This feels familiar, doesn't it? (closed)

Silverwing had been gifted with another apprentice, which made it incredibly hard to deny the similarities between her and another warrior. It made her heart feel light in her chest, a wonderful feeling that Smallbean had indirectly given to her. She would have to be a mouse-brain to not try recreating her first sparring session, and this time it would be completely accurate. "Russetpaw, let's go! We're gonna go out for a bit!" Silverwing's adorable little apprentice always came at her call, but the problem wouldn't be her, it would be the new apprentice Fuzzpaw. She had very little experience dealing with him, but from what she had heard, he was a paw full. Nothing that she couldn't handle! Smallbean wouldn't have assigned her as his mentor if he didn't think she was capable of taming such a cat! With Russetpaw waiting in the wings, Silverwing trotted up to her new, large apprentice. "Hey Fuzzpaw, I've got a pretty fun day planned for your first official training session! Ready to head out?" Silverwing's eyes shone bright with excitement, something that easily crept into her voice.

He'd been dreaming of a truly wonderful world; one where he could eat all that he desired and no cat would stop him. A world where no one bothered him for anything; a world where he was at peace. Unfortunately for him, such a reality did not exist in real life.

Being jolted awake by some-cat talking ever-so-loudly, Fuzzpaw blinked and looked around with a squinted gaze as sunlight shown over the make-shift camp. Great StarClan, could they turn down the light for like five more minutes? He hadn't fully heard what Silverwing had said, but assumed it was something about training, seeing as though she was his mentor. So this was the day it would all begin, how wonderful.

Letting out a yawn, the plump grey tom heaved himself up out of his nest. His his thick coat stuck up every which way as if he'd just tumbled through the forest like a ball of dead shrub on the moorlands and the fur on one half of his head was smooshed perfectly flat from sleeping on it all night like a log. As he lumbered through the pile of sleeping apprentices, there was no pep to his step, no haste in his pace. The apprentice had no intention of rushing to do anything and his mentor would just have to hold her hornets.

"Food first," he mewed and as if to rest his case, his stomach let out a growl as if LionClan themselves had come roaring down from the stars above. Maybe after he ate he'd have some more energy, or maybe, just maybe, they could forget training all together and chill the rest of today. This was where the food was, so no need to go and exert themselves if they didn't need to, right?

Russetpaw was lying splayed out on her back, lanky limbs all askew. She felt like a spider, really- most of her rather inconsequential height came from her long legs, like most WindClanners. The red-pelted apprentice really hoped she’d hit a growth spurt soon- if she stayed short she- she’d march up to StarClan to demand some extra height. Surely someone ‘ad some ta spare. Heh- what if they gave her a mouse-tail of Nightstar’s height? That’d be funny, really-

Silverwing called her name and Russetpaw sprang to attention, not taking the time to lick down her pelt, and darted over to her mentor, skidding to a stop behind her. “H’im ready, Silverwing! What’re we gonna do today, eh?” Oh- nooooooo- she called for Fuzzbutt, too! No, no no no no. Fuzzkit was not gonna steal her mentor. Russetpaw narrowed her eyes as she trailed dutifully behind Silverwing, and as that grey hare-brain asked for food.

“Come on, Fuzzpaw, we c’n eat aft’r we train!” She kept her voice light, but from behind her mentor she glared daggers at the other- no, he wasn’t an apprentice. He was a kit. She’d call him Fuzzpaw just so- just to be gracious. And he wa’n’t gonna steal her mentor!!!!

Silverwing's eyes narrowed as she watched her newest apprentice rise from his slumber, showing absolutely zero enthusiasm for the training session. For what felt like the first time in her life, the young warrior felt disappointed. Apprentices were supposed to be eager for their first training session, they were supposed to love going out on the moors with their mentors, why was Fuzzpaw so... Lazy? "Maybe he's right, Russetpaw. It's still pretty early, why don't you two grab something from the fresh-kill pile. You can eat while we walk." It was as much of a compromise as she was willing to offer the spherical apprentice. If he had anything else to say on the matter, then she would have to show him why she was the warrior and he was the apprentice. Stars she really hoped it wouldn't have to come to that.

Having already made it to the freshkill pile, Fuzzpaw stared at his fellow apprentice and blinked. Eat after they trained? Did these cats want to perish out there with no food in their bellies? Apparently so...

"No..." he mewed simply in reply to Russetpaw's idea, turning his gaze to the pile. Licking his chops, he grabbed a plump mouse. Time to e- Eat while they walked?

