Active recovery [closed]

Although he knew that recovery should be easy and without too much strain, Smallbean had to get back to his duties eventually, but he'd start easy. Hunting was easy. Besides, he knew his limits.

Approaching an idle apprentice, Smallbean called out. "Hey, Ravenpaw." The apprentice's prefix struck a chord with the deputy. He was reminded of his late mentor. "Um.. d'you wanna go hunting? I'm about to leave, if you do." Since the deputy was trying to get back to his normal duties, why not help out an apprentice and feed the clan while he was at it? He was sure the younger tom could use the practice. He wasn't that far into his training yet, after all.

Nodding in response, Smallbean led the young tom out of camp, straying from him when he saw a flicker of movement in his peripheral. Keeping low to the ground, he recognized the figure as a rabbit. With a last look over his shoulder toward Ravenpaw, he darted from where he was crouched, claws outstretched toward the rabbit. Within one swift movement, he closed the rabbit between his paws and his fangs met it's neck, and it was over before the rabbit was even aware of what was going on.

Smallbean didn't know what was worse; the uncomfortable silence that had followed them there, or the awkward conversation that would have filled the silence if he had decided to speak. As much as the lack of communication bothered him, Ravenpaw hadn't seemed particularly bothered. It was uncommon with apprentices, at least in his experience, to not say anything. Most of them had some kind of question, or would be excited just to get out of camp. Ravenpaw seemed different, though. Maybe he simply wasn't excited by the duties of a warrior.

Raising his head from the rabbit, Smallbean shifted his thoughts to the current objective. This was a hunting patrol, not one of the walks he takes to process his thoughts. Sighing, he grasped the rabbit between his jaws and scanned the moors, seeing Ravenpaw heading his way carrying a rather large rabbit. Meeting the apprentice halfway, Smallbean tucked the rabbit beneath a small overhanging bush. "Nice catch, Ravenpaw." He commented, hoping it was enough praise.

Looking past the apprentice, Smallbean spotted a small group of rabbits further off, only two. "Hey..." He said, voice hushed. "Do you want to go catch those? I can go around and get one from the back if you want to get the closer one." The deputy gestured to the far off rabbits with his tail, slowly creeping in their direction before he suddenly diverged from the path. Whether or not Ravenpaw was assisting, he would catch one of these rabbits. Staying low, he crept through the tall grass, staying a far distance away from the rabbits until he was on the other side of them, looking at the two creatures from the other direction. Neither had seemed to notice him yet, thankfully. With a subtle flick of his tail, hopefully enough signal for Ravenpaw to understand that he was going in for the kill, if the apprentice was going at all, Smallbean broke form his crouch, darting from where he previously was. He quickly closed the stretch of space between himself and the rabbits, outstretched paws reaching for the rabbit. It seemed the rabbit had noticed the deputy and darted out of the way just in time before seeking refuge in a burrow nearby. Smallbean let out an annoyed groan.
