Subject: Blossoming Dandelions [c] Tue 16 Aug 2022 - 20:11
Dandelionflight bounced through the forest and watched the leaves rustle in the wind. She wished she could sit and watch them, but duties were to be done. Wolfblossom and her had been assigned to patrol together! Admittedly, she didn't know the other molly well, but that just meant more opportunities to do so. "So, how have you been?" she questioned with a smile. Dandelionflight hoped that she had been faring well.
Wolfblossom padded after her clanmate with a cheerful wave of her tail, happy to be out of camp. Wind ruffled her fur and scattered a few leaves in their path, but she welcomed it. It didn't seem to be as grossly humid out today, which suddenly made everything more tolerable.
"Well enough, I suppose." Wolfblossom responded, "I'm glad Crowpaw is back." Unsaid, she still missed Beechfang, and even more, Dovefrost. She couldn't quite bring herself to blame Briarstar for her mother's exile, and Beechfang had committed a rather heinous crime, but it was still her mother wandering twolegplace now. She didn't know if Dandelionflight had known Beechfang well or even if she liked her, and knowing her mother was rather... polarizing to say the least, Wolfblossom simply chose mention it. And then there was the Shadowclanners staying in the territory, but who wanted to focus on that when this was just a patrol of Skyclanners? Wolfblossom didn't necessarily hate them, but she liked the peace of interacting with her own clanmates.
"What about you?" She asked, eyes drawn towards a rustling in the branches above. Squirrel, she realized, and made her way into the branches with a twitch of her tail. The squirrel, it seemed, wasn't paying attention to the danger lurking from below at all, and Wolfblossom quickly sank her fangs into the creature's neck to cut off any noise before it could start. Pleased with her catch, she made her way back to the forest floor.
"I've been pretty good!" Dandelionflight excitedly meowed. She had been spending a lot of time with Splashleap, and her heart fluttered a bit when thinking of him. "Frostbite's become a warrior, too," she happily added. She was proud of her former apprentice. Â Wolfblossom disappeared into the treetops and returned with a squirrel soon thereafter. "Nice catch!" she commented and went in search of her own prey. A mouse scuttling through the undergrowth alerted her, and she set off to find it. She saw the waving of grass stalks, and she prepared to pounce. She leaped forward, and the mouse darted forward. She reached out a paw to stop it, but it was just out of her grasp. It slipped into a burrow and she got up with a sigh. Oh well, she thought.
"You must be proud, as a mentor. Thornstalker's a warrior now, too." Wolfblossom replied, proud of her former apprentice for earning her warrior name, "It's good that Skyclan's numbers are growing strong." She added. Dandelionflight had gone after a mouse, but missed. Wolfblossom wouldn't comment on it, though. They couldn't catch all their prey, after all, and mice were tricky to catch. Turning, Wolfblossom searched for a bit, coming across a squirrel on the ground in search of its' own food. Carefully, she crouched and crept forward.
The rush of air above was the only warning she had before talons dug into her back and shoulder. Wolfblossom yowled in pain, widening her stance and crouching. She was a large cat and the eagle would have a difficult time carrying her off, but that didn't mean she couldn't make it even harder for the eagle to do sol. Twisting, she lashed out with unsheathed claws and a hiss.
Wolfblossom attempted to catch a squirrel for -3 sp. Catch was unsuccessful. 114 / 120 sp
A wild eagle has appeared!
Eagle used Swoop on Wolfblossom for -15 sp, dealing -9 damage. Wolfblossom used Front Paw Strike on Eagle for -7 sp, dealing -8 damage.
Dandelionflight had left to find something else to make up for the missed mouse. She ran back to Wolfblossom, though, at the sound of trashing and a yowl. An eagle had taken hold of her patrolmate! She rushed toward the fighting and clamped down on its wing. She struggled to keep her grip but managed to keep it from gaining any more air.
Dandelionflight used Snap, dealing 10 damage and costing 7 SP!
Wolfblossom had no time to acknowledge that her clanmate had joined the fight. The eagle hadn't taken kindly to being attacked, and talons ripping down her shoulder brought with them both pain and a fresh wave of anger. Kicking off the ground with a growl, Wolfblossom's paws caught a low-hanging branch as she twisted to face the eagle. Muscles bunching, she sprang at it, knocking the big bird to the forest floor and raking her claws across its' back and wings.
Eagle used Talon Strike for - sp, dealing - damage. Wolfblossom used Leaping Bound for -10 sp, dealing -7 damage. Eagle is pinned for this turn.
Wolfblossom managed to get out from the eagle's grip and now had it pinned to the ground. Dandelionflight let go of its wing and spit out the few feathers that got stuck in her mouth. She reared up and brought down her paws on the eagle's head, clawing at its eyes.
Dandelionflight used Upright Lock, dealing 12 damage and costing 10 SP!
Dandelionflight had slammed her paws over the eagle's head and raked at its' eyes for good measure, and Wolfblossom slashed at the bird once more, watching as it finally stopped struggling beneath the paws of the two warriors.
Adrenaline had kept her going through the fight and was starting to wear off, she could feel the pain in her shoulders where the eagle's talons had dug deep. "Thanks, Dandelionflight," Wolfblossom panted, glancing at her bloody shoulder with a sigh. "I get the feeling my siblings are going to fuss about this back at camp." She muttered ruefully. They were medicine cats, it was kind of their duty to fuss over the injured, but the thought rankled just a little. "At least we're not completely empty-pawed?" Hopefully that would be enough to sooth the sting that having a hunt cut short because of predators included.
Wolfblossom used Front Paw Strike for -7 sp, dealing -8 damage. Eagle is dead.
