The sun was glaringly bright that day—but not to the point where their pelts would burn, or uncomfortably scorch with pain. Ironically, the apprentice he'd led out to introduce her to the open streams and small rivers across their territory carried the same name; Scorchpaw. Finally halting his steps at the Sunningrocks, where the sunlight was less harsh and more comforting, he paused, feeling satisfied to choose this place as their hunting spot.
"...And that's it for the territory tour. The last part we're coming to is hunting, which we'll be learning today," He smiled, taking a few steps closer to the river, "I'm sure you've noticed prey has become much more scarce recently, which is why we need to be mindful—but Sunningrocks, here, has more prey than other parts of our territory."
The tom crouched, balancing himself delicately, yet carefully to not have his reflection be obvious above the water ripples; his paws cautiously positioned in response to any shadows nearby of prey. "Watch me, and see how I hunt fish. They can be quite slippery sometimes, but you'll get the hang of it soon." Soon enough, the figure of a fish swam by—and he instinctively lunged down to swipe at it. Swiftly and easily, the fish was captured between his jaws, flung back onto land as it flopped without its much-needed water environment.
"There you go," Hawkshriek grinned, "Now you try."
(ooc: Sunningrocks have a +2 hunting chance, so your character can now hunt prey with dice rolls 1-5 instead of 1-3 in usual Harsh season!)
Hawkshriek attempted to hunt Fish for 5 SP. It was a Success!

Scorchpaw nodded at all the information she was intaking. She spotted a fairly sized toad nearby and unsheathed her claws, dropping into a low, crouching stance. Not taking her eyes off the amphibian, she edged closer and closer in an attempt to pounce.
"I'm going to catch it!" Scorchpaw muttered to herself in eagerness to catch the toad. "The dumb toad won't see me coming!" she added. She still didn't pounce, but was just a few rabbit lengths away.
Before a fury of claws could thrash through the air, Scorchpaw stopped to see if she had killed it or if it had run off. Her eyes still shared the same glimmer of excitement as before. She sheathed her claws and padded towards the spot where she had aimed, hoping to find the dead corpse of a toad instead of it fleeing off.

Scorchpaw, attempted to hunt the toad, but was unsuccessful. -5 SP

Scorchpaw pawed the ground, thinking it was the toad she was attempting to catch. She grunted, seeing the shadow of a toad fleeing into the weeds near the riverbed. "Dumb toad," she grumbled. Suddenly, she heard a quacking noise and immediately turned around. She faced the noise and froze in shock. She hadn't realized a goose was behind her this entire time! How dumb could she be? The goose charged at her, and she scrambled to her paws, forgetting about the toad. The goose smashed its beak against Scorchpaw's head. She felt the wound burn; it dug into her fur, but she wasn't bleeding. She shrieked in pain but still persisted and delivered a headbutt back to the goose. Scorchpaw closed her eyes in pain from the wound but reopened them and attempted to call for her mentor. The sunbeams still shone brightly as ever, even in leaf-fall. She knew she was too weak to defeat the goose, so now all she could do was stall and wait for her mentor to help her. "This is a disaster!" Scorchpaw thought while the goose tried to pull itself back up from the headbutt.
Goose used Beaked thrust and dealed 10 HP.
Scorchpaw used Headbutt and dealed 4 HP.
Goose: HP: 51/55 SP: 155/170

Hawkshriek chuckled, finding amusement yet empathy in the she-cat failing her first hunt. It was fine, he figured, "That's alright. There's always a next chance of catching prey around here, it's not the only one." Yet before all further demonstrations could be due—a familiar, ear-cringing, raucous wave of honks echoed out into the air—followed by a flurry of wings and feathers he was all-too-familiar with; Goose.
"SCORCHPAW! Watch out!" Hawkshriek yelped, claws instinctively pulling out from their sheathes to defend her against the beak covering its unsightly rows of sharp teeth from lunging into her head. He winced, realizing that he was a second too late; but it'd have to do better than that to waver his determination.
The tom hissed, leaping up from behind the goose to tackle it down against the large rocks lying just by the river, and forcingly pushing its head down into the rapid waters. It squailed and squawked, ruffling its feathers and beating its wings rapidly in an attempt to break free from his hold; but it was to no avail. "Quick! While it's stunned, unsheathe your claws!" He urged Scorchpaw, claws pinning white feathers securely against rough stones.
Hawkshriek used Underwater Cinch for 10 SP, dealing 8 damage. Goose is stunned for 1 turn!

