putting little claws to big use (c)

Marshmallow had only gotten to training her apprentice a little later than she'd like. She was starting to feel some of the later effects of her pregnancy, and it was starting to get harder to keep up with her warrior duties. Still, she had to train her apprentice, she did not want another Snowfoot... Or Snowpaw? She was still confused about that.

After speaking with Harrierpaw, she waited at the entrance, staring at the moon as she waited for her apprentice to join her. Don't cause too much trouble little ones. She thought to her stomach full of her future kits.

Marshmallow smiled down at her apprentice as she joined her. "Morning... Though most cats would call it evening." She licked her paw before drawing it back over her ears. "Alrighty, then. Let's get going." She headed off into the marshlands, glancing behind her every once and awhile to check if Harrierpaw was keeping up.

As she walked, she found herself distracted by the trees, many still slightly deformed from the flood that ripped through the territory that one night... She stared at one in particular that seemed ripped apart, but it was starting to grow more branches to replace the ones that had been ripped off by the horrifying water. She flicked back her ears, thinking about being washed away, struggling to cling to a log before falling into the watery depths.

It must be easy to forget what had happened with recent events. But the flood separated her from Froststar, and now he was dead.

Marshmallow soon realised she had stopped walking altogether and quickly snapped back to reality. "Er- sorry. Let's keep going, Harrierpaw." The watery ground no-longer went up past her shoulders in the deeper parts, though her heart still beat loudly in her chest whenever she slipped into one. Everywhere was like the deep marshes. She realised, and soon also realised she was starting to head in that direction.

Making a sharp turn, she was soon at a clearing where the pine trees parted, a great spot for training. Marshmallow made sure there was enough space between the two of them before starting her instructions. "This is battle training. Keep your claws sheathed, and try your hardest. The throat is a weak point, attacking there could kill a cat, even if you're not trying to. Avoid it. The only time you will need it is when you're trying to kill, or if you need to attack it for self defense."

She paused, stepping closer, tone completely serious and almost monotone. "A loyal warrior does not kill to win their battles." She meowed, almost as a warning. "Now, some other weak points are the belly and the ears. Another cat would never show their belly to someone they don't trust, so only go for that when you're completely and utterly sure you can." She lifted a paw to reveal her stomach a little more. "By moving to attach another's stomach, you are putting yourself in grave danger. Do NOT, and let me repeat that, do NOT go for that immediately. Going for the belly is advanced, anyway, and incredibly hard to perfect. You don't want to risk it. Trust me."

Marshmallow looked to the side, thinking about more things she could say. "Ah, and the ears. A cat can't hide their ears as much as-" she flicked her own ears down "- flattening them." She explained. "If you can, go for 'em. They tear easily. Be aware of your own ears, also." She stared at one of her paws, unsheathing her claws for a moment. "This hopefully won't happen during training, but if your claws ever get stuck in something, never panic. Attempt to retract and move your paw up, the claws should unhook from whatever- or whoever- they're stuck in."

Marshmallow sheathed her claws, setting her paw down and getting into a battle-ready position, her tail whipping swiftly before staying as still as the Jaggedrock. "That's all I need to tell you for now. Hit me with your best shot, Harrierpaw. I can't wait to see how you do."

Marshmallow watched her apprentice closely. Harrierpaw seemed to be soaking in every bit of information that Marshmallow gave her, and she was glad that her words were making sense, she was mostly glad she was being useful.

The apprentice hit her with a heavy blow- heavier than she'd expect from an apprentice, and she could feel some of the claws poking through. Are they just longer? Or is she not sheathing them properly? She wondered. Marshmallow pulled herself back, preparing for her next move. "I could feel your claws, Harrierpaw, are you sheathing them properly?" Marshmallow explained. She readied herself for her attack, moving side-to-side, crouched down. It was quite clear that she was going to attack any second now, but it wasn't quite as clear when she was going to move to attack.

Her pupils quickly expanded to let in more light, but that wasn't really such a great warning, because she was swift with her attack, allowing little time for her apprentice to notice. She launched herself at Harrierpaw, pushing her apprentice to the side with a heavy blow, but landed on her paws easily, and kept her balance.

"Be quick. You will show warnings no matter how you attack, so not only do you have to move fast to take your opponent by surprise, you will also have to watch them as closely as possible as well." She instructed, but was quick to get back into a position where she could fight back as easily as she could. "Recover as quickly as you can, do not allow your opponent get the upper paw- if you can help it."

Marshmallow used Jumping Strike on Harrierpaw! Dealing -10 HP (Harrierpaw) and -7 SP (Marshmallow)
