Mirror Mirror, On the Wall [solo]

Moonlily's claws stretched out as she followed the well-worn path. She'd since finally moved much closer to camp, being a nest just outside the walls rather than a true stranger. Her mother's passing had been heartbreaking, but that was soon replaced by the fear that had come from being sent to the cutters. All she knew was she was grateful to be back home, to once more be reunited with Yewfrost. He was such a hardy tom, always staying by her side no matter what happened. To say she appreciated it was... really, the understatement of the century.

But even if she kept her den outside of camp, she still was a warrior and had her duties. She reported each sunrise, waiting to hear patrol assignments, or staying close enough she could hear her deputy's call. She made more of an appearance inside of camp, saying hi to more of her clanmates, learning more of their names and about them each and every day. It was nice, to come out of her shell.

At the same time, the warrior still appreciated the peace and quiet. It was what brought her to the moonlit creek yet again, the moon fittingly high in the sky as she sought its peace. Even with the icey path almost too high to be safe, she'd found its comfort long ago. Part of her wondered if Riverclan ran in her veins. But her home would always be within the trees, and the molly was more than happy with that.

As she found solace in her own company, she slowed to listen to the forest around her. It was a habit to go on a moonlit stroll and to find a piece of prey or two to return to the fresh-kill pile. After all, especially in leaf-bare, any energy she used may as well have been used for a good purpose. So she let her senses take in the forest around her, looking for her prey. It was a squirrel, burrowing among the base of a tree in some hope to stuff away its own food. Unluckily for the squirrel, she was there to grab it.

An annoyed hiss slipped out of the molly's frame as she found herself next to a twoleg trap, the rattling of the cage spooking both her and her prey. She'd have to go find something else, as unfortunate as that was. But it was no matter. At the very least, having been to the cutters had left her with an unfortunately intimate knowledge of their traps. So Moonlily continued on, moving downstream, but being much more wary of the terrain around her.

Once more, she tried to hunt. This time, a rodent, snuffling about in the foliage. Hopefully, this one would be more successful.

It was indeed much safer. Relief filled her chest as she ended the mouse's life swiftly, picking it up in her jaws to carry back. Even if it was just one piece of prey, it was already one piece back to the pile. A late-night hunt was never truly meant to take too much energy anyways, especially given it was leafbare and the twoleg traps that still littered the forest.

She took herself back to the creek, looking into the waters one more time. A deep sigh was muffled by the fur of her catch, before she pushed on home. Moonlily was glad to be back.
