Whisperpaw
Whisperpaw did not have much to do at the moment, and was feeling too tired to go out anyway. They didn’t want to be completely useless today, though, and so they’d gone just a little way outside of camp to retrieve some fresh grass for bedding. Whisperpaw had not spoken much with the elders. They spent most of their free time sleeping instead of socializing. They knew that elders had a reputation for being good, seasoned cats who told stories to the young and had earned gentler treatment after their long lives—surely WindClan’s elders were just like that?
They arrived at the elder’s den and walked in, grass in their mouth. They spotted some elders resting in their ness and walked over, setting the grass down. “I’ve brought some fresh bedding,” they mewed, voice low. “Would anyone in particular like some?”

Batsong had finally gotten the med den somewhat organized now. The herbs in neat piles and restored it to a somewhat stable state. Since burning's disappearance she felt so overwhelmed by having to try and catch up on all of the herbs uses and how to heal different things.
She sighed looking at all the things she still had to learn. She felt so underqualified to be doing this but at the moment she was the only med cat that the clan had and she knew that the sooner she could become somewhat decent at this the better off they would be.
She recited in her head the herbs that lay before her and their uses practicing them all. She grinned a little as she got through them all recalling their names and uses.
She then tried to close her eyes and do it just based off scent.... That was much harder and she immediately got confused and messed them up.
Getting up she took some Comfrey Root and walked over to the elders den to check up on them.
She was pleasently supprised finding Whisperpaw there. They were changing out the bedding. How thoughtful of them. She grinned around the herbs she brought.
"h-hello" she stuttered quietly.
"I h-have brought you something f-for if your joints are sore or s-stiff" she meowed quietly.
"It is .... ermm uhh" she blanked looking down at the herb by her paws.
She knew this was the right herb for it. And she knew that it helped with joint pains and was great for elders for its joint soothing ... but what was the herbs name???
She felt so embarrassed... she literally had this minutes before now...
How was she supposed to take care of all her clanmates when she couldnt even remember things like this. She felt terrible...
Windclan deserves better than you Batsong! she scolded herself in her mind
she glanced sheepishly at all the elders who were probably staring at her now and wondering how in the world she was supposed to be the med cat.
Its not my FAULT that we literally have no one around to officially mentor me... I have had to learn all this on my own she fumed in her head just sure that they would never let her hear the end of this one.
However, she managed to keep collected outwardly at least. "u-um... p-perhaps one of you k-knows its n-name? she asked in a quiet shy stutter.

Moorbite stopped mid-story rambling to his love and the flea-bag, aka Mintheart and Stumpytoad, when a slender kit walked in. "Eh." He grumbled. "About time someone thought to care about us. Almost thought Shrikestar was making the whole clan give us heros the cold shoulder!" He started to ease himself up when another kit, a solid black one, came in. Smelling of herbs, she stuttered relentlessly. The grumpy tom rolled his eyes and scowled. "It's comfrey root. And stop stuttering, you sound like a broken-down monster. The rotting corpse of my father could speak with more confidence." His bones creaked as he sat down away from the nest for the lanky apprentice to take care of it.
"When there's nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire."

Stumpytoad was growing a little annoyed by Moorbite as he told one of his annoying stories. As if Stumpytoad wasn't there.
And he was telling it wrong.
"That's not how it happened! I completely saved your tail, you mouse brain! You would have been crowfood!"
Then two young cats had walked in, interrupting Moorbite's ramblings. He liked them already. And clearly the mouse brain did not.
"Lighten up on the kits. Not their fault they ain't got the mentors we had. Cats don't know how to train these days. Poor scraps got to suffer because of it."
His eyes met those of Whisperpaw, and immediately widened.
"Great StarClan, what are they doin to ya, kit? How did ya survive an injury like that with a medicine cat like her? And ain't they feedin ya? Stars, this Clan really is fallin apart!"

Batsongs ears went flat against her head as the elders both criticized her. She wanted to shrink away into nothingness at that moment. Her worst fears of not being good enough for her clan were coming true.
Moorbite having to remind her of the herb name was humiliatingly low for her. She felt so unsure of herself.
(She didnt mind the comments of her stutter... she was used to being the weird one who couldnt speak well. She had that since birth and had grown used to it.)
She had done well as a warrior, had defended her clan and when no one else wanted to try and take on the responsibility of med cat she had offered to do her best to starclan. She was trying her best but it felt like she was still floundering in it all. The transfer had not been easy and with no formal mentor alot of it was self taught with a little help here and there from Smallbean.
She wanted to just disappear to just not have all this stress that was over her. She wondered if starclan had made a mistake giving the fumbling stuttering mess of a cat she fealt like the posiiton of med cat.
She was not one to easily show her emotions so outwardly she didn't revile how much this hurt or how awful she currently felt . She was always so reserved and closely guarded such things.
However, then Stumpytoad added on more :
"How did ya survive an injury like that with a medicine cat like her?"
This cut deep, the words ringing in her ears. She cared about whisperpaw so much and the injury that the dark forest had given them haunted her so much. Did whisperpaw blame her for this too?
She looked to whisperpaw, seeing the scars they had was more than she could take. For the briefest of moments she let her guard down and she revealed the pain she felt inside and the self doubt she felt with her facial expressions.
It flashed by quickly and luckily she was able to regain her control.
She quietly prepared the comfrey root for their joints and composed herself well from here on out.
"h-here this should help w-with joint pains" she said quietly and quickly.
Once that was seen to she quickly darted out of the den before she totally would lose it if she stayed longer

Whisperpaw
Whisperpaw nodded to the elders and moved to begin changing out their bedding. They began with Moorbite, as he moved out of the way first. They shook their head in response to Stumpytoad’s exclamation and their ears twitched as Batsong got berated about the comfrey root. They looked over their shoulder to Batsong, but she was out before they could call anything to her. They knew that Batsong was really struggling in her new position as medicine cat, and they wished that others would take it easy on her.
“Please, don’t be so harsh on her,” they mewed to the elders. “She’s doing her best. There isn’t anyone she can learn from directly. She’s been helping the clan a lot, though.” They looked back to the bedding and arranged it carefully in the nest so no hard reeds from the underside would poke through against Moorbite. With that nest done, they moved onto the next.

Moorbite grumbled at the white apprentice with the quiet voice. "Bah!" He scoffed, settling back down into his nest next to Mintheart's. "If WindClan is going to be around before I finally die, you kits need to harden up. My words are nothing against what we faced when I was a 'paw! ShadowClan spit the harshest insults." He shuffled around in his nest, clearly not the most comfortable. It was his joints bothering him, not that he'd ever admit it.
