It was cruel of his sister to name one of her kits after their dear departed mother. Not that he didn't know the sentiment and respect she intended to give to Murkystar by naming her kit after her, but it just felt... too soon. He could feel his chest tightening at the thought of it. Nightstalker tried his best to shake away his ill feelings before jumping onto the rock, this wasn't about him and his feelings, and this kit was innocent in it all, how he acted would impact her ceremony and if he didn't treat her like everyone else then memories would be made... less than stellar ones. He was sure kits could pick up on that.
"All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, gather in the shadow of Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!"

Murkykit knew it. She knew that today would be the day she'd finally get a new name and a mentor, and she would grow to become the best warrior Shadowclan could ask for. She ran towards the front of the crowd, her yellow eyes blinked up at Nightstalker. The deputy and her uncle! She was confident the black tom knew what he was doing, and would choose the perfect mentor to train her.
So she lifted her head up high, bright eyes shining with confidence and a bright smile grew on her maw.
Once he was happy with the amounts of cats gathered, he started his announcement. He hoped that Harechaser would be the perfect fit for Murkykit, both in spirit and in skill.
"Murkykit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Murkypaw. Your mentor will be Harechaser. I hope Harechaser will pass down all she knows on to you."
"Harechaser, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You are an excellent warrior and you have shown yourself to be loyal and dedicated. You will be the mentor of Murkypaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Murkypaw."

Harechaser hadn't expected her name to be called during the ceremony, a look of surprise on her face that quickly changed to a smile as she padded forward. "Congratulations, Murkypaw," Some might've thought it strange to mentor a cat with the same name as her mother, but Harechaser had no strong memories of Murkystar's ghost to be upset by the choice. And Murkypaw was her own cat, anyways. One that wouldn't suffer the same fate. "We'll start training tonight, okay? You can get your new nest set up and get to know your new denmates in the meantime." She mewed, gently touching noses with the smoky tortoiseshell.
