Lightkit's Apprentice Ceremony

Nightstalker was nervous, but he could also feel the thrum of excitement under his skin. He'd be doing his first apprentice ceremony today, a little kit known as Lightkit. It was an odd name to give to a Shadowclan cat, but he had made sure to watch this kitten and her littermates to see their personalities. He hoped that the cat he had picked, would suit the she-kit just fine as she grew into her paws and spirit as a warrior. But Nightstalker had to make the announcement. Striding to the Jaggedrock, he leaped onto it with a grace that was almost natural. He was afraid he'd slip and lose his grip, but compared to Froststar who made it look extremely hard, it was a lot easier for a cat as tall as himself.


The young deputy took a moment to admire the view below him, savoring it as while he knew he'd get used to it, and be doing this plenty in his time, this would be his first time seeing this view for... the first time.

"All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, gather in the shadow of Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!"

Snowfoot smiled as she heard the call. Giving her squirming daughter one last lick, she stood up. “There. Now why don’t we go see what that’s about?” she mewed playfully. Lightkit looked at her mother, confused, as the two stepped out of the nursery. “But why did you only make me take a bath? Why not Deerkit too?” Lightkit inquired. She didn’t bother to ask about Slugkit, one only had to look at him to know that bathing was pointless. “You’ll see,” Snowfoot said mysteriously as she sat down, the silver tabby beside her.

Fuzzypaw walked to the Jaggedrock, enjoying the sun. Nightstalker looked proud, like he belonged up there. He would be a fine deputy.

The tom looked around as cats gathered. Perhaps a ceremony?

Nightstalker looked down at the kitten that padded forth, obviously a bit confused, if he could have, he would have laughed. "Lightkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you will be known as Lightpaw. Your mentor will be Dappledlight. I hope Dappledlight will pass down all she knows on to you."

He turned to Dappledlight, the cat he had chosen personally to be Lightkit's mentor. "Dappledlight, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You are an excellent warrior and you have shown yourself to be attentive and loyal. You will be the mentor of Lightpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Lightpaw." Nightstalker didn't jump from his position on the rock, instead taking the moment to watch the new mentor and apprentice duo meet.

Dappledlight watched as the ceremony progressed and stood a bit taller when she was mentioned to be the mentor. It seemed that Snowfoot's recommendation worked. She walked over to where Lightpaw was sitting and touched noses with her. "I hope you're ready to begin training," she meowed to her new apprentice.

A shiver of anticipation ran through the newly named Lightpaw as Dappledlight approached. So she would be her mentor. Okay. She’d heard good things about Dappledlight. After she touched noses with her, she smiled in response to Dappledlight’s statement. “You bet!” she mewed.
