Flying High [C]

Sparrowpaw quietly sat at the entrance to camp, awaiting her brothers and mother. She was going to take them hunting, family bonding she supposed. They hadn't spent an awful lot of time together since her siblings had become apprentices, and her mother had been doing... senior warrior things. Admittedly, Sparrowpaw didn't really know what her mom had been doing, but she knew warriors were busy, and being one of the most experienced warriors meant she was even busier. With a chilly breeze ruffling her fur, the brown she-cat smoothed it down. It was fairly early, maybe that's why she had gotten to the entrance first, or maybe her brothers were just taking their time. The breeze blowing her fur up again, the apprentice sighed, and let it be. They'd be there soon... or at least, her brothers would be before she had to cuff their ears over it.

Gait brisk and stride long, Jaypaw unsteadily rushed from his nest, unkempt fur sticking out in every direction. Not that it mattered, he didn't really care how he looked so long as it wasn't a nuisance, and everyone else would agree unless they wanted a face full of insults.

Upon approaching the camp entrance, it seemed only Sparrowpaw was ready so far. And he thought that he was running late. Greeting his sister with a light sigh, he sat down beside her, licking his good paw and dragging it over his ear. "Hey." He said, icy gaze sweeping the camp before them. He could see his siblings. Why couldn't they hurry up? They were very clearly waiting for them. "Could they be any slower? Stars, did they all get tangled in cobwebs or something?"

"Says the cat that was still asleep a few minutes ago! I was already up cleaning the elder's den!" Kestrelpaw exclaimed lightly with a playful nudge on Jaypaw as he came up behind him. It was early in the morning but he had already visited Brackenwing and Vulturepaw. Well, Vulturepaw was still asleep. But the attempt was there. He took a seat next to Jaypaw. Only remaining was Eaglepaw and Coyotegrin. He wished Shrikestar would come too. Kestrelpaw knew he was leader and all, but he was still their dad too. Coyotegrin was also very busy, but she still saw them every night.

Coyotegrin entered camp from the territory, a fresh layer of dirt on her pelt. She was trying to get the tunnels operating again, and it was a lot of work starting from fresh. Shaking out the remaining dirt, she padded up to three of the four kits joining today. "Good morning Sparrowpaw, Jaypaw, and Kestrelpaw. All three of you have grown so much. You'll be warriors soon enough and you can join me in the tunnels if you wanted to." She hoped they'd all say no.

"The tunnels? I'd love to look at them one day." He tilted his head and glanced at his siblings to see their reaction.

Eagle paw spotted them all gathered and quickly made his way over as well. The excitement he had was clearly shown in his energetic tail flicking and soft purr he had. A family day was gonna be amazing! Eagle paw glanced to his siblings with his big happy grin. Sparrow and Jay looked like they had been waiting

Sorry I’m late he meowed quickly before he was distracted by what his mom and brother kestrelpaw were saying. Tunnels? He felt even more excitement, oh this was gonna be so cool!

oh yeah! We could all go explore the tunnels together he thought about what that might be like. The darkness of them did sound a bit spooky but with his three litter mates he was sure they could do anything

Shrikestar had been giving out instructions to some of the early risers when he noticed his mate and children meeting at the edge of the clearing. Curious, he gave out his last instruction before heading that way. He heard something about the tunnels, and figured it would be nice to spend time with his family. It would also be nice to keep a close eye on them, since the remaining tunnels were still dangerous to traverse through. "Mind if I join you?" He came over to his gathered family, glancing over at Coyotegrin to make sure this wasn't a 'do not bring the leader' meeting.

The small apprentice quietly looked on as her family arrived, one by one. Of course, she gave a non-commital grunt when her mother asked about joining her in the tunnels someday, but other than that, she was quiet. Of course, until Shrikestar turned up. "You can join if you want dad, we just thought you'd be busy." Her soft voice cut through the other noise, rare enough to be something interesting. Sparrowpaw couldn't help but look up to her father. He was the leader of their clan, and she looked like him for star's sake. There was just a lot to live up to, though her siblings didn't seem to mind.

Thankfully, the rest of their family had shown up quickly and he didn't have to wait much longer. After stretching his paws out in front of him, he stood up straight and began to pad through the camp entrance when he heard a voice he wasn't expecting. Turning around, Jaypaw met Shrikestar's gaze, greeting him with a rare smile. He nodded along with Sparrowpaw's words, not feeling the need to add more; she had explained it enough. Having the leader as a dad made him feel.. cool, but that also meant that he was a lot more busy.

Figuring it was time to leave (unless some other cat wanted to crash their party), he took a few daring steps through the camp entrance before falling behind for some other cat to take lead. It had only been a moment or two of walking the moors and he quickly spotted a rabbit nearby. After muttering to Sparrowpaw that he would momentarily part from the group, he slinked away, trying his hardest to move swiftly despite his bad leg. After a quick glance behind him to see if his father was watching, Jaypaw crept closer to the rabbit and pounced. Any attempt to accurately aim his bad leg had proven futile, as instead of hitting the rabbit, his paws landed in the dirt beside it and his leg went limp from pressure, causing him to slip and land awkwardly on his shoulder. "Mouse-dung!" He cursed, instantly pulling himself to his paws. It wasn't out of pain, but anger. Anger towards the stupid Thunderclanner who had caused that lightning strike. Now his leg didn't work right, and he failed right in front of his entire family.

Seething, he returned to his family, head lowered. "I'm fine." Stars, it was embarrassing.

Coyotegrin stiffened at the fact her kits wanted to see the tunnels now when she had meant in... moons... but perhaps showing them her tunnels would prove that she actually was busy and not neglecting them for the sake of it. Besides, they seemed... proud of her or excited about it. One at a time just a little inside wouldn't be bad. When her mate joined them, she lit up. They hadn't gotten to spend much time together since he lost a life saving her. With a nod, she welcomed him into the group.

Kestrelpaw lit up as Shrikestar approached and followed suit of Sparrowpaw with a head butt. [color:14f4= #cc3300]"Shrikestar! You can see how good at hunting I am now." He said with a cheeky grin. As Jaypaw started off, Kestrelpaw left his father's side and walked next to him before Jaypaw broke off to go hunt. With a nod, he followed behind and neared his brother. He watched out of curiousity as Jaypaw stalked out and went to pounce... Only for his bad leg to crumple. The rabbit dashed away, and instinctively Kestrelpaw dashed to catch the missed prey but the already alerted and fleeing animal evaded him easily. Turning back and heading towards Jaypaw, Kestrelpaw frowned and nuzzled his brother's chest briefly. "I saw that. What's wrong with your leg?"

Coyotegrin walked alongside Shrikestar as the kits pranced around up front, excited for their hunting trip. Well, she supposed Sparrowpaw wasn't exactly prancing. Glancing over to her mate, Coyotegrin whispered in a low voice. "Has everything been alright since... the incident?"