Turning towards Silverwing with the mouse in his jowls, he let out a barely audible grunt. "Huh?" he huffed. Could they not just eat? Why'd they have to walk? Not to mention, it was soooo early in the morning, it's not like the prey were going to go away in a matter of minutes... or maybe hours...

Russetpaw huffed at her mentor’s suggestion. If Silverwing had been nearly any other cat, she would’ve questioned the decision- but this was Silverwing, who never made mistakes! ”No thanks, Silverwing. I can last more than ten minutes without food.” her voice cut, a bit, but if anyone deserved it, it was Fuzzbutt.

The red-pelted apprentice hopped from paw to paw, tail flicking as she waited with baited breath. “Come on, Fuzzpaw, come on! We don’t have time for this! Let’s go let’s go!” Russetpaw bounded halfway up the rise, then back again, quivering with pent-up energy. She flicked an ear at Silverwing, silently asking her mentor if they could go.

This was just a mess already, one that Silverwing did not want to be in charge of. She didn't like trying to be the disciplinary figure, it just didn't suit her, but Fuzzpaw clearly needed someone like that in his life. She would have to push that responsibility on someone else... "Fuzzpaw, I'm already letting you get away with more than I should. Russetpaw and I are going to make our way to the training spot, and if I don't hear your paws behind us, or see you, then I'm gonna have Shrikestar ban you from the fresh-kill pile. AND I'll tell Coyotegrin about it too." She hoped that was sufficiently scary for the kit. With a nod to Russetpaw, Silverwing began to lead the two of them out of camp. How could someone so round and oddly cute be so frustrating?

No matter how hard she tried, Russetpaw wouldn't be able to get to him with her snarky comments, for he just did not care. Ignoring her remark as well as her ever-so bubbly excitement to go and work, Fuzzpaw was able to continue eating when his mentor's comment perked his attention. Banned from the fresh-kill pile? He couldn't have that happen, what would he possibly do without his snacks?! Coyotegrin being told about him wasn't a particular worry for him, but that first part... that sent a shiver down the young tom's spine.

"Bine," the chubby apprentice mumbled reluctantly, his jowls still filled with the mouse he had grabbed. He hated training already and that hadn't even begun... hopefully the rest of it would be easy.

Maybe… maybe it wasn’t nice of her, but as Silverwing cracked down on the young tom Russetpaw smirked from her spot safely behind her mentor. Silverwing had never had to do that to her, hah! Russetpaw- 1, Fuzzbutt- 0. Actually, wait, that wasn’t right- Russetpaw- ♾, Fuzzpaw- negative ♾ points. That was more like it.

Oh, and Silverwing gave her a nod! With a brisk flick of her tail, Russetpaw followed her mentor, heart light. Unfortunately, it seemed Fuzzpaw would be following… oh well. She wouldn’t let him ruin her wonderful day with the best mentor in WindClan!

“What’re we doin’ today, Silverwing?” the red-pelted apprentice asked with excitement. “D’y’ think I’ll be made a warrior soon? I sure ‘ope so…” hopefully Silverwing would still want to spend time with her even after she was made a warrior… right? Surely- surely they could still go hunting t’gether and stuff… and hang out… Russetpaw flicked an ear in worry.

Thank the stars that worked! Silverwing could easily hear the heavy steps behind her, a relief to be sure. She was sure that Fuzzpaw wouldn't budge, but it seemed like threatening to tell Coyotegrin about his refusal to follow orders had done the trick. She would have to remember that for next time.

Russetpaw's excitement was infectious, reigniting the same feeling that the warrior had before their slight hiccup. "I had something special planned, but I have a better idea! You'll just have to wait and see, but it should be pretty familiar to you by now." Silverwing wouldn't bother with Bushface this time around, it felt like a hollow experience without Blazefang here. "You would make an amazing warrior, Russetpaw! If Shrikestar doesn't hold your ceremony soon I might have to have a little talk with him." For all that she said, Silverwing did not want Russetpaw to become a warrior. If she did that then there would be nothing tying them together, Russetpaw might even stop coming around all together. That wasn't a very pleasant thought at all.

When the three finally reached a sufficient space for training, Silverwing turned to Fuzzpaw. "All right, we're gonna be sparring today. I'm gonna show you a couple moves, make sure you watch closely. This is a front paw strike." Silverwing swiped her claws through the air. She just wanted to show him the basics, so she would be a bit quicker this time around. "You can bite, or use a headbutt, I don't want to see any blood though. That means no claws, and if you bite... Well, try not to bite too hard." Silverwing's eyes darted to Russetpaw. She really shouldn't do this, but Fuzzpaw needed to be trained somehow, and with the incident at Fourtrees she doubted he would make the first move. "Russetpaw, when you're ready you can have the first attack."

