Subject: Watch the Skies [Lightningpaw/Stoatclaw] Mon 23 Jan 2023 - 17:07
"Watch where you put your paws. Limb patrols haven't gotten everywhere yet, and the snow isn't going to help. We'll clear the snow that we can reach as well as keep an eye out for potential danger - or returning clanmates." Wolfblossom led her small patrol through the trees, picking a careful pathway through the branches that seemed most stable. The ground below was covered in fresh snow, as yet undisturbed by their paws. Hopefully, she thought, the ground would stay that way. Wolfblossom was careful to brush the snow off of branches that were within her reach, to keep the white stuff from piling up and threatening the stability of the branches more than the wet cold already had. Their mission today was a simple one, more in line with a typical border patrol... But from the trees. Part of her hoped that the higher vantage point would allow them to spot returning clanmates from afar with greater ease, but as the trio made their way to the great ridge overlooking twolegplace, the rocky, snowy landscape below seemed to be empty for the moment.

Though her confidence was perhaps unearned, Lightningpaw's steps were swift and sure; she followed Wolfblossom as close to step-for-step as she could manage while still trying to be helpful and clear some of the snow. There would be time for showing off and experimenting eventually, but this was important: she'd been given a chance to prove her skills, and she wasn't going to waste it.
"Wow... We can see just about everything from up here!"
She was skilled at navigating branches, but the spectacular view of SkyClan's territory wasn't something she'd had the luxury of experiencing from the relative safety of Fourtrees. She'd been sad to leave, in a sense, but she had already decided the wonders that awaited her from this new perspective were well worth it.
"Right. Be careful, clear the snow, and keep watch for anything that stands out!"

Stoatclaw followed close behind this companions, unsure of if he would be allowed to deviate from their path. For now he assumed that it was a smarter idea to stick with their carefully plotted route, and so he did placing his paws where Lightningpaw's had been moments before. There wasn't much that the two she-cats had missed, but if there were any errant patches of snow that Stoatclaw came across he made sure to sweep it off the branches. Most of his time on this patrol was spent watching the snow fall to the ground, and it was starting to make him feel incredibly useless. He had been given this role, but if he wasn't going to provide anything useful for this patrol then what was the point of his inclusion? "Hey, Wolfblossom." The tom called out. "You mind if I go off on my own? I'll stay close by, but I don't think I'm getting much done back here." He felt foolish even asking that, he really should have known the answer to that.

"It is a nice view." She agreed, "Come newleaf the foliage will be beautiful, too." It would be nice to see the gray and white surroundings broken up by shades of green, even if the foliage would also reduce line of sight compared to the bare branches they traversed now.
Stoatclaw's words caught her attention and Wolfblossom paused, glancing back toward him. "Sure. Stay in shouting distance, just in case." She mewed. "Spreading out a little wouldn't hurt."
