first awful, annoying step.
He had elder den duty along with a fellow apprentice. As they gathered moss near the river, Larkpaw glanced over at him. He had never spoken with this particular cat, but he recalled his name after they were given their assignment: Owlpaw. His mentor was the leader herself, which meant that he spent a lot of time with larkpaw’s sibling during training. The thought made his tail lash once. He wished he could trade places, so he could spend more time at his sibling’s side, rather than be taught by a warrior who got his name so recently that Larkpaw could remember it.
Anyway. Larkpaw only knew those two facts about Owlpaw. If he wanted to know anything else about him…he would have to ask.
“How has training been going?” Larkpaw ased as he pulled at some moss to unfurl it from the earth below. “I imagine learning from the leader is quite an honor.”

Owlpaw had been so absorbed in his work he almost didn't hear what Larkpaw had said. Blue eyes blinked before looking back to the moss he was gathering, head tilted downwards slightly to show he had heard the other tom.
"Training is going well. I would have to agree with you that learning from the leader herself is quite and honor, but she is also busy most of the time, so direct training from her is.. well. Rare." The tom said. He was rather proud to be Perchstar's apprentice but with it came more responsibilities. He didn't want to reflect badly on his mentor, so he would work hard. Work as hard as he could to make her proud of him. He did have a standard to uphold after all.
Once the clump of moss he was working on came free after much plucking and pulling with his sharp claws he turned his gaze to the other tom. He had to return the curtusy after all. "How is training going for you?"

Larkpaw
Larkpaw hummed at Owlpaw’s response. So it seemed that it was not as wonderful to be trained by the leader…Part of him felt happy to hear that, as it meant that he could arguably be getting better training than some other apprentices (even if his mentor was…Rowansong). Another part of him felt angry that that meant Rookpaw was not getting the best education as he should be. Rookpaw was a great apprentice. They deserved only the best of mentors.
“It is faring well,” Larkpaw replied. He wiped his claws on the grasses to free a few strands of annoying moss that stuck to them. “Rowansong is inexperienced. He had an apprentice before me, but it seemed he did not learn much. His training is slow and lackluster.” He huffed and met Owlpaw’s gaze again. “Honestly, our clan is so tiny. It could do with fresh warriors.”

Owlpaw answered Larpaw's words with his own hum. It was a shame that Larkpaw didn't seem to be getting the training he needed. He didn't know Rowansong that well but this wasn't a great impression of him to get from his apprentice. "It is true the clan is small.. but we can't exactly rush our training either. Maybe we can help each other? We have different experiences from different mentors maybe we can fill in the gaps?" The brown tom suggested. While it wasn't the best plan in the world it would help complete their knowledge of warrior training.

Larkpaw
That was an interest offer. Larkpaw tilted his head as he considered it. He was certain that Perchstar would teach Owlpaw more useful things that Rowansong would never even think of. And given how much training Owlpaw would miss, it made sense that, as annoying as Rowansong’s training sessions could be, Larkpaw would find things that he could teach Owlpaw in return…It felt like a fair trade.
“Yes. That sounds good,” he replied. He bundled up the last of the moss and gathered it up in his teeth. “Rowansong has barely taught me a thing about fighting, so perhaps we could spar together soon.”

Owlpaw nodded, relieved and elated that the other apprentice agreed to work together to fill in gaps their mentors didn't complete. "That sounds like a perfect place to start. Especially after the last gathering.. I believe with the high tensions between Windclan and Shadowclan it is on a matter of time before their aggression on us. I want to be prepared." His first gathering was a mess. There was shouting and chaos everywhere.. If he didn't have to go back he would be happy but he wasn't going to let Perchstar down.
The tom shook the flashbacks from his mind turning back to the moss he collected. "Do you think we need more moss or should we head back with what we have?" He asked before scooping up his own bundle.

Larkpaw
Larkpaw looked over the moss that Owlpaw had at his feet and he nodded. “I think this is enough. We should get back before they start to think we have wandered off somewhere.” He lifted his chin higher so the moss in his mouth wouldn’t drag on the ground, and began to head back towards camp.