Half listening as the two of the she-cats began to make small talk, Fuzzpaw's mouth began to water with the mouse dangling between his jowls. He couldn't wait to sit down and eat this and was so hungry it'd probably be the best prey he'd ever had.

Padding along after the pair, his pace obviously a bit slower than them, the thick legged apprentice began to huff and puff. He didn't try to catch up nor did he slow down any, but he did find himself a little out of breath. Great StarClan, could they have been moving any faster? What was the rush?

Luckily for him, they finally stopped in what looked to be in the middle of nowhere. An odd place to stop, but it was no matter, for now he could finally eat.

Plopping himself down, the plump grey apprentice began to tear at his meal, his ears flicking as Silverwing began to explain something. Keeping his skeptical gaze only partially on his mentor, he watched as she swung her paw out, but it wasn't like he had really been listening at all. Was she dancing? Silverwing truly was a silly cat, taking them all the way out here to do something that could've been done back at camp.

Oooooh! Something special! Russetpaw bounded along beside her mentor, eyes alight with excitement. Becoming a warrior was her bestest dream! She didn’t really wanna be deputy, or leader, and she knew she wasn’t the type ta be medicine cat- so warrior was the best thing to happen to her! Not that it had, exactly, happened yet- but Silverwing made it sound like it would be soon!

Sparring? Oooh! Russetpaw waited impatiently, thrumming her paws on the ground as Silverwing demonstrated. Why was she demonstrating again, exactly? Russetpaw knew exactly what to do… oh. Right. Fuzzbutt.

And she got the first attack…

Maybe with any other cat Russetpaw would’ve waited to make sure her opponent was truly ready… but hey. If he wanted to eat and not pay attention to the best mentor in the Clan, that was his fault. Electric blue eyes narrowed to slits as Russetpaw dropped into a fighting crouch, tail flicking. This? Would be fun.

Suddenly, Russetpaw surged forwards, bowling the other apprentice over with a powerful slam from her shoulder, not bothering to try and pin him down. Hopefully that would be a sufficient wake-up call- it was the move she’d used against Sleeps, and she’d won that fight!

Russetpaw used Jumping Strike, dealing 8 (9-1) damage and costing 7 stamina. Moor Runner in effect (forgot about this last time lol)

One moment he was eating his mouse, and the next… he wasn’t. Everything changed when Russetpaw attacked.

Letting out a feminine-like, shrill scream of terror as he was bowled to the ground, the wind was knocked straight out of his flub-covered chest. What in the forest… Russetpaw? Looking up at what had hit him, he locked eyes with the red apprentice, who stood proudly over him. Moving his amber gaze behind her, he felt tears begin to well up in his eyes as he stared at his mouse… now covered in dirt, dust, and grass. How dare she… she ruined a perfectly good meal!

In the heat of the moment, with his heart racing and without quite thinking about what to do, he pushed himself up and did a sort of backwards-type jump. Plopping his fat gray rump straight down on top of his opponent, he simply sat on her, not really knowing what else to do. He obviously wasn’t full grown yet and this most likely wouldn't hold for too long, but still, being under some-cat’s behind typically wasn’t enjoyable for any-cat.

And then, for the acorn on top… Fuzzpaw let it rip.

'Brrrrpppp.'

Having felt a rumble deep within his stomach, he broke wind as if the moorland breeze had decided to smell like carrion. He wasn’t sure if it had been nerves or just had built up from one of his meals, but either way, it felt good to let it out. Probably not for Russetpaw who had been caught in the crossfire, but she deserved it; seeing as though she just randomly attacked him.


Fuzzpaw used Leap and Hold, dealing 6 damage and costing 15 stamina. Dice roll says… effective for 1 turn.

Russetpaw gagged, electric blue eyes narrowing to slits. Angry slits. There was an unaccustomed fury in her eyes as she shoved the other apprentice roughly off her, smacking him in the face once for good measure. She was going to murder him and stash his body in a tunnel to rot! “You disgusting creature!” she hissed, smacking him in the face again. This was less of a spar and more of a slap-fight, now, but she relished in the satisfying smack of her paws connecting with his flabby face. “You’re a complete waste of space and fresh-kill!” Smack. “You’re a revolting creature! Smack. “If I have my way, you’re never going to eat out of the fresh-kill pile again!” Smack. The last smack was maybe a bit hard, and if she’d been sparring with nearly anyone else, she would’ve apologized… but hey, he deserved it.

Russetpaw used Duck and Twist which was a success, dealing 7 damage and costing 5 stamina. Moor Runner is active, so both cats receive -1 damage.
