Part 1
Kittypet food. The idea of pellets that could keep him alive and provide the same nutrients as the forest could, but he wouldn't have to lift a claw. Wouldn't have to dirty his fur or run into predators; Wouldn't have to bring some bloodied mess of a rat home to prove he'd been providing anything for his clan. His curiosity begged him to go where he knew he shouldn't: Twolegplace.
He walked quite a ways to get there, with no idea if he'd even be able to return should something happen. The soft grass turned to course dirt, then to hardened stone. Trees thinned as he went, fences he easily scaled took their place and, eventually, he found himself following those very fences across rows and rows of Twoleg dens. Each had their own decorations around the perimeter and hanging straight off their dens; a few had dangling noise makers that chimed with the slight breeze. Batswarm found those to be slightly annoying. He'd avoid those dens for sure.
Hesitation met him every time he even thought of jumping off the fence and onto Twoleg territory. He would be the first to admit that he was
very scared. Experiencing new things at a rapid and constant pace was starting to make him grow weary, but as he continued his slow stalk along the thinning white fence, his stomach began to remind him why he was even here: food. Kittypet food. Those tasteless pebbles the forest cats seemed to detest.
A strange clicking noise made the young calico tom stop in his tracks.
"Here kitty kitty!" He had no idea what was being said, but a short twoleg with long hair on its head was staring directly at him.
"Pspspspsps!!" They were desperately rubbing their naked fingers together like a cricket, the very sight of it made him tilt his fluffy, muted calico head. To be quite honest... He had no idea what to do. So he didn't do anything but stand there, frozen.
Eventually, the Twolegs clicks and calls stopped. A sigh of relief escaped him as they retreated back into their den. Taking this opportunity, Batswarm turned tail and retraced his steps back to the forest. It would be a long while before he worked up the courage to return again. Until then, this encounter would remain between him and the Twoleg.
