A Leaf in the Breeze [Leafpaw]

As the sky soon blushed a light violet, Duskflight rose, ducking his head as he made his way through the warriors' den. The Dark Forest cats that once have made him so alerted — now were an oddly normal sight. That didn't mean he tolerated them, however. Not much, at the very least. His paws led him to the apprentices' den, and after scanning for a short moment, found Leafpaw. "Let's go, Leafpaw. Our training is starting." His tail flicked, motioning for the apprentice to follow him.

They arrived shortly after at one of the most efficient grounds he found for hunting — The Pine Grove. Though his first experience with it wasn't so... pleasant, simply put, the tom gave it the benefit of the doubt. "Our first lesson will be hunting. This will be your founding base for most of your catches of prey in the future, so I expect you to pay close attention," The tom mewed. "Don't feel too pressured, though. It's only your first try, so follow what feels right."

At a rustle from the grass, his ears swiveled behind, nose keenly sniffing out the prey in hiding. "Here, I'll do an example first." At this, the tom crouched, his weight shifting to his lower body. Silence — then, he pounced, claws outstretched at the little shadow he saw underneath the grass. He felt his claws meeting the prey and soon finished it, giving a small thanks to StarClan... If they still were here, before bringing it back to Leafpaw. "Now you try." The tom buried the frog.

Leafpaw was awaken by Duskflight's voice. she scrambled obediently to her paws and followed.  as they neared the Pine Grove, Duskflight started the lesson. he killed off a frog and instructed for Leafpaw to try.

she scented the air and tasted what she recognized as a sparrow. she looked around frantically for it, and soon spotted the brown feathers. Leafpaw tried remembering how Duskflight had crouched, and dropped into a somewhat similar one. her legs trembled as she took a step forward. a leaf crunched loudly as she brushed past, sending the sparrow flying away. The tortoiseshell apprentice winced, looking at the ground as she waited for Duskflight to scold her.

suddenly, an unfamiliar scent wafted towards her. leafpaw's amber eyes went wide and she jumped to her paws. "FOX!" she screeched as the huge orange creature lunged towards her. Leafpaw bundled up her muscles and leaped at the huge, exposed white belly, pushing the fox away from Duskflight. her mind was blank as she stumbled away, trembling.

Leafpaw uses Jumping Strike, dealing -6(+1)dmg and -7SP

Duskflight's ears flattened, tail stiffly flicking at his apprentice's failed attempt. "It's alright, Leafpaw. We can try again ne—" He froze, his sentence cut off as he scented the predator as well. Pupils dilated, he yowled for Leafpaw to stay back, but it was too late. He'd faced this creature with Emberleap once before, and he was about to do so again. His apprentice's bravery would be praised, but the risks of her attack were too high. "Stay clear from its' hind legs and claws, Leafpaw! Aim for its' flanks or neck, I'll help hold it down!" He growled, claws outstretched as he tackled the creature away from the young cat.

The creature let out a deafening shriek as his claws clamped onto the fox's pelt, making sure to hold it down so that Leafpaw could attack. Well... that was it for their hunting session. That cry had probably already scared everything away. Duskflight let out a growl again, now more experienced, he was more sure about how to deal with larger predators. This was bound to be reported back, however.

Duskflight used Leap and Hold for 15 SP, dealing 10 (+1 from Night Finesse) damage. Fox is pinned for 1 turn!

The fox leaped in the air, only to feel claws push as it's soft belly and knock it back. before it could get to it's paws, another stronger cat leaped onto it, pinning to the ground with sharp claws. it thrashed under the cat but to no avail.

Leafpaw jumped as Duskflight pounced on the fox in a blur of black fur and a snarl. her eyes widened as she watched the experienced warrior tackle the beast, even pinning it down!

she came back to her senses as Duskflight instructed her to attack it's flank and neck. nodding, the tortoiseshell-and-white she-cat darted forward to clamp her jaws around it's neck, feeling the creature shriek in agony.

Good. Leafpaw was learning how to defend herself quickly. That was needed, for their situation right now wasn't exactly what he had in mind. The apprentice's jaws snapped around the beast's neck, landing an impressive blow on the creature. It shrieked — and he released his grip on the creature before it got enough strength to counterattack again. His claws sliced at the fox's muzzle, and he backed away, tail lashing. "It won't last much longer. It'll know to flee soon or be defeated," He huffed, "Don't let that distract you from fighting though, Leafpaw. Stay focused."

Duskflight used Front Paw Strike for 7 SP, dealing 10 (+1) damage!
Fox is now no longer pinned.

Leafpaw watched the fox thrash out of Duskflight's reach. yowling, the tortoiseshell she-cat leapt forward and aimed to slash at the fox's exposed belly. the fox turned on her at the last moment, it's red eyes glowing. with a lunge, it clawed at Leafpaw's belly, sending the apprentice stumbling away/

"Leafpaw! Are you alright?" The tom noticed the fox's evident strength opposing Leafpaw's, and it bowled her over, large claws slashing at her belly. He instantly sprinted over, his larger figure acting as protection for the apprentice. "If it hurts too much, rest, and go back to our camp. It's not too far from here. I'll deal with the beast myself." He growled, facing the creature. Duskflight would attempt to repeat her move again, this time sudden — and quick. The tom would slip himself underneath the beast, attempting to slash at its soft underbelly. His claws were able to breach the fox's skin, and he quickly leaped back, a huff escaping from his maw. The fox howled in pain, alerted by his sudden attack. It was getting exhausted now, and he knew it wouldn't be able to keep it up much longer.

Duskflight used Belly Rake for 25 SP. It was a Success!

the fox hissed in agony as claw after claw fell on it. shaking its head, it turned and limped away, looking over its shoulder one last time to glare at the cats.

Leafpaw caught her breath as she watched Duskflight bowl the fox over and send the beast running for its life. "That was so cool!" she gasped, staggering to her paws. it proved to be a mistake, as at once pain shot through her small body and her legs buckled.
