Daykit's Apprentice Ceremony

Camp was especially crowded today. Most of the patrols had come back early, and with the sun sitting high in the sky, various cats were stretched out across the clearing, sharing tongues between each other or sitting quietly by themselves. Some of the cats sat alone she recognized as ShadowClan's warriors. Birdchaser couldn't help but wonder if they were grieving. She almost hesitated to bother them, but she'd already mounted the Tallbranch– maybe a celebration would ease their minds, anyway. "Let all cats old enough to climb a tree, gather beneath the Tallbranch for a Clan meeting!"

Daykit's eyes tracked the deputy as she made her way to the Tallbranch; he wasn't sure if it was the weight of whatever heavy something that had been settled over the camp, or if it was his imagination that he saw in the line of her posture, but all the same there was an odd sense of anticipation ringing through him, too.

Were all ceremonies like this, he wondered? He wasn't old enough to recall. He wasn't sure if Stoatkit and Beechkit's apprentice ceremonies felt slightly different than they should - if his, when it happened, would feel the same.

Daykit made his way over to the gathering spot and sat, prim, with the other younger cats. His ears pricked and tail twitched, and he simply took it all in.

Soon enough, the kit she was waiting on appeared in the crowd. His fur was groomed flat, and he looked attentive, like he knew what this was for. That, or he was just eager to participate in Clan life. Birdchaser nodded towards him, flicking her tail to beckon him forward. "Step forward, Daykit. You've reached the age of six moons, and it's time for you to become an apprentice of SkyClan. From this day on you'll be known as Daypaw- your mentor will be Crimsonflame." She paused, searching the crowd for the older warrior. She wasn't sure how she felt about him, but it seemed like Briarstar trusted him. "I'm confident that he'll teach you well."

Oh, it is for me.

Daykit -- Daypaw, now, he was Daypaw - immediately stood, eyes slightly wider than they had been before. Six moons, already? Should I thank her? It couldn't hurt.

"Thank you, Birdchaser." He dipped his head the way he'd seen his mother do, striving for her grace. "I'll do my best!"

Daypaw turned his head, searching for the tom with the distinctive red-streaked tabby coat. Crimsonflame was one cat he knew very little about, but he did understand that he had a strong personality. A significant part of him brimmed with excitement, if only to see what fascinating things mentoring with him would bring.

Crimsonflame walked out of the crowd, bringing his nose down to touch to his new apprentice's. He had trained Briarstar's own daughter rather well, he was certain Daypaw would be no problem at all.

"We will train at sunrise. Take this time now to get settled in your new den, I will fetch you tomorrow."

And with a final nod, as well as a small smile of encouragement, Crimsonflame padded off to do his own thing for now.
