Poppyshine
Brookkit had been in the medicine den for a while following an injury due to some…reckless activity. Poppyshine hoped that she’d learned her lesson about being careful, even just around camp. Still, she’d recovered just fine and was now ready to take on being an apprentice—and Poppyshine knew who to choose to help keep her in line and avoid more trouble.
Stepping up onto the Willow Branch, she announced, “Let all cats old enough to catch their own fish gather for a Clan meeting.”
❒ Rushing out of the nursery after a quick nap, Brookkit was more than eager to finally join her peers on the road to warriorhood. Her ceremony had gotten delayed quite a bit after some... regrettable choices she'd made that had landed her straight into the medicine cat's den. She'd been moping in there for a while but very recently, she'd gotten the go-ahead to move back into the nursery. Now, she was more than sure that this meeting was about her. The timing was right and her gut had a great feeling.
❒ Puffing out her chest, the she-kit strolled over to the gathering cats and sat down near the front of the group. She eyed the new deputy expectantly. It had to be her time to shine!

When Brookkit caught Poppyshine’s eye, it was clear that she understood it was her ceremony. That was good. Poppyshine hoped that she would put this same level of enthusiasm into being an apprentice herself. She nodded for Brookkit to step forward. “Brookkit, you have reached your age of six moons and are ready to be apprenticed. From this day on, until you receive your warrior name, you shall be known as Brookpaw. Your mentor shall be Ashflight, who I know will teach you the same important lessons of RiverClan as has been taught to him.” She looked to Ashflight, gesturing for him to join, before she stepped down from the branch to allow apprentice and mentor to meet. She knew that Ashflight would be able to wrangle in Brookpaw, and hoped that he could teach her to be as respectable a warrior as he was.
❒ Aha! So she was right! Brookkit stepped up the moment she was told to, eyes glittering brightly. Finally! She was more than ready to begin her apprenticeship. Now, she waited for the ceremony to continue.
❒ Brookpaw... Nothing had ever sounded sweeter than her newly-added suffix. The young molly grinned and stood up straight while she schooled her features as she listened intently to Poppyshine continue to speak. So, her mentor was a cat named "Ashflight" huh? Her mouth twitched up to display a small smirk. She wondered who—of the many, many cats that had assembled to watch the ceremony—that was. The newly-made apprentice turned around once the deputy had hopped off the branch to face her new mentor.
❒ The young she-cat nodded firmly at the tom, expression determined and expectant. "Nice to meet ya, Ashflight. I'm more than ready to start whenever, ya better believe it!" She puffed out her chest once again as she waited for the warrior to respond.

Ashflight's head perked up at the sound of his voice, knocking him out of his daydreaming. He had been in a bit of a daze the last few days since he and Perchstar had become mates. He quickly got serious though as Poppyshine assigned him Brookpaw as an apprentice, and the gray-furred tom nodded thankfully up at the young deputy. Padding up to greet the she-cat with a touch of their noses, the older tom couldn't help but purr at the adolescent's enthusiastic statements. "Nice to meet you too Brookpaw, I'm glad that you're excited! For now though, I recommend you go get settled in the apprentice's den. We'll start training bright and early tomorrow morning, how does that sound?" Gazing at the apprentice, Ashflight remembered with sorrow one of his other former charges; Otterdance. He had left before his time, sacrificing his life for the sake of RiverClan. Ashflight was proud but mourned his loss deeply. He could only hope that the newfound peace provided by Otterdance would allow Brookpaw to thrive.
