Sunkit's Apprentice Ceremony

The change of pace that recent events had provided was something Leopardsun could have lived without. It just didn't feel right, performing old and traditional ceremonies without being under the shadow of the Jaggedrock that had seemingly always been above them. It wasn't the first time they'd been away from camp, but that didn't make it easy.

But time stopped for no one. Regardless of the circumstances, kits would still grow older and apprentices would still become warriors; she knew that all too well.

"ShadowClan! All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, please gather around for a Clan meeting!"

Sunkit knew, of course, that these were unusual times. He knew things were out of the ordinary. However, he’d been so young when the world fell apart that he didn’t remember “ordinary”. The chaos was home to him, it had been for most of his young life. Answering Leopardsun’s call, the wiry kit stepped forward from the makeshift nursery and sat down. At six moons, he had every right to be there.

As the kit in question approached, Leopardsun let out a sigh of relief- at least this would go smoothly.

"Sunkit, please step forward."

Leopardsun waited for the kit to approach before continuing.

"You have reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From this day until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Sunpaw. Sablestrike will be your mentor- I trust that he will pass everything that he has learned on to you."

Sunpaw’s narrow chest puffed out with pride. He was the first of his litter to become an apprentice! Striding with confidence towards his older cousin, he mewed, “I look forward to learning from you.”

Sablestrike's ears perked as his name was called for the role of Sunpaw's mentor. Silently, he wished that this decision hadn't been made due to the things that he had discussed with Leopardsun, that would certainly be the last time he confided in her about anything. Rising from his spot amongst his clan members, Sablestrike padded over to his new apprentice to touch noses with him. "Go get something to eat, your training starts immediately."
