Snakekit's Apprentice Ceremony

Night had fallen, another starless night. Frostgaze could not help but wonder if their ancestors would truly return to them, though that was a question to ponder later. There was another kit to apprentice, Snakekit. It was good to see the clan still growing, despite the tragedy that had befallen the forest. As the white tom leaped up onto the Jaggedrock, he put all other thoughts from his mind. "All cats old enough to silently stalk in the shadows, gather in the shadow of Jaggedrock for a clan meeting!"

Snowfoot limped into camp after a solo hunting mission. A single mouse dangled from her jaws, the only thing she’d caught all night. Her leg hadn’t made it easy, either. She smiled when she saw Frostgaze atop the Jaggedrock, uttering the familiar words. Snowfoot deposited her meager catch in the freshkill pile and sat down near the center of camp.

Snakekit, true to his name, nearly slithered across the ground. He kept his legs bent and tucked underneath him, belly nearly scraping the earth, and his tail streaming out behind him. The tom was an odd little creature. Enjoyment in his world came from entertainment of his own creation. Shuffling about in this weird manner made him less imposing, despite being a tall and slender kit. Some cat had hinted he would be an apprentice soon. The young tom couldn't have cared either way but it meant there would be more ways to keep his paws busy and the discovery of new means of self-fulfillment. Instead of sitting for the ceremony, he laid down, stretching out, and half-waiting for Frostgaze to continue.

Frostgaze could only watch as Snakekit... slithered over to the meeting, splaying out on the ground. This confused the tom greatly, but he went on despite this. "Shadowclan! I have gathered you here to witness the naming of a new apprentice. Snakekit, step forward." The deputy allowed Snakekit to approach, slithering or not, before he continued. "Snakekit, you have reached the age of six moons and are ready to become an apprentice. From this day forward, until you earn your warrior name, you will be known as Snakepaw. Rookfire will be your mentor, I trust that he will pass on his newfound skills and wisdom to you." Nimbly, Frostgaze hopped off the Jaggedrock, allowing mentor to meet apprentice. He almost felt sorry for Rookfire, Snakepaw seemed the sort to give him trouble. Despite this, he believed in Rookfire's ability, despite him being fairly new to warrior-ship.

At the sound of Frostgaze's voice, Grasspaw lifted her head. How curious, another clan meeting. Could this be her warrior ceremony already? Quite possible, she was sure, with the rapidity of which she learned everything Sootwhisker had to teach her. Hmm, still, Frostgaze wasn't looking at her, even though she was right out in the open - quite rude, really - so perhaps she was wrong. Either way, Grasspaw sat and waited, listening until... ah, there it was.

Snakekit, the little menace, was becoming an apprentice today. Good, maybe he could bite something like prey instead of her leg. Grasspaw snorted, squaring her shoulders a bit... she'd ask Sootwhisker if maybe they could go out with Rookfire and Snakepaw... to spar. She'd gotten in trouble for biting him back when he was still a kit by technicality, but surely she'd be allowed to bite him now.

Hm? Snakekit? So that was it, he was an apprentice then. Eyes darting around, he first found Grasspaw with a smirk. She was still an apprentice too so it meant they would be sharing a den. Next, he looked around to find Rookfire. In a similar manner to before, he scuttled across the camp and found his mentor, "Can we go to Carrionplace now? I'd like to see it."

"Snakepaw! Snakepaw!" Deerleap cheered her brother's name. she gave him a friendly flick of the tail, though other than that she made no sign that she acknowledged him.