Scorchpaw herself was still shocked to find the goose creep up on her. She turned back around, facing the goose and Hawkshriek. The goose was flapping its wing wildly like a deranged animal, and Hawkshriek was keeping it underwater. Before she could think of anything, Scorchpaw unsheathed her claws and raced towards her mentor. She dipped her unsheathed claws underwater and swiftly slashed the goose in its face, leaving a mark.
Her own scar still burned, and she wanted to sprint towards the camp as fast as she could to get it checked out. Maybe Hawkshriek would let her back since the conditions of the wound. She was still disappointed to find she had failed catching the toad, but that wasn't the matter right now. Scorchpaw snapped back to reality and stared back at Hawkshriek. "Should we kill it?" Scorchpaw asked, her paws unsheathed as she waited for Hawkshriek's response.
Scorchpaw used front paw strike and dealt 6 damage. -7 SP

Hawkshriek nodded, his teeth gritted as he tried to continue holding the goose down—but it squirmed too aggressively out of his grasp. Through screeching honks and annoying, puzzling flaps of its large wings; the goose managed to break free and buck away from his claws. He hissed, shaking himself out of dizziness for a moment before pouncing on the creature again; swiping at its neck this time.
Sharp claws left slash marks flying red across river-polished stones; staining them with the goose's blood. It squawked out louder this time, frantic and angered with rage. "A goose can be too dangerous. Let's try to take it out as much as we can, then make a run for it. Kill it if we can, maybe. We can't have it lurking around and causing danger for our clanmates." He glanced over to Scorchpaw, a flash of concern flickering through his eyes at her wound. Hopefully, she was alright.
Hawkshriek used Front Paw Strike and Desperate Blows for 14 SP, dealing 13 (8+5) damage!

Scorchpaw faced the goose again and gave a nod to her mentor, her eyes shining. She bared her fangs at the goose then paced towards it, ignoring its wild honks of pain and fear. It was still flapping its wings relentlessly, even though Scorchpaw knew that it was no use. The dumb goose was just wasting energy.
She snapped her fangs and felt the blood flick onto her own fur, cold, freezing blood. She definitely didn’t like the feeling. She grunted uncomfortably and shook all the blood off. This just made the goose honk louder. She’d never feel sympathy for gooses after what this one did.
The wound still felt sore and tingled her fur, but it was easily tolerated. She felt the goose’s breath shorten. It was nearly dead. Finally! Scorchpaw thought. Just a few more hits and the goose would be dead! And this catastrophe would be over and they could just move on from this unfortunate event.
She stepped back. “The bird’s nearly dead,” she meowed, looking up at Hawkshriek. But she dropped her guard down. It was too late. The goose charged towards her, quacking. She looked up and screamed to alert Hawkshriek. The goose was about to slam its wing against Scorchpaw’s head. The goose missed. She ducked her head perfectly in time and pawed her way under it quite stealthily. "I'm okay," she muttered in shock of what just happened. The goose honked angrily again, and Scorchpaw shook her head in shock, blinking quite quickly.

Hawkshriek nodded in relief, glad to know that Scorchpaw was alright and not affected too badly by the wound. There were no blood nor deep scars, but he doubted the bird's beak would've done any light damage, anyway. Deciding to risk it, he leaped down at the goose and tried to slip under its belly covered in feathers—claws outstretched in an attempt to slash at it. Unfortunately, the goose caught sight of him in time and squawked, beating its wings to stab down at his cheek with its sharp beak. He hissed out of pain, scurrying away with a glare.
Hawkshriek attempted Bellyrake for 25 SP! It was Unsuccessful. Hawkshriek suffers recoil damage of -5 damage.
