Redice supposed he should apologize. Not because he was sorry, because he wasn't. He had no concept of true remorse, but he'd seen other cats say "sorry" sometimes. He thought he understood the pattern. Unfortunately, the cat he needed to say sorry to was never awake when Shadowclan was, or rarely, and that the stars-cursed tom wouldn't go back to the Thunderpath. Boring. Annoying. The red tom got up especially early for a Shadowclan cat, purposely going to bed very early claiming to not feel well so that he could be awake right now. He slipped out of the medicine den easily enough, then made his way to the Skyclan border. Focused on his goals and with no real regard for these silly, sometimes inconvenient thing called "rules" he crossed without hesitation. His nose went to work right away, looking for the tom he'd nearly gutted about a moon ago. Nightstar hadn't been happy... but... not really anything else?
With a sigh, Redice tried to figure this puzzle out. It wasn't his favorite, but it was a game regardless and he was determined to win. He would try to make Shadowclan's position better today. The sun would set soon and he'd have to go back home. Could he be attacked? Yes of course, that was part of the game. It happened. But you'd never see him go crawling to his leader about it. He knew the risks and found them... exciting.
The red tom spotted a white and yellow apprentice-aged tom jumping up a tree to go after something. A bird flittered out of reach of his paws and he heard the apprentice swear under his breath. What a charmer... Redice thought to himself sarcastically. He boldly approached the other tom, not hiding his pawsteps or bothering to move downwind. "Hello, Skyclan apprentice." His voice was high-pitched and scratchy.... and the apprentice froze in place as a surge of fear scent permeated the air. Redice couldn't help but giggle. Fear-scent always made him laugh.
"Would you please bring all of your warriors here? I need to talk to a Skyclan cat I met a bit ago. It's important. Unfortunately I never caught the tom's name, but I'd know him again if I saw him." Redice proceeded to sit down and give his best attempt at a friendly smile. He had no idea how well it was working.
"Foxdung!" Falconpaw muttered as his claws missed the bird. He sighed heavily out of frustration and was about to hop off of the tree trunk when a cold voice cut through the air. Hello, Skyclan apprentice. The tom scented an unfamiliar smell... one that sometimes blew in from Shadowclan's territory... and Falconpaw froze. Where was Smokestep??? He hadn't have gone so far from her! He clung to the tree trunk and couldn't find it in him to move. He stared at the red tom with yellow eyes for several heartbeats, listening to him speak. He needed to talk to another Skyclan cat? It was important? The red Shadowclanner sat down and... uh... smiled maybe? He almost looked like he was in pain, or afraid or... Falconpaw had no idea honestly.
"You... you're not supposed to be on our territory." Falconpaw really wished he sounded braver right now, but he'd never encountered a cat from another clan before. Not to mention he was completely taken aback by the fact that one just wandered onto Skyclan territory like it was perfectly okay to do. His voice shook. "You at least should give your name if you want to speak with one of us." Falconpaw dug his claws into the tree so hard it was painful for him, but he was so scared that he hardly noticed it. He really hoped someone would hear him. ______________________________________
