The sun was unforgiving on this day. Rain hadn't touched SkyClan territory in what felt like moons, drying the beds of pine needles into nothing more than sharp, dusty fire hazards. Yewfrost had elected to a border patrol on the rare stretch of river that separated them from RiverClan, in a bid for any sort of relief from the overbearing heat. He casually dipped away from the rest of the patrol and padded down into the bank. It was a good deal lower than usual, but the river itself still flowed swift. He could spy a few large fish in the middle, yet what good were they if he couldn't reach them? Besides, he'd never eaten one in his life, he wouldn't know how to properly eat one in the first place. The tuxedo tom followed the water a short ways, doing his duty as a member of the patrol by looking for any suspicious pawprints pressed into the cracked mud. Coming upon a still patch of water behind a boulder, he dared to dip his paws in. Ah, that felt nice between his toepads. Bending his head to take a drink, he relished in this brief quiet, with only the river to remind him that time had not stopped. He stood there for a while with his eyes half closed. Like all things though, his solitude was cut short, as he'd spotted a colorful pelt on the other side of the river. A RiverClan cat, perhaps?

Poppyshine
Poppyshine enjoyed her walks out into the territory. They had become commonplace on days when he didn’t have a patrol of her own to take part in. Since the disappearance of Pipitpaw, Poppyshine had a lot more time on her hands…She hadn’t addressed her own thoughts on the absence of Pipitpaw. She didn’t know how to.
Shaking thoughts from her mind, she arrived at the river. The river wasn’t quite so terrifying to her anymore. She’d gone there on multiple occasions, both by herself and with other cats. She was older, she was more experienced. Sure, Poppyshine still didn’t know how to swim exactly, but she was sure that she could manage it. Not that she would have to manage it. She was just here to fish. Nothing more.
Between her anxieties and thoughts of Pipitpaw and a strange sickly heaviness that had been weighing over her as of late, Poppyshine’s thoughts were clouded. She didn’t notice the black-and-white tom situated across the river from her, nor did she notice just how far she was leaning forward to catch some fish. As she slashed into the water to grab a fish, she lost her balance and tumbled forward, crashing into the water. Her thoughts and senses were immediately swallowed up by the same fear that overtook her the first time she fell into the water and she splashed and struggled.
