Beetleshade poked her head out of the warrior's den, feeling energized after her mid-morning nap. The sun was beaming heavily down onto the camp, creating a stuffy, uncomfortable heat. Though honestly, it was more annoying than actually bothersome.

"It isn't even sunhigh yet, why in Starclan's name is it so hot?" Beetleshade hissed grumpily under her breath, resisting the urge to turn around and climb back into her nest. While it was an appealing idea, she'd rather not have to deal with some pompous old warrior telling her she was slacking off on her duties. Beetleshade rolled her eyes at the thought. Speaking of duties, while she personally thought it was too hot to do anything other than sleep, she'd rather go back to being an apprentice than spend all day in camp.

She yawned, stretching out her sleep-stiff muscles before slipping out of the warrior's den. As she made her way toward the camp entrance she realized she should probably at least ask if anyone wanted to join her, considering the fact that she barely interacted with her clanmates. In her defense, most of them got on her nerves, but she'd rather not have them think she was like, anti-social or something.

"I'm going hunting, anyone's welcome to join!" She called out in the general direction of her clanmates. "Or don't..." She added quietly. Either way, she was still going hunting, so she really couldn't care less if she was accompanied or not.

Having long fur, Foxglare learned, was almost never an enjoyable thing to have in Greenleaf. The sun beat down through any gap in tree leaf it could -which, apparently, it found a great deal -warming all ground that was unfortunate enough to receive. She hadn't much to do in camp, either; none of the dens were in disrepair, and the apprentices took care of anything else that might need doing. Foxglare was simply laying in what little shade remained in the ravine.

Then, Beetleshade called for hunting. ..Foxglare gave a small shrug, making her choice quickly enough. The camp's air was only going to bake her further- might as well help the Clan, as well as possibly stay cool within the more shaded forest. Standing, the ginger tabby gave a simple call to the short-furred molly: "I'm coming with." Foxglare hadn't spent much time with her sister since kithood; and though some memories from then painted the calico as somewhat mischievous, perhaps she'd simply judged Beetleshade too harshly.

Beetleshade was surprised by Foxglare's offer to join but kept her gaze carefully blank. She and Foxglare hadn't spent time together since they were kits, though that didn't necessarily bother her. She knew if it came down to it she would do anything for her family, even if the ginger molly had annoyed Beetleshade when they were younger. Of course, it wasn't Foxglare's fault she'd always been a bit of a goody two-paws, but it didn't exactly make her the most fun to hang out with. At least, not by Beetleshade's standards. After a moment of waiting to see if any other cats wanted to join, Beetleshade led the way out of camp with a flick of her tail.

"Let's try over by the stony hollow." She suggested "I haven't hunted there in a while."

Once they reached their destination, Beetleshade immediately headed off to investigate a mouse trail. It seemed the creature had made a nest in a crack between two stones, and she crouched nearby with her eyes trained on the shadowy crevice. Good things come to those who wait, as the old proverb says, and it couldn't have been more true when after only a few moments a small head emerged from the hole. Beetleshade squared her haunches, leaping forward to pounce at the unsuspecting rodent. It seemed the odds weren't in her favor though, because as soon as she prepared to strike the wind shifted, carrying her scent straight to the mouse. It let out a squeal of terror and disappeared, leaving Beetleshade empty-pawed and more than a little irritated.

Beetleshade attempted to catch a mouse... The catch was unsuccessful!

Stony hollow; Foxglare wasn't entirely familiar with the place- as an apprentice, she was strictly disallowed there; the danger of floods and snakes too great. And as a warrior.. she simply hadn't chanced a patrol there. But considering Beetleshade would suggest it, Foxglare doubted it'd be a boring location to hunt.

Foxglare didn't have as much luck as her sister; finding no scent soon after their arrival. The ground was dry from heat. Had most prey already hidden away in their borrows or shade? Almost ready to retreat from the search, she caught a flash of green upon part of the hollow-- a single lizard. Unlike the furred or feathered prey; it seemed to actually be enjoying the blazing sun. It laid comfortably and, apparently, unaware of the ginger tabby beginning to stalk it. The warrior still had to be careful. All the crevices led to far too many possible escape routes. It might not be a fat crow; but the fresh-kill pile would appreciate any catch.

Bunching her legs up, the warrior readied her pounce; about to release when a musky smell filled her senses. Confusion held her first- but searing pain came quickly to replace it. A sharp hiss escaped the she- twisting; she tried to pinpoint the pain, and eyes met with a spray of grey and red fur. Kicking off with her front legs- she rammed into the creature. Vaguely, Foxglare realized the red wasn't from the predator- but all her thoughts past getting that thing away were murky. Luckily, even in her dazed state, the blow landed. Adrenaline alone fed her next move. Rushing toward the raccoon (with one leg instead half limping behind,) Foxglare slammed down her paws onto its head with all the weight she could press.

Beetleshade had stomped off after her catch had been thwarted, only to race back toward her sister at the sound of fighting. She growled in annoyance at the sight of the raccoon, internally cursing her terrible luck. First she'd missed the catch, now this? They'd be lucky if they brought home even a morsel of mouse after the way this patrol had gone downhill. Beetleshade darted in, raking her claws across the creatures pointed muzzle, relishing the feeling of fur and skin tearing beneath her claws.

Foxglare clenched her jaw, and with claws spread out, pressed a rake into the dazed predator. A last gurgle and spasm came from the raccoon.. Finally, though, the creature fell limp beneath her paws.

With no more adrenaline, and battle over, Foxglare unfortunately could focus upon her leg. Waves of pain became more clear, tearing through the limb- quickly Foxglare pulled it firmly toward her own belly, but the action only led for another burning jolt. At.. least she could feel it. She was no Medicine Cat, but hopefully that meant the raccoon didn't permanently put it out of use..

"..Thank you," the warrior mewed, remembering the presence of her sister. The animal would've likely done much worse than a hurt leg, had Beetleshade not helped. She gave a small wince; "I.. think I'll need to see Fawnshine or Eggdrop." Foxglare didn't even want to take a look at the limb, let alone hunt in such a condition. A grimace painted the tabby's face; Stony Hollow was somewhat close to camp, but the journey back would still be unpleasant..

Beetleshade watched as the creature fell to her sister's claws, an eery silence settling over her. Was she imagining things, or was there something... gratifying about watching the life drain from the troublesome creature's eyes? For some reason, she found herself wishing that she had been the one to deliver the final blow. Her claws flexed as she stared absently at the crumpled body. She looked up as Foxglare spoke, a distant look in her eyes.

"No problem, I... I know you'd do the same for me." She muttered distractedly. She moved beside Foxglare, allowing the long-furred molly to lean against her shoulder to take some weight off of her leg. The wound was already pretty grizzly, it wouldn't help if she made it worse before the medicine cats even had a chance to take a look at it.
