Taking a Break [open, come chill with Fuzzy]

The stars never slept, and neither did he.

Fuzzypaw was finally remembering his herbs. He wasn’t sure if Basilbloom ever caught him under starlight counting stores and reciting facts.

The large fluffy tom felt weak. He had been dealing with the herbs, he was going to meet the other medicine cats soon, it was exciting and terrifying. He took two cats to the Moonstone just in the past few days, subsisting on entirely too much burnet instead of real food.

Basilbloom must have noticed he was tired and she told him to get some food in his belly. His very loud, grumbling and growling belly.

He would live on traveling herbs if he had to for ShadowClan.

There was a frog in the pile. His favorite! Fuzzypaw wore a goofy smile as he took his frog and sat down, ready to eat. The tom looked up, hearing some rustling.

The Clan was breathing, small movements on a newleaf day. Cats weaved in and out, their work in their paws and determination in their eyes.

He had realized that he had been a recluse since his apprenticeship. His brother Snakebite had already been made a warrior, and he wondered if he too would be given his full name soon.

Fuzzypaw pulled at his prey, chewing on the skin. What good would it be to serve ShadowClan as the medicine cat if he didn’t know any of his Clanmates? He had studied the Warrior Code like his life depended on it, trusted StarClan more than his own paws, but he was still a cat, and cats need friends.

Perhaps he could start today, before his herb patrol?

Swiftheart entered the camp soon after, a nice frog hanging from her jaws from a succesfull hunting trip. She dropped it off at the pile. Spotting Fuzzypaw she went over to him and gave him a friendly smile.

Basilbloom (Swifthearts older sister) : had been training Fuzzypaw alot and she was sure that he would make a grand medicine cat.

Swiftheart was very sociable and loved making friends. She was a very kind molly and very talkative.


Walking over to the apprentice she sat next to him. "Hello Fuzzypaw!" she purred warmly in greeting.

"How is the medicine cat training going?" she asked him talkativly.

"You keeping my older sister in line right?" she gave a playful joking wink at this purring softly.


"You know Basilbloom... the trouble maker she is" she giggled sarcastically. Basilbloom and swiftheart had always been close. She was glad that Fuzzypaw was training to be med cat, she always liked the idea of Basilbloom getting to teach.

The white furred warrior stretched her front paws outwards and yawned a little. She had been feeling alot slower lately and more tired from the litter that was due soon. She found she had to take a nap to get through the days as she wasn't sleeping well at night either.

She hadn't told anyone but she was really quite scared for it... what if something went wrong... like it did for her mother Murkystar? No... she would be fine... no sense in getting worked up over it.

"hmm... do you need any help gathering herbs or anything?" she asked Fuzzypaw "I would be happy to help in any way I can" she meowed friendily

“Mornin’, Swiftheart,” the tom replied, mouth full of frog.

“Training is good, Basilbloom knows everything, it’s a lot to learn. So many herbs, so many uses, it can be a lot.”

There were also the dreams and being an advisor to the leader, something that scared him a bit. How could the Clan rest on his shoulders after Basilbloom left her post?

“Basilbloom is the best.”

“How are you doing, Swiftheart?”

He figured she was due for kits but knew better than to say that without confirmation. That would be awkward… and if she wasn’t, she would be insulting his mentor’s sister. Very few ways to handle that well as a tom. His tail flicked up as he kept his mouth shut.

"Has no one told you it's rude to talk with your mouthful?" Nightstalker mewed, padding up to his sister, and Fuzzypaw. Nightstalker took a moment to break away from the group briefly to grab his own frog, briefly considering his tone and words. His new position as deputy gave him an authority that he wasn't used to, and that would affect how he was contrived in any conversation. When did he get so sensitive and insecure about his actions? Breathing through his nose heavily, he padded back over to the two and settled next to his sister as he crunched at the frog legs, silent, as he was more than happy to let the conversation move on without him.

Swiftheart grinned as he questioned her. She didnt mind him talking with his mouth full, unlike her brother she was a lot less formal, hense her fur almost always being a bit of a mess compared to his sleek coat that somehow always seemed to be perfectly groomed.

"Im doing quite alright! I cant wait for my litter" she purred thinking about it.

Hmm and just as she was thinking about him here he came to join them... her brother carrying a frog on over.

She gave a little giggle at his comment "Dont worry Fuzzypaw, apparently no one told my brother it's also rude to headbutt into conversations as well" she said fully just joking with him with friendly banter. She gave him a playful gentle little paw at his shoulder as he joined them.

"Well well well hows the deputy spot treating you?" she asked him a wide smile of happiness for him. She knew he just wanted to eat in peace but that had never stopped the overly talkative friendly molly before.


The sound of hesitative pawsetps sounded and her ears twitched upon hearing them. turning her head she spotted the apprentice... wow he looked different, thinner, tired, drained even.

She felt so sympetetic for him. He had fallen so ill after Ratrunners death. Her heart ached thinking of her now gone mate. She was having his kits and she felt like she had to do it right ... for him ... for them.

She very quickly picked up on Forestpaw's shuffling paws and nervous energy. She purred softly and nodded at his request to join them. She beckoned him with her tail tip to come sit next to them.

"we would love for you to join us" she purred. "Sit, Ill go fetch you some lunch.

She gave a playfull grin back to Fuzzypaw "Maybe Forestpaw can teach you how to eat with your mouth closed" she said jokingly but in a soft tone that was not at all mean.

She got to her paws and quickly brought back another frog for Forestpaw to munch on. Looking him over it looked like he could definitely use it too... She was glad he was finally feeling well enough to be back on his paws and out of the med den. She hoped he would soon make a full recovery

Fuzzypaw heard a tom's voice about not talking with his mouth full.

“Maybe you should ask my mom—”

The fluffy brown tom locked eyes with the speaker. It was Nightstalker. The deputy.

Oh, wonderful.

“Good to see you,” Fuzzypaw answered, his ears tucked in embarrassment. If he ran off to Duskflight, he didn’t know what he would do. The last thing Fuzzypaw needed was to put his dad in hot water.

He grinned as Swiftheart gave Nightstalker a talking to, which made him feel a little better. The medicine cat apprentice was almost finished with his meal when he noticed another cat.

“Good to see you, Forestpaw, how’re you?”

Fuzzypaw felt terribly for the tom. It was enough already that his mentor died in battle, but then to get so sick afterwards… Fuzzypaw shuddered at the thought of losing Basilbloom during his training. They were friends, practically, and he only imagined it was the same with Forestpaw and Ratrunner.

He stifled a snort when Swiftheart made her comment about Forestpaw teaching him manners. Between Snakebite and him, he was definitely the more mannered of the two. Snakebite was probably off somewhere chewing on sticks, a thought that made him grin.

Nightstalker harrumphed at his sister, before turning his gaze to Forestpaw, giving him a reassuring nod of his own. "It's alright I suppose, I get to finally boss you around so it can't be all that bad." The young deputy jibed, only ceasing in his meal to speak.
